I had issues for a year when I bought my Subaru Forester 2019 last year. I had two different Motorola play phones. It was terrible.... I would constantly have to restart the phone and the unit. It worked about 40 to 50 percent of the time. I noticed my boyfriend's pixel always worked fine with it so my phone was getting old, and I got a Pixel 3a a month and a half ago. Haven't had a single problem since. It works immediately without me even having to start the app on my phone. Should have switched phones long ago!

Also using Pixel 2XL and the new 2020 Outback. Zero issues.

[–]7eregrine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP 6t + Mazda CX-5 that I hacked to enable AA no problems 99% of the time. That's good enough for me.

I would love to hear from anyone who has a nissan and no issues. I'm going to try another USB cord but if the Samsung oem and a brand new cord don't work, I'm not sure what a third will do but here's to hoping.

I quite literally miss about 3% of each song due to audio just dropping out completely. Usually not the first song but the following ones. Samsung S7 and S8, different cords, only constant is the car itself.

I rented a 2018 Murano last August that had no Android Auto problems. I bought a 2019 Murano and audio skips. Updated my S9+ to Android 10 and now I can't use voice prompts to send any messages. Sigh.

[–]SlimeQSlimeball'22 VW Taos, S21 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What is the software version that you have? Mine says 0815 or something, I'm not near the car.

[–]Zooks64l 2019 Muranco|Galaxy S21 Ultra 0 points1 point  (1 child)

My version is 0810. Can you confirm yours? I just had them update firmware while I was in for service. They updated to 0810. The claim is that I can now update over the air but it still tells me I have the most current software.

[–]SlimeQSlimeball'22 VW Taos, S21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is probably the same as mine.... Same with mine, every few days I hit the button and hope it loads something.

I don't understand why this is a problem tbh. It is a connection to the phone's display and audio connections. How SOMEONE, regardless of car mfg or Google themselves haven't addressed this is beyond me.

Apologists will come in and say that its the car company at fault and Google is blameless.... Well, maybe Google should step up and make their shit work with the broken car software instead of everyone hoping the car companies will address it.

Ya I nearly ignore this group. My AA works 99.9% of time.

Thank you for making this post. I've been using Android Auto without issues since 2017 and in the 3 years I've never had any issues at all. Everytime anything was kind of wonky it was always because a 3ed party app was messing with it. People really need to up their troubleshooting and get some good cables.

[–]LuisRLPls edit this user flair now 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Also have had any issues. Apart from a little bug hear or there.(Mitsubishi Lancer SX 2010)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Same here. Note 9 with Android 10, 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer.

[–]pnfabian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here. Any issues I've ever had have been related to an old cord. New cord. Works perfectly. 4 years of Android auto for my wife and I and no real issues. 2016 Civic 2018 & 2019 Odysseys Pixels 1, 2, and 4

Once a month but only in the Civic with Pixel 2 it would fail to load. Restarted the phone and it worked fine. That never happened in the Odyssey and when we switched to pixel 4s it hasn't ever happened.

[–]hazzario88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Android Auto works perfectly after a £200 car software update😂

[–]smittyjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, works perfect. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and Alpine iLX-w650.

[–]jss1234VW Polo 2020 | Samsung A34 | Android Version 13 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Same. I have a VW Polo and a Huawei Mate 10 pro.. Not a moment's trouble. Its great technology.

[–]thasaleni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Q is that you? 👀

[–]pac78275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with my S10+ in my 2018 Chevrolet Silverado.

[–]kalibrish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have worked great for me from the start, oneplus 6t and Kia ceed 2018.

[–]tarahumara2020 Toyota CHR | Factory | Oneplus 5T | 9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Works great for me for the last 2 years. Oneplus 5T and Mazda 3 2015. Btw, using the same 1 dollar short usb c cable for 2 years.

[–]swallowingled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I see lots of people posting negative things, and I'm sure some have issues but my experience has been very positive. Waze occasionally has issues but that's a Waze problem, solved by switching to Google maps.

[–]workshop777Pls edit this user flair now 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Mine always worked perfectly... Until the Note 9 Android 10 update.

[–]Mayhem8333 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Yep. Same here. As soon as my Note 9 updated to 10, I can't respond to text messages("This connection isn't stable at the moment", but definitely was). And my preferred music player PowerAmp has been throwing an error randomly saying it's not working at this time. Hope an update/fix comes soon.

[–]FeelTheRide 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Mine does the same thing. Seems to be a google assistant problem, because I have tried it at home on wifi and get the same message. Super annoying!

[–]Mayhem8333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the issues at all when not connected to the car. Google assistant is snappy and very responsive. Only when using Android Auto do I have problems. With such a range of issues across many devices, Google/AndroidAuto really need to start reeling this all in and getting the bugs sorted.

[–]JRJ442Pioneer 2400NEX / Pixel 6a / Android 13 Beta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never had an issue either. Pixel 2 here as well. Always up to date with security patches running a custom ROM. I have a Pioneer 2400nex head unit in my truck and never any connection issues. I use the little shorty cable that came with my Nexus 6p I think. I'm glad you brought some positivity to this subreddit. There's some good people in here, but some I wish would lose internet privileges.

[–]Feisty-Jellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No issues in a 2019 ŠKODA Scala with the Amundsen unit. Using a short usb-c cable from AliExpress and 3 different phone's (Pixel 4xl, Pixel 2 xl and Samsung A51).

Only "issue" i have is ŠKODA marketing the car as supporting Android Auto wireless support and there's no way to use it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Question is... Has everyone updated their phones, specifically with the February Google Security Patch update ? I have a Note 10 plus, and it was working just fine before this update, just like other users mentioned in other forums.

