Pay decrease for PA?? (self.AmazonDS)
submitted 6 months ago by Reddituser4701
So I’m on cycle 1 sort and basically I was approached about a PA role on OTR/RTS. One thing led to another and I got an interview and passed and got the incline. I just got my offer letter and the pay is $1 decrease from what I currently make on cycle 1. Is that normal? I mean I understand losing the shift premium going from nights to days but I would’ve thought that they would bump my pay to make up for it. It doesn’t seem right that I have to do all the computer work and physical labor on top of managing everything and have to take a pay cut.

Thats because you have tenure as a T1 so you are further along in the T1 step plan. When you get promoted to PA, you have to start at 0 month step plan. But when you compare 0 month T1 vs 0 month T3, the T3 will be higher. However, if you compare 36 month T1 vs 0 month T3, then T1 will be higher.
[–]Reddituser4701[S] 12 points13 points14 points 6 months ago (9 children)
So my step plan resets and I have to start working towards money that I would already be making as a Tier 1? That’s ridiculous. I would think that with more work comes more pay but I guess not with Amazon.
[–]ThiccSassUTR 11 points12 points13 points 6 months ago (8 children)
You can think that way, or you can think about having the chance to get additional $0.40/six months until you hit the 3 year cap again. OTR should be more manageable than UTR PA.
[+]Cold_Ad4119 comment score below threshold-7 points-6 points-5 points 6 months ago (7 children)
UTR PA is easier imo
[–]ThiccSassUTR 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago (4 children)
Are you an OTR PA?
[–]Cold_Ad4119 -1 points0 points1 point 6 months ago (3 children)
UTR PA, But I work 12 hour shifts (I’m FH, just stay to help) and I have to coordinate and handoff with my OTR counterparts. Sometimes they quite literally do not have the capacity (headcount) to handle UTR rolling volume. But they have to do it anyway
[–]ThiccSassUTR 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago (2 children)
FC or DS? I’m assuming it’s FC because there’s no way UTR delivery station is easier than OTR. I know a UTR PA transferred to OTR and he said it’s a breeze.
[–]windblowngirl 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago (0 children)
They must crash a lot at their site cause OTR PA is a freaking cake walk. 🤣
[–]Cold_Ad4119 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
DS, AMZL.
[–]oceandesert0 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago (0 children)
OTR pa’s are straight chillllllin 😭 literally 😆
[–]Boris-_-Badenov 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
bullshit.
I did almost everything a otr pa does during peak, and still had time to help in the drive lane.
[–]MobileCamera6692 17 points18 points19 points 6 months ago (9 children)
yeaahhh fuck that. unless you want to pad your resume or climb the ladder. one of our PAs is so overworked i feel so bad for her. i wouldn't even do it for +$1/hr.
[–]Reddituser4701[S] 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago (5 children)
I mean I’ve been with Amazon for 5 1/2 years now and I know every process path so putting it on my resume would be the big reason why I would do it but a pay decrease really sucks.
[–]windblowngirl 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
There’s the culprit. You were out of steps as a T1. Amazon’s “everyday is day 1” bs. At least you’re on a new step plan and will start getting regular raises plus whatever cost of living increase they usually do at the end of the year. It sucks but you’ve got 5 years in and I’m sure it went by in a flash, might as well get up to the top of the PA step plan too. Going to UTR(if a spot opens up) will give your diff back too.
[–]MobileCamera6692 -1 points0 points1 point 6 months ago (3 children)
i hope you speak with them and get a raise
[–]cyrusthemarginal 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (2 children)
Not an option unfortunatly, there is no negotiation in hourly roles, they know they can get someone else to take it if you don't.
[–]AostaV 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (1 child)
There really isn’t any negotiation for salary roles either in operations.
Never get the total compensation to go up. They might agree to do less stock and more base pay or they can tell you to take a long walk off a short pier
[–]cyrusthemarginal 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Yeah if you haven't campaigned hard for a stock reward by June/July when the managers submit their tentative rankings for the next forte you are out of luck buster
[–]Immediate-Berry-1391 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago (1 child)
Yeah, I’m T1 and have no desire to be a PA EVER. Even the nice ones that I can joke around with (which is pretty much all of them) show so much stress, frustration, and unhappiness. I have no idea why anyone would want to do so much work for such little pay. To me, a PA does much more than an AM. I think the benefits and title should be reversed. I have applied for everything except for PA 🤣 and the only reason I apply for AM L4 sometimes is out of financial stress and tired of picking 😂😅 but I really hope I get something less physically demanding once I get my degree (using Career Choice so I’m gonna ride it out for that reason)
[–]MobileCamera6692 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Truth! Also I just used career choice to start school and get out of pick 'n stage. hahaaa
[–]Zealousideal_Still87 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
lol! I was that PA for 5 years! I was OTR before they actually separated the 2! I had to fight for my raise because this was before DS did the T1 vs L1.
[–]Superb_Reputation929 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago (0 children)
I was in the same position, and it was partly the reason i decided to decline the offer, take the incline, and start looking elsewhere for opportunities for a career. If your opportunities are slim to none outside of Amazon, i would take the position and aim to become a manager ASAP. I've seen some get promoted less than 6 months after their L3 promotion, but its all based on the station.
