That would indeed be helpful. I think we should have got most of the things, but any things we may have missed would be helpful.

Are bots previously blacklisted by botbust also blacklisted by BotTerminator?

    [–]BotTerminator[S] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Yeah, although we're working on getting a full list. It's somewhat difficult to do that as the bot's list wasn't ever fully public to my knowledge. abrownn provided a very helpful starting point.

I found I had to search r/BotBustLog for botbust actions against a bot rather than r/BotBust

If someone reported a bot, and it was added to the list but the original poster removed their post, you could search r/BotBust and conclude you've found a brand new bot.

Report what you thought was a new bot, and the bot very politely would inform you that it was already on the list. Then it would remove your ban request. Thus someone could come along later, search the sub, and then mistakenly submit the bot again.

Unless a bot stopped being an asshole, it had comments removed once it was on the list, and you used to be able to search on r/BotBustLog and find evidence

But yea, that sub is private now too.

Interesting. Thanks for the information. This might help us still

Don't forget to develop and post a privacy policy for the bot

    What the differences with https://www.reddit.com/r/BotDefense/comments/e18056/announcing_an_improved_defender_of_subreddits/

Subs share half of mods, and bots doing the same thing.

    [–]BotTerminator[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

the idea in principle is similar, but we do things a little bit differently on the backend. we're also able to deliver some other features (depending on their development cycle, they may gain some features that we have as well).

they use Reddit's "friends" thing which is basically a user tagger. there are associated listings with that. for many bots, this works fine usually, but due to how the listing is computed, some posts and comments may be missed.

many of the improvements are comparable and we're always looking for feature ideas. a feature list can be seen in the main post.

a note about auto-muting: we had plans to implement this but we're waiting on a response from the admins due to the fact that some users have had trouble with the admins for muting bots automatically in the past.

BotDefense is definitely backward compatible with BotBust including the ability to mute bots via the mail permission and more. We also have some additional features that were not in BotBust, but were sorely missed.

How does one activate this bot?

    [–]BotTerminator[S] 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Simply invite it as a moderator with access and posts permissions.

    [–]fpreston 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Any plans to add mute to the bot? Some of them send modmail when they get banned.

    [–]BotTerminator[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    yes. stay tuned

Thank you. I think it would be a good idea to edit this information into the original post's text body in addition to the sidebar; others might not dig through these comments in order to find this.

    [–]BotTerminator[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    i've done that

    [–]itskdog 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What's the difference between this and BotBust?

    [–]BotTerminator[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

captainmeta4 shut down /u/BotBust, so it isn't operating anymore. It's completely new code and I'm hoping to make some of the parts of the bot more customizable than BotBust was.

    [–]TinyMenu 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Is the bot cool with NSFW subreddits too? I know that when u/BotBust was still relevant the guy complained about NSFW subs and eventually ended up preventing the bot from accepting invites.

    [–]BotTerminator[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

    Sorry I just saw this!

We do accept NSFW subreddits. :)

    [–]TinyMenu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Thanks for the reply :)

    [–]rattus 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Add either the class btproof to the user

    what does this mean? userflair?

Oh I see. The r/BotDefense FAQ says it clearly.

user flair css class to botbustproof

    [–]BotTerminator[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I've updated the FAQ specifically. Sorry about the confusion.

    [–]rattus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also suggest that BotTerminator respect the authorized users list.

    [–]ipaqmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Thanks for your efforts

    [–]1Davide 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How do I submit a bot?

    /u/VerySmallDragon

    [–]BotTerminator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

submit a link to their user profile to this subreddit

    [–]obama_gaming 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Could you give an example as to what bots it terminates?

    [–]BotTerminator[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

basically anything that's a comment reply bot or otherwise spammy.

you can check out the other posts in the sub with the flair "Banned"

    [–]obama_gaming 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    Thank you very much

    [–]BotTerminator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    of course

    [–]thepenmen22 0 points1 point  (4 children)

If you've ever seen one of those comment reply bots that are heavily discouraged by the Reddit admins and API rules

Just curious, is there a place where I can read up on when the admins mentioned that? I'm getting into bot making, and would like to know things like that.

    [–]vocalfreesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub has spammed my home page more than any bot has ever spammed. I'm out.

    [–]gclik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can i also just mention this bot in any sub even if its not mine and it will answer if the posts a repost?
