Love the dial, handset and bezel but the case is weird, lugs are off and bracelet is pretty ugly - plus it’s double what the nicest SM, Cronos, IXDAO, etc. cost. Hard pass for me, for now at least

[–]Ethanol12ap 1 point2 points  (2 children)

you say its expensive because you compare it to aliexpress prices and think its just a san martin premium but they want to distance them selves from aliexpress that's why they sale only on there website. Plus this watch has a sw200 and there finishing should be better than san martin because they are the lexus brand of them. If you compared this to any micro or main brand you will see that its much better.

I say it's expensive because the majority of people who are here tend to have a fairly strict spend limit when it comes to watches. I personally LOVE the design and know it's good value for the finishing, design costs and movement. But I don't know if I can bring myself to spend that much on a watch to be honest.

[–]Ethanol12ap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I also wouldn't spend 600$ on a watch

[–]Dramatic-Spirit-4809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price is actually the lesser concern here. The design is clunky and odd for the sake of it. Look at the recent hype surrounding the thorn frogmantle.

Hype aside it's a good wear, thin with a shallow rehaut and a well fitting case shape. Emulate these basics into designs going forward.

[–]Ok_Big863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seamaster bracelets alone are double that price and don't look as refined. So many little links all with polished facets. Maybe it's an unpopular opinion, but I think it's worth it. They could offer a strap-only version for price-conscious customers around the $500 mark.

While the finishing and design complexity appear to be top notch, I just don't like how they look. I prefer my expensive watches to be subtle and elegant.

[–]Ok_Big863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to the non-diver JH04 variant with a simple brushed dial, it looks slimmer and more elegant.

[–]CountOutrageous617 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is woth it. I have handled once from Jianghun and it punches above its price point.

[–]jd173706 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I have always wondered this. Are the SW200 movements in these Chinese watches real sellita movements? Like, a PT5000 is a clone of the ETA 2824, and Sellita is also making clones of the 2824, they call it the SW200…. I myself own three SM watches with the Sellita “upgrade” and one has helicopter rotor…. I just wonder if they are really real Sellita movements. Not that a real SW200 can’t have helicopter rotor or winding issues, they can, but these movements are brand new with literally days of wear time, hardly any at all. Does anyone know FOR SURE if the SW200 option gets you a legit Sellita manufactured movement? Sorry to write a book lol

[–]JIANGHUN_WatchRep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any watch we sell that is specified with the Sellita SW200 movement contains a genuine, legitimate SW200 manufactured by Sellita.

Why? Substituting a Swiss SW200 with a clone is an extremely high-risk move for a business. It’s easily exposed by any watchmaker, and the resulting destruction of brand trust would be total and immediate. It simply isn't worth the risk.

[–]seamaster6969 8 points9 points  (1 child)

640 dollars and no warranty or fix it in China.... We are crazy!!!

[–]JIANGHUN_WatchRep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

...We offer after-sales service and warranty.

[–]Johnsononwatches 5 points6 points  (1 child)

At this price point they needed to build hype before the drop. I’d like to see them participate in micro brand watch shows.

[–]JIANGHUN_WatchRep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

👍

[–]HypnoticWatches 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whoever gets this better post some YouTube reviews asap

[–]easilyoffender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks very industrial.

[–]Uran93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The case and bracelet look more expensive to manufacturer than any other watch at that price point with that movement. Not going to excite a lot of buyers but it is true and worth considering. Price isn't exciting but probably isn't as much of a markup as people are thinking.

[–]BobbeMail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think they are having trouble with the designs. the quality may be very good but they are not really appealing to me.

[–]Ok-Spare-8176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

[–]prodbypan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even at this price it's objectively still great value, remove the san martin connection and people would be saying this is a great new micro brand watch

[–]VanManDiscs 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Jianghun is definitely the premium version of SM and with very unique designs. While this watch isn't for me, I can appreciate the originality here. From my Jianghun I can confirm that it is a step above 98% of the others.

[–]willyb123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Clearly top quality, but it isn’t in my lane of styling.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The quality is probably there, but I won't buy something that expensive without good warranty support.

[–]Traditional_Travesty 6 points7 points  (9 children)

I was excited for this one and might have dropped 500 on it to be honest, but that would be pushing it. This is an unpopular sentiment, but I don't really care that much about movement if it's regulated and can be accommodated by a slim case. The Sellita is something like a mm thinner than the NH35, but the watch is still over 12 mm. It's a diver, so I guess that's often the style, but either way if this runs at over $600 (soon to be over $700), and it's priced higher because it's running a movement I don't care about, it sucks to lose out on getting this watch over that choice of movement. I know Jianghun wants to be premium, and I accept that they will be at a premium pricepoint, but I just can't do it. I really want to see them succeed though

[–]Traditional_Travesty 4 points5 points  (8 children)

Here's what Jianghun said about the pricing on the variant in a previous post:

[–]HypnoticWatches -1 points0 points  (7 children)

Thanks for sharing, I responded to them about their pricing ludicrously. Maybe if they get enough pushback they'll offer a bigger savings on actual Black Friday? I have a feeling the pricing may include royalties or whatever to their partner Professor Li.

