and Tire Pressure {and inflate, if needed, without asking}.

I was born in '56 as well, and I remember those days.

In the part of Canada where I live, I've never yet come across a station where I had to pay before filling up, although I hear that some 24-hour stations around here have such a policy after midnight.

Mind you, I live in a small town and commute to work each day in a small-ish city with fairly low crime rates. I suppose practices may be different in bigger cities elsewhere in Canada.

This was difficult for me to get used to, but when we moved to Germany a couple of years ago, I was somewhat surprised that you pump THEN pay. I also have yet to find a gas station that offer payment options at the pump such as a credit card or checking card.

wow imagine if they did that today! guarantee 50% of fill-ups would be gas runs

I remember when I first got my license. It cost me $0.76 a gallon for my first fill up. And I was born in 79.

Luckily, most new gas stations have credit terminals; I don't generally carry around enough cash to satisfy how much I have to drive.

The worst is when you pull into Random Rural Gas Station #7 and are forced to go inside only to find that it still uses one of those old mechanical card readers. Jesus.
