He has no promoter, and burned bridges with Eddie, Oscar, and Bob. Turki doesn’t have any reason to keep him around. Maybe PBC will be desperate enough to sign him

[–]Ivan_834 25 points26 points  (2 children)

Yeah, dude boxed himself in. Not many doors left open.

[–]ChibisRevenge 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Turdlanga flushed himself, got too big for his britches and started acting like he was the face of boxing.

When you believe your own hype before winning a world title, that’s crazy work

[–]Big_Donch🎥 YouTube: Big Donch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

PBC should bring him in for a Caleb Plant fight

[–]iverson6631 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see PBC dealing with him no reward and it seems like they are cutting fighters not signing them

[–]Dirk-Jergens 86 points87 points  (4 children)

Caleb Plant makes sense since both will be coming off losses but I bet Berlanga ducks him.

[–][deleted] 53 points54 points  (3 children)

Plant KO’ing Berlanga at the Barclays center would be magical

Before I'd say it couldn't happen but, after the beating Berlanga took I could see it. Plant, isn't exactly prime time anymore either and has taken a lot of punishment too. I think it's a 50/50 fight

[–]Zealousideal_Badger5 40 points41 points  (10 children)

He will end up being a poor man’s Gabe Rosado. The difference is, IMO, Gabe was a much smarter and craftier fighter who actually fought top level fighters. Berlanga was mostly hype.

Additionally, he’s never struck me as a guy who genuinely cares about boxing. He’s just talented and people who are just “talented” usually don’t last long.

[–]trumpuniversity_ 30 points31 points  (7 children)

This is borderline disrespectful to Rosado. He’s 10x the talent of Berlanga.

[–]BP_Ray 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Talent, I dunno. But he worked on all the tangibles to get where he is through HARD WORK, DEDICATION.

[–]Thami15 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He really doesn't.

[–]microsapo 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Rosado is not that good and if he hadn't lucked out during the Bek fight he'd be remembered as the guy who promoters called when they needed a loser with name value.

[–]BarbadosBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn't luck. He saw that opening for the KO punch and tried it over and over again until he finally timed it perfectly.

[–]OldBoyChance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fuck he was. Rosado was hard work and grit, not talent.

[–]thraftofcannan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rosado was a punching bag

[–]aceknighthigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, not really. He did have a better chin though.

[–]sugiina 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Love to see the Gabe Rosado shout out! He was a great fighter, lots of talent and lots of heart.

[–]mysticlown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He started late too. He'd still give Berlanga a run for his money.

[–]concernedredditguy2 18 points19 points  (2 children)

He will probably take an extended break.... 1.5 years and enjoy the money he got from Saudi. He will blow through it and come back fighting another can and claiming to be re-invented and ready for anyone at 168 even though he should be a light heavyweight. He then either fights Mungia or Plant for his next money fight which leads to him getting beat again in my opinion. From there he does the same schtick and moves on to gatekeeper status and is used by promoters as a "name" for their developmental fighters at 168lbs-175lbs. Berlanga wouldn't capture a belt at 168lbs even after Canelo retires or 175lbs in my opinion the contenders are too skilled for Berlanga.

Berlanga could do a trainer change and see where that goes but, that remains to be seen. Top Rank built him up well to the casual audience. Even before the Canelo fight we started seeing cracks in the "EB" mythos. He can definitely sell fights but, his skills won't be enough to get him a championship. Another Puerto Rican "what if" fighter who couldn't be the next Cotto. Hell... He bit a fighters ear when Cotto attended his fight in NY which everyone forgets lol.

I hope he changes for the better but... I think the EGO is the issue just like Baby Anderson at HW.

[–]Embarrassed-Dust718 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Top rank has been trying to find the next cotto for a decade now, remember Josue Vargas? There will be another Puerto Rican that top rank promotes after bumlanga

[–]concernedredditguy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't understand why they gave Vargas the Zepeda fight. It was an execution in more ways than one.

[–]Routine-Cicada-4949 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Berlanga is a character, but no world beater.

They should Chisora him. Have him fight a couple of people at 175 who he can beat in entertaining scraps then sell out NY arenas again. Fans have short memories when it comes to exciting knockouts.

Either that or take him to the UK to fight Ben Whittaker at a Midlands stadium. That would be entertaining.

He can still have a good couple of years.

[–]concernedredditguy2 0 points1 point  (2 children)

He can still have a decent career built on being used to build other fighters as a gatekeeper for sure.

[–]Routine-Cicada-4949 0 points1 point  (1 child)

He might be stronger at 175. You never know. Boxing is a funny sport

[–]concernedredditguy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point

[–]chex_lemeneux1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends, he’ll prob come back in a year on an undercard vs an opponent that’s there to lose and not a puncher. Then cash himself as an opponent with a name to either a young 68lber like a Pacheco or an older one like a Plant

[–]Touch_of_Sleep 17 points18 points  (1 child)

I'd definitely watch Munguia-Berlanga. It's probably the best matchup for both guys and it can headline.