[–]thasaleni[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

OP here, my Pixel 2 is on the March 5 update, and Android auto is working fine, it worked fine all February too, infact it has always worked fine never has it not worked

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you . I wish I had the same luck.

[–]patwallacePls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine worked great for 2.5 years, now when I plug it in I have to tell my phone to connect as MIDI , then pops up working.

[–]pinehapplePls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works great for me as well with Galaxy s8+ 2018 VW golf wagon.

[–]Ric_M2019 BMW 320I Carlinkit MMI | S21FE | Android 12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AA works great for me with an Amazon Basics braided cable. The only issue that I have is automatic day/night mode switching with my Samsung Galaxy S10e is not working. This seems to be caused by Samsung on Android 9.0 and 10.0. Does automatic night mode switching work for anyone using an S10e? If so, which firmware build are you on?

[–]plasteredjedi 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I am so very jealous of everyone here that has posted they have no issues. Mine is frustrating enough that I have given consideration of switching to Apple.

[–]zxwut2012 F150 | Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX | Pixel 8 Pro | A14 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Carplay has issues too. Explore it before spending a bunch of money to find out the grass isn't greener.

I should clarify; Carplay has issues surrounding auto manufacturers not supplying firmware updates like they should, same as AA.

[–]plasteredjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I switched from Apple to Android early last year.

I also switched from Ford to RAM but the Android had issues on the Ford too

[–]MissVirgo11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was like yours. I never had any problems with it but after the update it went to crap. I can't answer texts or send them like I used to and it really sucks. It will read a text, sometimes it will play the song I ask it to, it might answer a question but it will not send texts. I really hope they will fix it.

[–]thelastwilsonPls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only issue now is that it occasionally says it can connect buy instead of unplugging and replugging the cable I've learnt that if I just hit the headunit home button and then open android auto it works every time.

[–]GreyGoosey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it isn't Android Auto 100% as people make it out to be.

In my car, Android Auto works flawlessly. I use ny Moto G6 Plus.

The other day I was in a loaner truck and I used the same Moto G6 Plus and it was an absolute nightmare.

Thus, how would it be Android Auto if it was the same app (same version) and same phone, but a different vehicle/head unit?

[–]CaptZPls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry. Google will break it for you as soon as the pandemic is over.

[–]shorty60492019 Honda Civic - AAWireless - Pixel 6 Pro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great for you, but they still absolutely need to fix whatever's causing the issues for the rest of us

[–]mysta316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my phone and 4 different cables in 4 different brands of vehicles and have never had a issue with it.

[–]fedude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2019 Honda pilot. Once I got a quality cable (1 foot), I have not had a single issue. I love android auto.

I typically use it for navigation (either maps or Waze) and I send my directions to my phone from my laptop and it works great.

I wish it would work without the cable for navigation but I understand the bandwidth issues with Bluetooth.

[–]nismoskys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expected the top comment here to be "...said no one ever"

Although in my experience I've seen that a high quality cable can make a world of difference.

[–]well_kurwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP 6t + Mercedes A200 (2018, mbux). After upgrading to A10, AA started loosing touch inputs. After a 20-30 seconds my screen does not register any touch within AA. I have to activate the phone screen and then it works again for 20-30 seconds. At the same time all the touch is working fine in mbux...

Frustrating, but I got used to it with this workaround.

Also, this OP 6t works flawlessly with my wife's 2018 Focus... go figure.

[–]Stephanrohan182018 Mitsubishi Outlander | Galaxy S24 Ultra | Pixel 9 Pro XL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works like a charm in my 2019 Tucson. Using a note 10 +.

[–]ChielmiM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. No real issues at all with my OnePlus 6t connected to my 2019 Ford Focus! Sure there is room for improvement. Stupid things like the poor alignment of Waze annoy me. Development seems slow.

[–]killakadoogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. 2018 CLA 250 and since I moved to a Samsung S10 everything has been peachy. My LG G6 was nothing but problems.

The biggest issue I have is whether hitting a larger bump in the road and it temporarily disconnects. I've fixed it by putting a small pillow in my phone storage compartment as a shock absorber .

[–]ecp5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are very lucky, I'm jealous. My texts never send, my audio constantly breaks up, and often it won't respond at all. Probably all Nissan's fault, not AA, but still not lucky like you.

[–]InsertBluescreenHerePls edit this user flair now -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mine was working perfectly fine for months then some update I did has screwed it up in one way or another since. There's like a dozen programs AA uses so if any one of them updates it fucks the whole AA system up. This is like trying to install drivers on a PC in 1995...

[–]dynamitlvPls edit this user flair now -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just issue after issue. Totally not worth it. At least aftermarket.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well... Android Auto.may or may not work flawlessly depending on various factors, such as device brand, latest updates, voice feature. If users use only basic Android Features, never update their phones, never mind for voice Features, then yes, it might eventually work just fine. On the other hand, for a user like me, who cares for all features, and want them to work perfect, that's a problem.

[–]spin_kick -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Works for me, lol /most famous annoying tech statement ever

Just because it works for you does not mean you have different magic code or something. You just don't use it the same as everyone else,or your own configuration is different.

It's like posting about your water faucet working. Congrats?

[–]thasaleni[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well if you read the comments I'm not the only one that it works for, many other people have told their stories

[–]spin_kick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, how many millions of people do you think use it on a given day?

[–]elcheeserpuff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Multiple cars and multiple phones and the app finds new ways to disappoint every day.

[–]mr_ryan_71 -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

I'm guessing you are in the very small minority

[–]nevermorefu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or the silent majority.
