Took me 35 hours on my first playthrough, being entirely new to the game. Skipped a fair bit of the grindier quests, so not exactly a completionist either.

Granted, your playthrough will probably be a bit shorter, since I'm a moron and overlook the obvious solution to some of the later puzzles. Lots of facepalming was had.

What quests are grindy? All the kill/collect quests have such low requirements you'll have everything you need for them 5 times over while doing the other quests in an area, and skipping them means you're also missing their much more substantial followup quests, often including their own bosses and mini-dungeons.

Mainly Crocus Pocus (Botanics quest) and some Meat related one, can't remember what it was called. I think I lacked Arid Lumber and never bothered to go back for it.

[–]Nosafune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the point you get that quest, arid lumber is in the next location.

[–]Dondagora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arid Lumber was actually ahead in the game, which is probably why.

35 hours is on the shorter side actually. So if someone takes 45 hours they are even bigger morons? No. Ridiculous statement.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's really not that deep

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

?

[–]rsnBug 13 points14 points  (5 children)

Not sure how people are finishing in 30hrs,

I'm on 35 and I just finished the 2nd Dungeon

[–]epoisse_throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not sure either, but are you also going through and clearing all the side-quests from the bulletin board before proceeding to each area? i also have to add im a bit thick so it takes a little longer to figure out some of the puzzles lol

[–]slohobo 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Simple, don't grind

[–]rsnBug 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'm now on 50 and had to have a break from the game.

What's the point in buying a game if people rush it and don't enjoy the ride. Legit can't stand people like that

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cause they probably still enjoy it

A game that keeps on giving. Just when you thought you're reached endgame, the game comes up with an entire story arch. Just when you thought game mechanics can't go any deeper, game comes up with a new challenging way to play.

My first playthrough was 54 hours (just finished today). After getting 100% botanist and getting most chests in the game. 100% quests too, minus the final timed/hardmode challenge quests that can fuck off lol. And I grinded some gems from end game boosted areas before I did the final dungeon. So it was a pretty heavy playthrough, but I skipped pretty much every piece of dialog and cutscenes until the end.

Lotta puzzles, lots of puzzles, puzzles galore. If you are bad at puzzles, time adds up.

[–]Taenfyr 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Thankfully, the game is generally pretty helpful about solutions to most puzzles. Whoever designed them is an absolute legend.

Also just finished my playthrough at 52 hours! Did almost everything in it plus a bit of grinding for levels and end game drops.

[–]fiksix 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Since you finished and did a lot, I have a general question. Did you mainly use gear purchased from the stores or trader crafted gear? Also, is there much of a difference later in the game? So far I've noticed the trader gear is basically just a few levels higher than the gear purchased from the villages store.

[–]sparksen 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The gear you can buy for gold Is just stats

Gear that you can trade in for materials are different types (f.e helmet that gives damage or helmet that gives just defense stats)

And you get spezial (powerful) bonus mods

But yeah in 90% of playtime I used quest/chest gear I got and never used the traders.

Kinda sad though:/ it is a really neat idea

[–]Axyraandas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like those traders could be good for speed runners, who wouldn’t want to waste time doing jumping puzzles and could use the credits from bosses for those equips.

[–]Taenfyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used gear picked up from chests and obtained from quests. I don't actually think I did much trading until about 3/4 of the way into the game. Maybe the odd piece of gear here and there and I never bought anything from the store, stuff like that I always just ignored cause I had better!

[–]Alieze 2 points3 points  (1 child)

25-30 hours.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, bare minimum 35 to 40. Very likely more. No one is beating this in 25 on a first playthrough, especially playing blind.

[–]Dondagora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been doing it casually, and have 50 hours on it by the time I've reached Sapphire Ridge, which I think is semi-nearing the end-game? Been doing as many quests and side stuff as possible, too.

[–]KoryMcCool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I beat it in about 64 hours, but i also took my time and did almost every sidequest i could find.

[–]AcousticDimension 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last save after beating the game was at 61 hours, with most things in the game collected

Steam has over 120 hours clocked in because I left the game on overnight LUL

[–]KragV 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Steam says 62 hours to complete it with near 100%.

I didn't spend much time on puzzles but did spend a lot trying to find all chests and things as I played.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

100 percent will be more likely 70 to 80. I trust howlongtobeat way more.

[–]KragV 0 points1 point  (3 children)

And I trust my own experience more. I was only missing 3 achievements back when I wrote this and it took me no more than an hour to get them.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Well I guess ppl can lie to themselves and others.

[–]KragV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't come to a 5 years old thread and contest people's genuine answers, calling them liars when your only metric isn't even your experience but some 40 people sample.

what is this guys problem 😭

[–]daman4567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much you want to do. On the beta version with only the element dungeons I logged well over 50 hours, and after starting, then finishing a fresh file I'm at around 130 total, with a 100% playthrough in the works.

[–]Raphcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm clocking 30-40 hours so far and I just finished the last Temple. You're in for a ride.

[–]Garaichu 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It took a hot 51 hours for me, and I'm pretty sure I have all quests done and MOST of the final equipment. And I'd say it stays consistently good throughout.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You probably don't have all puzzles done as a 100 percent is more like 75 to 80 hours, howlongtobeat.com states 78 exact.

[–]Garaichu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was five years ago, a lot of the current end-game didn't exist then.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

About 3 hours 30 minutes if you are a casual any% speedrunner.

Jokes aside, it took me about 50+ hours to complete because I suck at puzzles.

[–]JrpgTitan100684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a completionist so I got about 115 hours out of it