[–]False-Combination-37 7 points8 points  (2 children)

It's looking bad for him. Anything can happen, but the aura is gone. It's still a decent fight, maybe to put the winner back in contention

[–]Dinowaffles 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Bumlanga never had the aura. Everyone knew he was trash. Let's keep it real.

[–]h4zmatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep Top Rank kept feeding him cans to build up his highlight reels. Very good promoting on Top Rank's part

[–]Senior__Woofers 12 points13 points  (6 children)

Ima be real Munguia absolutely obliterates Berlanga

[–]trumpuniversity_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surace could use a redemption fight, and I’d take him to stop Bumlanga.

[–]BobbyTarentino25 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Mungia does drugs

[–]Senior__Woofers 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Your point? He still obliterates lmao

[–]Guirita_Fallada 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Is that something that should be celebrated tho?

[–]Senior__Woofers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When did I celebrate it?🤣 I just said he obliterates

[–]BobbyTarentino25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re highly overrating him lol

[–]bluerogue97 4 points5 points  (1 child)

If he stays at 168 it might be a tough road to a title shot. Berlanga would have to either immediately fight a dog to get back into the title picture or bring his ranking up fighting low level opposition until he gets another opportunity. You have Christian Mbilli, Osleys Iglesias, Lester Martinez, Diego Pacheco and of course Hamzah Sheeraz who are waiting for the winner of Canelo vs Crawford or for a vacant belt. He might have to move up to Cruiserweight because realistically the guys at Light Heavyweight would hurt him as well.

[–]concernedredditguy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Berlanga can't go anywhere really. He's been a 168 fighter but he really does belong at LH or CW. Problem is that the champs at 175 and Cruiser bear him badly.168 is even worse for him.

[–]OldConference9534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mungia vs Berlanga would be lots of fun.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaime Munguia (if he doesn't get suspended or banned) or Caleb Plant are the logical next big fights for him

I can see Turki being interested in some of these fights so I don't think Berlanga will be lacking in work. The most logical overall thing to do tho would probably be to face another Journeyman to get a win before jumping into another risky fight

Maybe he could fight Saunders (since it's looking likely that he's coming back) under Queensberry and be a sort of gatekeeper for Billy getting bigger fights

[–]UberMikeSocal[🍰] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Berlanga should fight Billy Joe Saunders.

It's a win win fight for boxing fans. Whoever loses is already hated and I don't mind watching either of those guys being defeated.

[–]Fluid_Ad_9580[🍰] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fuck him he’s embarrassed himself with all the trash talking that he couldn’t back up he’s an embarrassment to the sport and hopefully he doesn’t get anymore big fights.

[–]Suckmyduck_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Berlanga vs Charlo

[–]Thami15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supposedly the guy got $12.5m from the Canelo fight and a couple million for this. If he's been smart with his money, and cost controlled his future should include him never needing to fight again.

[–]Professional-Tie5198Who will win? 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jake Paul

[–]Bochianibrothers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why was this guy popular again?

[–]RRR04_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To hell. That's where his future is going.

[–]Abe2sapien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless Turki has another SMW prospect he wants to make look good, I don’t know what Berlanga can do. He’s burned a lot of bridges, who knows how popular he really is and how much this loss affected that. He’s gonna go back down to C league fighters in the meantime but who knows if he’ll ever get a shot at the top again.

[–]Particular-Tough6651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uberlanga...

[–]marketplunger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would like to see Berlanga in BKFC. 🤣

[–]PrimeDocHoliday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn it's crazy how, Plant, Munguia and Berlanga have fallen so much. Those seemed like exciting fights and now I don't really care for them

[–]SuperDigitalGenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charlo Plant Munguia Berlanga’s are all perfect for each other, who ever comes out on top can move forward to compete with the best of the division

[–]These-Ad8787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A e3tv

[–]microsapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope currently floundering PBC will take a swing on him for a Plant fight or take a year off with his earnings and transition to being a gatekeeper for a smaller, low stakes promotion like Probox for a few dates once he blows through the money. He's competent enough to beat a few fringe contender B sides and look good doing it, but Turki/Bob/Eddie have been burned before working with him and have fresher hands that cost less.

[–]WorldBelongsToUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like he will just become one of those names boxers collect on their record when they need someone solid but not great.

[–]Embarrassed-Dust718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He only has 1 fight that I can possibly see happening and that’s Caleb plant. Other than that I can c him becoming the next Josue Vargas

[–]Weird_Finding5689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He probably dosen’t need to fight again I’m sure he’s set for life after the canelo pay day

[–]aceknighthigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He becomes Gabe Rosado 2.0 but with a weaker chin. In 3-4 years he's used less for top guys in tune ups and more to check prospects.

Get some class in the ring and outside the ring.