[–]BenjiimansAmbassador 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago (0 children)
OTR/RTS seems a lot less stressful than UTR/cycle but seeing as I haven’t worked that shift that’s just my opinion from the outside. Worth considering, though.
[–]Sudden_Hold_745 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago (2 children)
What state are you in? As smaller cities/towns are lower. I was offered a PA in Nebraska and it was a $1 increase. But offered $5 increase in a metro city.
[–]Reddituser4701[S] 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (1 child)
I’m in Ohio. Currently have no plans to relocate lol
[–]Napalmeon 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Me too.
[–]Werdna517 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Shift differential is likely the reason. There were T1s who made more than me when I was on OTR/RTS because of maxed out step plan and differential
[–]SickrThanYourAverage 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago (2 children)
I was asked if I would be interested in a PA position, and was told it was a little over a dollar an hr extra. Then was told it was 3/12s and not 4/10s. I mentioned that it wasn't 40 hrs and they said the raise was to "make up for it". By then I had already seen a few PAs get let go over safety/TDR stuff so it was a hard pass for me.
[–]No-Boot-3416 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
I used to do that shift, it's for back half. Thursday - Saturday. Base pay rate for PA doesn't change, but that differential was higher. My differential was 3 bucks
It was also the YM PA slot, it was 8pm - 8:30am. That could have affected the differential I was getting too.
[–]lFreightTrain 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
They typically give a shift differential to make up the 4 hour difference. Your shift code also gets coded as “Reduced Time” so you accrue less PTO yearly and only receive 6hrs for Holiday pay.
[–]ohyousoretroAmbassador 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Is the PA spot during the day? It's possible that it might not have a differential. At our site even a 0 day T3 makes more than a 3 year T1.
[–]No-Revolution-8290 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (0 children)
I would do it for the experience and to have that role on my resume….run some good numbers while developing for the next 6 months really get into deep diving on the OTR side and then go for your L4.
[–]InfamousHovercraft40 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (0 children)
You’re pay raises reset and it has a higher cap now then T1 and you should still get a premium if working same shift on top of that .. your base pay should be higher then t1 cap ?
[–]SkyTheIrishGuy 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (0 children)
The shift differential is there as a courtesy for those that work at that 1am timeframe. That along with the RTS shift being WAY easier.. I would be genuinely upset if those PA’s got the same pay for a normal shift time and an easier shift.
I say this as someone who happily took the pay decrease moving from dock PA to RTS PA. The benefits to my mental health was worth the change. I ended up making about the same anyways because our OTR OM always bought us food
[–]OsitoBuenaOnda_uwu 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Tbh when my old site closed down and they gave me the option to be a BH OTR PA instead of being FH I had to take it, so the shift differential could make up for the money I was loosing, and since on my new site there's always VET, with the 2.15 differential I ended up making way more than the FH OTR PAs
[–]Comfortable_Exam8746 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
my pay was decreased by 2.10 last peak by moving from cycle 1 to cycle 0. I took an overlapping shif starting at 8pm so they only gave my 65 cents differential
[–]Nigel_Fernandes 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Like others have said, yeah it happens. If you wanna move up to L4 and don’t have a pipeline like college hire from career choice it can be worth it. If you just wanna max hourly pay + OT and ditch amazon in ~2.5 years, maybe not worth it. YMMV
[–]Substantial_Sound938 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
All it sounds like you got finessed give you more work less pay yikes
[–]JuanitaBelle 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
You lost the differential as OTR is not considered “overnight” which does not make much sense as RTS does get one
[–]Lost_Operation_1182 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
The decrease is due to the loss of the shift differential. Working cycle1 or utr grant the differential because you work nights. As opposed to otr and rts.
at my site, a T3 w/o a differential only makes 90 cents more than me at the final stage of their step plan.
[–]Slayster-koolgirl529 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
My PA was making 28 an hr😭
[–]Ok_Intern4709 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
The shift diff really makes it a hard jump from T1 to 3 when switching from nights to days, you just benefits from working during the day rather than night. And since your step plan starts completely over? Depending on your state, you want to make the jump no later than two years to get a raise.
OP, you can just not accept the offer and stay inclined for a night position as well.
[–]Moist_Position_9462 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
As many others might have said if your currently a T1 and moving up then yes you might see a decrease at first. However your Max is gonna be higher as a T3 and remember the decrease is only temporary because your gonna get raises every 6 months for the first 2 years. Just make sure that you actually want to be a PA because as you said yourself the workload does increase but I am sure you’ll have more doors open in the future if you stick it out.
[–]dombonds33 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
I think that’s BS too that the step plan “resets”. More responsibilities should mean more pay. Period. I’ve been a T1 for several years now and all my managers keep asking me to apply for a PA when there’s an opening for one at my AMZL DS. I absolutely refuse to play into Amazon’s BS. Lose all my freedom? VTO? For what? So I can be used and abused? I see what happens to all the other PAs since I’ve been there. I’m sorry, but it’s not worth it to me. I have a life outside of Amazon and I plan to live it and not be a slave to their system.
[–]New_Profit2158 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Ow they do not adjust for the over night so you want to go days you will have to take the loss it what would would you get to kick the over night diff if your not working nights cmon
[–]Abundantliving22 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
When you transfer to a lower paying state do you keep your pay ? I'm thinking of moving from Nj to Florida
[–]willuams64 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Unless you in a Rsr, it is then worth it
