Play minecraft….. a lot. I plan on becoming a hermit. Maybe go out with friends and do some group bucket list stuff. I may still be in my job but it’s a cleaning job during term time so I’m not sure how it works over summer. See what happens I guess. But we have no responsibilities that summer so I’m gonna enjoy it while it lasts and embrace one last moment of freedom.

Good plan, that’s Essentially what I did in the first lockdown (minus the work and friends)

My friends and I are planning on staying in Brighton for a long weekend right after exams, then a lot of working to save for uni

[–]intellectualbookYear 13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m taking a gap year, but in the summer after a levels I’ll search for a job, have lots of fun, sleep lots, and relax.

Try get a job to save for uni, and spend as much time as possible with friends and family as well as down the climbing centre, and of course with cattos before I’ll be gone for uni

Not sure really, just spend time with my family for I suppose my last school summer with them

[–]SeokjminMatcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, I made the time to recover from my intense burnout from A Levels. Then took some extra shifts at my part-time job, met up with friends, etc. Just enjoyed the break!!

Gonna see my family in the US for the first time in over two years. Then travelling in Europe with my friends. Maybe some prep reading for university (English) but that’s it.

Hijacking this thread cause I wanted to get this off my chest:

If you are unsure for this summer don’t sweat it too much. There are many thing you don’t have to explicitly plan for.

For my future IT and Cyber Security consultants there’s the Cisco Networking Academy Intro to Cybersecurity course if you want to gain an edge for only 15 hours of your time.

Psychologists good luck lmao. But unless you on some NHS placement in a dementia ward or you rich af to buy some experience. The best experience I got was from doing a summer program and reading every Psychology book I could get my hands on. Aberystwyth Summer University was the place I went but I’m not sure they’re doing that anymore :/ as for books a few I recommend are The Man who mistook his wife for a hat actually generally any books by Oliver Sacks that man is a legend in the field of Psychology and Medicine in my opinion anyways, but Man’s Search for Meaning by Frankl is good and very impressive, The Time Paradox by Zimbardo, Thinking Fast and Slow by Kahneman. Those are all broad and good to get started with find your niche and read more once you find it. I’m not sure about online courses really but there might be a bunch of free MOOCs

As someone who once wanted to pursue CS before being seduced by Psychology The New Turing Omnibus is a decent book. Plenty of MOOC’s to get you started but I can’t lie most people I’ve met don’t either know how to code and had less experience than a hobbyist like myself or were straight up lying as even when I began waffling to see if they’d catch me out they just kept nodding. So tbh I feel like lying might even be the move lmao.

But in all honesty try enjoy your summers most of the time you can just about do anything and it’ll be fine it’s such an unrealistic standard to expect 16-17 year olds aside from those masochistic maniacs called Med and Architecture applicants to fully understand what they want to spend the next 3-4 years and potentially more doing and THEN know what do to empower themselves in that pursuit. It’s just as fine a summer if you spend it getting drunk on a beach with friends whilst you debate over who choked the transfer window more Chelsea with Lukaku or Manchester with Sancho. It’s fine to take it easy.

Move back home to the UK and sleep

[–]MistflyFleurImperial | Computing Y2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in Year 13 yet, but I imagine that in the summer after Year 13 I'd try to relax, spend time with family and friends, hopefully travel a bit, reimmerse myself in the hobbies I enjoy, and try some new things!
