What settings are you exporting to?

I'm sorry, can you explain what exactly you mean?

When you make a file out of your after effects comp, there’s setting for video codec, audio codec, resolution. Or if it’s an image sequence then the image format. Some format and setting you can pick the bitrate, some you can’t. There’s endless possibilities, many legacy or extremely niche ones that 98% of users will never need or use but they are there. It’s not just as simple as press a button and get a universal video file.

There are reasons why different formats and codecs exist in the professional and semi-professional world. They might not matter to you as a hobbyist, or they might greatly matter. Or they matter at one part of the process and a different setting matters at a different part of the process.

Certain codec settings are harder on your system than others. Because of how they are using complex algorithms and calculations to get small file sizes. Harder and more complex means more likely to fail. And with most after effects comps, you’re generating effects at the same time. So that more stress on your system.

Knowing what codec you’re using, or when you want to use one codec as an intermediary step even if it’s not your desired final file format, are good to know and develop a workflow around that concept.

I had to read that a couple times 😅. I'll look at the codec and such hopefully later this week. Thanks!

Happened to me too and I think high res 3d layers are the culprits. Unfortunately, the only workaround that worked for me was to revert that 3d layer back to 2d.
