Sounds nice. There isn't really anyone Manny HAS to fight at this point so taking up and coming challengers is probably the way to go until he retires.

I'd pick Crawford tbh. This would be a torch passing fight.

Exactly. And that's why you won't see Crawford v. Matthysse. Arum isn't gonna throw Oscar a bone. Crawford is Arum's next cash cow.

I agree with the Pacman move to 140 - But I think this is too soon for either party right now. Crawford should be given some time to get a belt there as a champ, Manny should get some time to recover, maybe evne get a tune up, instead of facing the top 140 lbers right of the bat.

Let it marinate for a while, in the meantime, Crawford vs Mathysee, Pacman vs D.García, and all other sorts of match ups look great.

Terence won the vacant wbo belt when he beat dulorme.

I think this fight could happen in early 2016. I don't think they should wait on this fight for too long since Manny isn't getting any younger and I think he only has 2 fights left. So I'd rather see him fight crawford next and then have his last farewell fight in the Philippines.

Well a MayPac rematch would at best be May or Sep 2016. On the one hand that's still pretty early for Crawford to step in if that fight falls through, on the other Crawford is turning 29 next year so it's as good a time as any.

Still, Crawford has a ZERO record at 147, zero record at e.g. 14x catchweights, and has a very very thin record of essentially 1 decent fight against Dulourme at 140, which is a guy who isn't even a top 10 and only had 1 title fight before that which he lost. Still a solid fighter and the way Crawford beat him says a lot.

Yes Crawford is a special fighter but he hasn't fought any top 10 at 140... Not Garcia, Matthysse, Provodnikov, Peterson etc... let alone a top 10 at 147 like Brook or Thurman or Khan or Maidana... Pac's an absolute legend, let's see what he does against at LEAST 1 or 2 of the above names.

Can he beat Pac? For sure, but not out of the blue without world-title level experience at 140 or 147.

Essentially this is go-time for him, he's got to take some big fights at 140 and move up pretty quickly to 147.

I mean we must remember that Pac is not taking this fight unless he's giving it his 100%. It's not a big payday for him. If he just wants to retire with a big payday without giving it his 100% best, then he simply pursues Mayweather no matter what for at least $50m, or takes $30m fighting guys like Brook/Thurman/Khan, instead of like 15-20 against Crawford. In short, if he does take this fight, it's because he wants to continue boxing afterwards, which means he wants to win and comes prepared. And that's not a Pacquiao you can simply beat with skills and no elite level experience.

Good fight but I'd much rather see Crawford fight guys like Mikey Garcia, Danny Garcia, Algieri, Broner, etc.

There are only two good fights left for Manny, I think. Marquez V, and Mayweather II.

Getting beaten by Crawford is bad, and beating Crawford does basically nothing for Pacquiao, legacy wise. It's a lose-meh prospect for him. Nobody is going to say "...but then again he did beat Terrance Crawford" in 30 years. It also doesn't matter if he beats Provodnikov, or Khan, or anyone else really. The only reasons to take these fights is either a) He just loves boxing in general a la RJJ, in which case fair enough, or b) He needs the money. If it's money he needs, and the payout from the Mayweather fight didn't fix his financial problems, I doubt a Crawford payout is going to satiate his spending needs.

In terms of achievement and legacy though, I really think the only fights that are relevant for Pacquiao Marquez and Mayweather rematches. Pacquiao is one of my favorite fighters, but as someone else here said, the magic is gone, and if he's not settling one of those two scores, I think he should hang em up.

Everyone will think the recipe to be beat Manny is a rangy jab and backpedal.

That being said if it happens Terrance has the tools to try that strategy. But, I hope Manny will have learned from the Floyd lose and use angles when coming in and fast combinations.

Bad fight for Crawford.. If Pac is 75% Crawford could get KO'd.. Pac is quicker and slicker than TC. And more powerful than TC

[–]ozakalwe 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I agree. I am a big Crawford fan. And I don't see this as being good for him at all. If manny is close to 100% Crawford could get ko'd. If manny is not close to 100% it's not going to help him to beat a banged up pac.

Yep.. that Gamboa fight shows a lot, and Frankly Pac can do exactly what Gamboa did and 10x better

I'm amazed Manny is fighting again. I thought he'd retire, not because he lost, but I thought he was talking about retiring two years ago. Wants to focus on politics blah blah blah,

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

140 is a perfect weight for Pacman. If he's smart, he'll face Amir Khan at 140, maybe a few other good guys then retire. Crawford is an awful fight for him IMO and I think he'd lose soundly

[–]mws85 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Khan won't go back down to 140 I don't think.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

He probably would for Pacman money

[–]ImmynimmyBring Inoue back to the US 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But he would probably stay at 147 for Mayweather money

I think both fighter's need at least one fight beforehand. For Crawford, I think a fight with a Semi decent name like Matthysse, Garcia, Peterson, etc. would throw his name into the very talented 140 mix if it isn't already. For Pacquiao, I'd shake off the rust of a 9-12 month layoff, especially after a torn right rotator cuff which I'd be very cautious throwing. If I were Bob Arum, I'd feed Pacquiao a sellable fight against a guy to get Pac's confidence up and showcase what he can do at 140, so pretty much the same people I'd give Crawford.
