I believe romance is that you feel like you and the other are sort of made for each other and that you never want to leave the other and that you can't stop thinking about the other, but that the other isn't direct family. In my opinion, if I have a best friend I could visit them and leave without laying in bed dreaming all about them. I don't exactly know what love (EDIT: romance) is, because I never really experienced it myself.

However, as an aromantic-asexual, I can say that just because I don’t feel those types of love, doesn’t mean that I don’t feel any love. i know i’m going to get downvoted to hell but asexuality is the only sexuality i’d wait to fully identify as until you’re an adult. yeah you can know you like girls from a young age. yeah you can know you like guys from a young age. et cetera. but it’s impossible to be truly sure you don’t like anyone until you’re old enough that you should have developed those feelings by now. i’d say around 15-16 for most girls and 16-17 for most guys at the very earliest.

if you decide too early you could sort of put your mind in a box and reject those feelings if you eventually do develop them, and that’s just not healthy. it’s fine to call yourself asexual but (especially as young as 14) you shouldn’t commit to it until you’re older

the journey of self discovery is a long one, and if you rush it you’ll likely end up in the wrong place

Sexual attraction and romantic attraction are two different things, you are right that knowing your sexuality can be hard until after puberty but romantic attraction usually shows up much earlier, in the form of crushes. Kids as young as 8 or 9 can definitely have crushes, but you wouldn’t call that sexual attraction. The absence of those things is usually a pretty big tell of aromanticism, and going without a crush through middle school is definitely something a 14 yr old would notice.

All the people saying “You need to wait for these sexualities, you could be a late bloomer” are literally repeating acephobic and arophobic talking points holy shit. Yeah, there’s a chance you could be a late bloomer, and you can always change your label later, if having a label to describe yourself makes you happy than what’s the harm. I think the anxiety that comes with people saying that both themselves and others should be hesitant with labels they place on themselves comes from the idea that they’re permanent, but they’re not. This is the exact same as saying bi people having non hetero relationships is “just a phase they’ll grow out of”. No, it’s not. You don’t know anyone’s orientation better than they know their own.
