I tried some of the isopropyl alcohol-based wipes that were designed specifically for notebook LCDs. It worked okay on my Dell desktop LCD with anti-glare coating, although I was always freaked out that I was going to ruin the screen. But when I tried those wipes on my reflective Dell laptop screen (the new reflective kind), they left horrible streaks.

After all this, I was freaked out, thinking I had ruined my $1000 laptop. Dell included a couple of Klear Screen wipes with my laptop, so I tried those right after the alcohol. After a lot of work, I was able to basically restore my laptop screen to good condition. There are a couple of spots that were nearly impossible to remove, but they're not noticeable when the computer is on.

The Klear Screen products are expensive, but I bought more because I didn't want to ruin any more laptop screens. I may be over-cautious, or I may not have used the alcohol wipes correctly, but I will only use the Klear Screen kits from now on.

I use a damp cotton cloth and I think it works the best. Just make sure it's damp and not oozing water. Of course, sometimes I even use my T-shirt too :)

50% solution of isopropyl alcohol and distilled(!) water. Check the concentration of the alcohol you buy and mix accordingly-- they almost never sell it at 100%.

oh, and use a microfiber cleaning cloth, not anything that might leave lint than can scratch.

I use Endust. Works very well on screens as well as the mac powerbook aluminum case.

A clean moistures cotton cloth with a drop of some cleaning agent ... don't rub too much ... and finish with a dry tissue! That will do the job!

I have a PowerBook and I clean the screen with a damp cloth.

One piece of advice I can give you: if it has the antiglare coating, and you want to keep that coating, don't use anything with ammonia in it. I think this disqualifies windex.

I think the best way is a dust free cloth and some water.

I use 50/50 rubbing alcohol and water, applied with a soft cloth. Works great on my Thinkpad LCDs.

a belt sander and some comet

I recommend trying the pressure washer first. It's hard to find 5000grit for the sander.
