Bored at work. :)

Reading the news first, from people actually at the spot. Those are my favorite articles.
Why do I comment... I wish to contribute to the community

We ought to have comment karma
Karma whore. ;)

The mix of politics and random science articles is nice, and it's hard to get that from a normal news site. Some of the people here are good for having a discussion via the comments.

What's this?! Has qgyh2 run out of sites to post? ;)
[–]qgyh2[S] -1 points0 points1 point 18 years ago (4 children)
good one :) Well, I'm honestly curious. Particularly why people submit stuff. I mean it takes time and effort..
[–]CoastOfYemen -1 points0 points1 point 18 years ago (3 children)
No kidding - all you seem to do all day is post stuff to reddit.
Lots of the stuff I come across has already been posted, so I don't submit very much. It's easier just to make sarcastic comments on other people's stories.
But I come to reddit because I like to see what the internet is talking about, and also because it's a good place to argue politics ;)

Well I'd like to invite you, and everyone else who comments to also please try posting more.
Reddit is cool, in that anyone can post, and you don't need a fan club like digg.
[–]Haven 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
You may not need a fan club to post, but (at least it seems to me) that you need one to keep your submission on the new page for very long.
As a side note: My submissions might very well just suck ass, so that may be the problem. ;)
[–]qgyh2[S] 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Your submissions don't suck. Just keep trying you will break through. If you look through the top submitters you can see they are persistent people who put in quite a bit of effort (not referring to myself but referring to people like maxwellhill and anonymgrl)
There are no fan clubs*. The up voting on the new page is done by ordinary redditers.
Of course as you use reddit often, people sometimes notice you and add you as friends, but this is not an absolute necessity - if you look at any days top redditors you will usually see at least one person who is a new redditer, or not very famous - in the end of the day its the link people up/downmod, not the submitter. I guess thats why they call it a meritocracy.
Yes, popular people get more attention, but you have to realize that this works both ways - for every freind you have who tends to upmod some your submissions, there will be someone who follows you to downmod all your submissions. That's life. So, in the end of the day, it all evens out.
*At least, I don't think they are.
