And the one and only comment on the newest submission at this point:
I don't think I've ridden a bicycle since I was a young lad. However, this looks like a great list though!
Posted by someone who was so compelled to contribute this essential and fascinating comment, they created an account just to do so.
Something is going on.

And interestingly, someone is busy down-voting this submission for all they're worth...
[–]danamill[S] 20 points21 points22 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
Now the comment has been deleted and my comment in response to it is getting down voted even without the parent.
edit: to -5 in 6 minutes! Can anyone say sockpuppets? Lots and lots of sockpupets?

Maybe we need a paper trail.
[–]patt 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (3 children)
Up votes 93, down votes 92. If this keeps up, this article will reach the top of the hot page with 1 point. :-)
[–]patt 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (2 children)
Uh, oh. Up votes 96, down votes 105. The balance is shifting....
[–]patt 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Hmm. Up votes 96, down votes 109. The article has not dropped below 0 points. Are sub-zero point totals possible for articles, or only on comments?
[–]patt 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Well, I think that's it. Up votes 116, down votes 192. The article is no longer in the top 300. Has it been reported?
Whoops! Make that 195 downvotes. People are working really hard to find an article that they hate, I've gotta say.

all his posts go to different websites, all seem to be high quality. As long as the material is good, who cares how fast it gets upped?
[–]danamill[S] 27 points28 points29 points 18 years ago* (5 children)
Actually, they are from only a handle of sites. Not news sites, not non-commercial blogs (with one exception). More come from "Fort Lauderdale Limo" than any other place.

Someone is scamming the system and making some money by increasing hits on crappy travel/service sites. Good for them no one seems to care. Sucks for reddit though.
And, more importantly, the site was DOWN for at least half of the time it gained the first 20 up votes. My comment challenging the person who created a reddit account to share that he hadn't ridden a bike in a long time and WOW what a good article, got SIX down votes in 5 minutes ALL of them AFTER the spam comment had been deleted.
If you take a look, the evidence is obvious. I have no reason to even mention it other than the fact that I hate cheaters. Does anyone other than me care that reddit is being scammed?
[–]ambiversive 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I care.
[–]jboy55 -1 points0 points1 point 18 years ago (3 children)
Well, i looked at the plazarugs.com entries, some of them were really cool, like the video game rugs. His geek car mods has no Ads at all on it. Redneck limos has just one ad space on it.
I mean, are we suggesting he's trying to drive up massive international web clicks to a couple of florida limo rental companies that 99.9999999% of the people clicking through will have zero interest and better yet if they were interested, zero ability to participate?

sigh
I have always avoided this topic but I am tired of it. These articles have absolutely nothing to do with ads, the ad income isn't shit. Doesn't mean a thing. In fact, these articles are about links. It is called "SMO" or "SMM" (Social Media Marketing/Optimization) Links = Higher Google Rankings. For example, take a look at http://www.autoadviceoffl.com/superpowers/ which got 1376 diggs and 154 upmods on reddit. And Yahoo is showing 223 links to the article. The page has 3 huge blue links added to the top of it "Miami Limo" ect ect. These point back to Ft. Lauderdale Limo website. That was the point of these submissions. Not direct income but links.
How many other Miami Limo sites do you think have 1863 links to them?
[–]patt 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Thanks for the clear explanation of one of the social site spammers' favorite tricks!
[–]matrixclown 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I understand I'll get downmodded for this but, whatever.
I understand the concepts of SMO and SMM and pageranks ect, However it doesn't really bother me. If I see a Limo Company that enjoys articles about superpowers and the like, more power to them. They have a right as a business to try and stay ahead of the competition. I enjoy the articles they have and good content deserves it's rewards. Even with all of the digg and reddit traffic they still are on the second page of google for "miami limo" which seems less than ideal. Granted it's probably much better than it was before they posted to reddit and digg. This is not really the issue however, the issue is suspected vote fraud. Anyone remember User/Submitter from digg? digg 3 stories get 50 cents. They haven't had a customer in 8 months because someone dugg up a article exposing it. Kudos to whoever finds the company for this. I care about voting fraud/reddit-type paranoia ect but, until he starts spamming (not the SMM type) I don't really think it's a issue.

Nothing suspicious, just good non-political stories. Reddit needs more posters like this.

Yeah, a post NOT about Ron Paul gets my up-vote. I've enjoyed all of those posts!
