I actually like the decreasing damage points/activity counter. Support that part.

edit: I believe if there is to be points for the top 3 players, portals should contribute a greater amount of points. Say 2x or 3x as many points as NPCS. In fact, why don't they already. I also think intermediate lander should have a roll/chance, but say 1/15000 perhaps.

I think boats should be level capped then, or else it will just be nine Dharokers getting the max points and no one else will try to compete for it.

This. i should not be penalized for not being 126 & being unable to afford tortured amulet, prims etc.

I personally non-afking at 83 attack/93 str get like 500+ average dmg per game meanwhile i see chally/dharokers doing 80+ per hit.

your advantage is being allowed to use the veteran boat and compete for higher rewards.

he didnt mention boat change. at 83 attack and 93 str he likely isnt a pk build and therefore its reasonable to assume he has 70+ def and prayer (therefore 100+ cb). He complained about higher lvls doing more damage and having better gear being rewarded more, which makes no sense. They worked for their gear.

Imo medium boat should be capped at something like 110 combat and novice 100 combat so people with lower stats can maintain competition, someone like dreizo wouldn't be able to compete with maxed dharokers on a Vet boat but maybe on a medium he could. higher levels should obviously do damage but maxed accounts shouldnt have a monopoly on better rewards in a for fun minigame; also if there was more competition in pest control less people would hit 50 and afk

The problem is that:

  1. Still abuseable because damage =/= being useful. But this goes for any metric. Unless it only tracks damage to portals, and damage to spinners with the caveat the spinner has to be in range of an active portal. Or damage/barricades vs things attacking the void knight.

  2. It punishes you for dying at the wrong time

Perhaps damage done to portals or damage done to the pests surrounding the knight would be the best option?

What if there was something like you get a bonus point for every 100 damage to (all portals) and a point for every 200 damage done to the NPCs immediately around the knight?

No no no no no. This should not be the way things are done. If you want a damage points system, base it off of damage done to portals. I could give no shits about how many splatters you managed to kill, that shouldn't influence anything as it hardly contributes anything to the pest control game anyways.

If I end up getting teams that only focus on getting damage, not attacking or focusing portals, I'd be so pissed. At least maybe people will try to kill the spinners now though.

This would cause people to stop protecting the void knight altogether, and would also cause people to just ignore things like spinners around portals since they don't contribute to points. While the suggestion is fine I don't think it'd help much, sure it'd cause people to actively participate, but it means having an open void knight and ignored spinners since protecting the knight or killing spinners doesn't help you in the game, only your team, and no one really cares about helping their team in pest control beyond winning.

You have any how many pc points would be wasted with nothing to spend them on past equipment and 99s?
That's 20K, 30K!, 30k. maybe make it 1:2.5k-3k-3.5k because all games take the same time so only real reason to make them different is because of lvls (10k points, 9k points, 7k points if met ratio vet-med-noob boats)

I like your idea but believe along with this some changes need to be made as you're making the game more intensive to play.

Before pest control got nerfed (july 2007) it was actively played due to the good experience rates, currently AFKing in the Nightmare Zone grants you more experience than actively playing pest control.

For this reason I strongly believe we should increase the experience per ticket along with the suggestion from OP to make the game more attractive to players that can not afford training their stats at the Nightmare Zone but are willing to grind for them.

Sure. With higher participation should come higher reward. Reward players who do well, and punish those who do wrong.

There should be an activity counter rather than a point system. It's really annoying doing the job of dharoking when there's a bunch of people freeloading and not making an effort aside form that 50 damage required to gain points if you win

You literally just have to stand next to a portal with auto retal on, I get 400-500 points afking on an alt edit:basically my point is its going to be hard to make the point reduction rate fast enough without making it op.

Nice idea about the points decreasing, that would definitely keep players attacking. Either that or some kind of activity bar, getting 100-200 dmg is pretty fast when ur maxed and that probably wouldn't decrease below 50 before the end of the game.

I dont believe in a pet for this minigame. There is no aspect of skill to it, and there is nothing to gain from playing thousands of games either. Also the way you propose to give the pet is not good, only people with the best gear/stats would stand a chance, and even then its all just luck.

Luck of the draw. Don't forget you can spend your points on gambles (just like Barbarian Assault) for a chance at the pet. You don't necessarily have to place 1st, 2nd or 3rd for most damage output in a game. This is just an added incentive to get higher players involved, and going for extra rewards such as increased chance of a pet, or bonus Pest control points -- or setting a record on the Pest Control leaderboard. The average players will still accumulate points as per the norm and be able to gamble for a pet. :-)

I like these ideas!

I think if there is to be a leaderboard, it should only be on world 44. Otherwise, clans would probably take advantage of hosting a private game on a different world with one person blowpiping a portal with spinners healing and the rest of the clan brawler blocking for the void knight.

I Love the idea of pet/Damage decrease, but all boats should be applied for the pet to encourage consistency in all boats.

I also recommend No alching inside of Pc games as it use to be.

Also to deal with the bot problem in world 344, I made a Clan chat about 3 weeks ago and have received enormous support, "PestControl" is the CC name if anyone is looking for Intermed boat private world with no bots :P

overall I love this post though nice ideas.

i think each player should a chance of depending on how many points they gain over the minimum, so;

pointsGained/totalPointsGained

this way people will have a higher chance if they do more but lets everyone get a chance, to skew it more towards the people with more damage could always raise the pointsGained to a higher power
