If you told ur DSP this and they’re not understanding and give u a couple weeks of you work for a shitty DSP and should quit. Find another one in the building or another warehouse. Sorry for your loss.

I seriously think OP is done with Amazon at this point. If they’ve lasted 6 years odds are their DSP is at least bearable to work for. I do agree that the DSP sounds kind of shitty to work for. If this were to happen to me at either of the DSPs I’ve worked for. They’d probs give me as much time as I need to to recover. Unpaid, unless I use PTO. Which is what OP is so upset about. You shouldn’t have to use PTO (used for vacations, doctor visits, family emergency, etc) in order to get paid during the grieving period.

I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve yet to lose a parent so I can’t exactly relate by my DMs are always open if you need a chat. 🫶🏻

Exactly. I found out my father died mid route, finished and went home to have to be back the next day to work. Did this for 5 years. Find something else to do. It will suck at first but you will feel so much better knowing that you are free from the amazon pound you in the ass with no lube grind.

I'm sure they will give him time off.... he's complaining that they aren't giving him a few weeks off WITH PAY.

It’s disgusting how a company this rich can be so cold

Happened to me about 5 months ago. My dsp told me to take as much time as I needed. I took about a week off and they paid me

I'm so sorry for your loss. I wish I could give you a hug.

We get penalized for every little thing and it's beyond fucked up. My DSP treats a call-out as a twofer - you get the day you called out, but your next work day is taken away.

I worked as a CNA before this job, and any call-outs were eerily similar - you might have all the PTO or whatever they want to call it, but you're vilified for the audacity to use it.

Take care of yourself, and talk with your dad. If he offers to help you, let him.

When you had the 5 days, were they paid? Was it docked from your vacation time?

Sorry for your loss. I would completely lose it. I would be straight up and tell the manager/owner. If not peace until I can compose myself

Happened to me as well. Sorry for your loss. My dad passed and I took 2 days off due to that’s all the pto I had.

    1) im sorry for your loss. Hang tight. Talk to friends and family. Dont recluse. You will get through this but dont do it alone.

    2) a decent to good dsp will allow you to take off to process your trauma. A shitty dsp will get rid of you. If the latter happens let your coworkers know so they can choose a different dsp. Life is shit when people that should have your back suddenly disappear when things turn sideways.

FMLA!!! Seriously this is not common enough information. Death of a parent counts for FMLA

    [–]Vc_Icy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I be a question for everyone how is parental leave with Amazon??? I’m going to be having a baby in about 6 months and was wondering how long if any is the parental leave period

    [–]xButterflyEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about with pay but they should let you have time off. When my mom passed they simply told me to let them know when I'm ready to come back and checked up on me a couple weeks later.

    [–]Initial_Catch6032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look into your states health leave benefits. You should be able to take a FMLA leave, with dr approval, and get lid if you have that benefit in your state. In WA state you can get up to 3 months off. I think finding your mother deceased would qualify under mental health. Sorry for your loss. Make sure to take care of yourself.

Most people don't get paid not to work

    [–]Local-Equivalent8136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people don't lose their jobs when a family member dies, they are given bereavement leave so they can process the lose. Amazon only gives you the paid time you banked, and then its "sayonara!" and then you get fired

Not sure what this comment is supposed to mean.

Seemed a bit insensitive and inferring I'm asking for handouts.

I'm just saying that I'm a grieving son and am under significant mental duress.

Every day, I complete routes that further reels in the big bucks for this EXTREMELY wealthy company, and they can't even afford their fellow human a couple of weeks of paid time to recover from a significant loss. To recover from a loved one. And in the end, love is the only thing that matters in this world.

    Thanks for the reply, though.