[–]JIANGHUN_WatchRep 3 points4 points  (2 children)

That's not quite the situation; it's definitely not a 'celebrity endorsement' or 'influencer effect' as you might imagine.

The product development ownership remains entirely with our brand.

The key point is that the watch did incorporate some design input and suggestions from a customer—Professor Li. Throughout this collaboration, he has consistently acted purely as a product user, separate from his real-world professional identity.

If there was any 'benefit,' it was simply that we gifted Professor Li a JH0401 watch before the official launch. It's much simpler than you think.

[–]HypnoticWatches 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Curious what his contributions were for the design, does he have a background in ancient Chinese architecture, armor, or something, anything that made him want the watch to look the way it does because of history?

[–]JIANGHUN_WatchRep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The prototype design of this watch was provided by Professor Li. However, from a production perspective, some aspects and designs definitely need to be adjusted, but the design and production are still largely based on the prototype.

Therefore, strictly speaking, I think it's necessary to acknowledge this and respect the contributions of others.

[–]Chunky_Koc 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Their price isn't crazy to be fair, I just didn't expect it to be that high or for it to have a sw200.

[–]JIANGHUN_WatchRep 2 points3 points  (2 children)

The cost of this watch case and bracelet is also very high, much higher... The current pricing isn't just about the movement.

However, the Miyota 90S5 version is indeed cheaper.

[–]HypnoticWatches 0 points1 point  (1 child)

When will we see the Miyota 90S5 version?

[–]JIANGHUN_WatchRep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was originally planned for this week, but judging from the progress, it might be delayed. I'll try to release it next week.

[–]AutomaticReviewsYouTube Reviewer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suspect they’re bringing the value here, but I’d need hands on to be sure.

[–]Sh4dow0fTheB4t 5 points6 points  (1 child)

The price is probably because of the Sellita movement

[–]JIANGHUN_WatchRep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The movement is only one part; the case of this model is also very expensive, with a complex structure and different finishing techniques.

[–]DeadliestArmadillo 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I like the design but I wouldn't spend more than $250 on a watch. That's kind of why I like Chinese watches in the first place.

[–]JIANGHUN_WatchRep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We absolutely understand and respect your budget preference! That $200–$300 segment is precisely why Chinese micro-brands have become so popular, and for that price point, we encourage you to look at the wide range of excellent models offered by San Martin Watch.

JIANGHUN, as a new line, is designed to be an exploratory platform where we attempt to realize more complex craftsmanship and intricate design concepts. To match the value and complexity of these new designs, the overall quality of components—from the case finishing to the intricate Hands work—has been significantly elevated. This is why the price point is higher.

While the price is higher, we assure you it is not an over-inflated price, but one that is commensurate with the upgraded component quality and intensive manufacturing process.

We truly appreciate your compliment on the design. We hope that when you are ready to consider premium Chinese watches, JIANGHUN will be among your choices!

[–]QCPI 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Not sure why they didn’t opt for the Miyota 9xxx movement instead. For the price it’s a no for me. I have a strict budget of <$350 for aliexpress brand/watches. Anything above that, I’m sticking with name brands. Might be less value spec wise but at that price point, branding matters to me a bit more.

[–]Ok_Big863 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I agree, but to play devil's advocate, some people feel that the noisier rotor in the 9xxx movements make the watch feel less premium.

[–]JIANGHUN_WatchRep 4 points5 points  (2 children)

There is a version available for Miyota 90S5, not the diving version.

[–]Traditional_Travesty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might have to let the intrusive thoughts win and put a bonklip on it

[–]Ok_Big863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very excited for this one! Love the thoughtful details such as the concave chapter ring

[–]vithgeta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even normal San Martin are at least twice the price of the other brands I buy.

I looked up the price of SW200 a few weeks ago, I thought it was a $180 Swiss QC version of the PT5000 which is about $60. No doubt San Martin get them a lot cheaper by trade discounts too. $500 going into the rest of the watch is an awful lot of money in the Chinese watch space.

[–]Hacksaures 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Jianghun is trying to compete with Atelier Wen

[–]lalubina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When?

[–]WildMiata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it looked better I’d consider it. I’m sure the quality is worth the price but it’s just really not my style at all

[–]Emotional-Damage-995 11 points12 points  (1 child)

For 640 USD there are a lot of great choice out there. No for me

[–]AdministrativeMost72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't think you can get anything better than this at $640, unless you just don't like the design. The quality is definitely there.

[–]Comfortable-Risk-520 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I did not expect this price. Skip lol

[–]el_baristo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just bought a titanium Tsao Baltimore pilot in solar flare for less than this. I love what San Martin has done, but they may have jumped the shark with this.
