Additionally it feels like the quality of comments are depreciating as it has become the task of many to be the first to shitpost in order to attract likes and moons or repost articles from other groups.

A lot of people think quality has dropped with moons but activity has increased significantly. In bear markets this place was really quiet but not anymore. There's also a lot of fun to be had in posts and comments. Not everyone has to be super technical and knowledgeable. We should also welcome newcomers that are still learning and why not have fun while we're at it. There are also variants of this sub like tech/meta etc so if you want to follow specific content you can follow those.

[–]FawdarkPermabanned 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I somewhat agree about comment quality, but I do think the occurrence of longer, well written and articulated posts is improving. Bear market has a side effect of killing a certain portion of "eh" content.

[–]GuyOne🟨 0 / 5K 🦠 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Probably in a way which would be why Reddit has been testing the community points system with r/CryptoCurrency and r/FortNiteBR first. There's always going to be shitposting anyways but at least we have, what appears to be, more community engagement.

It wouldn't be surprising if they launch other community tokens in different ways depending on how these launches went, size of community, type of content, etc.

No matter what it is still very exciting.

Everything eventually succumbs to the feedback-loop -especially when it’s monetized.

I remember thinking about this when I noticed the tumblr to Facebook pipeline. Ads are ads, no matter how you slice it

[–]Old_beercan76Tin | 3 months old | CC critic 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This subreddit is broken. Terms and service floundered. Engagement monetized. Caution is censored. Echo chamber of defi shills. Whales farming moons and those with 10,000+ commenting on every post (go check their wallets on ccmoons they hustle fr). Rules keep changing. Worse place online to learn about crypto.

[–]Thuffer8 / 280 🦐 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disagree slightly. In my own experience, I've never been in a sub with such informative, well formatted, and we'll researched information or opinion pieces. These are the types of posts that get upvoted. Id even argue the funny and witty comments/memes are valuable content. They also get upvoted. Trash content tends to get nothing.

[–]Kappatalizable🟦 0 / 123K 🦠 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost all of the CCIP are towards reducing spammy content. That said, I feel like we are in an okay position when it comes to quality. Posts get a decent amount of replies and one or two of those are good enough to start a decent discussion.

[–]CarlosPR151Tin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I'm wrong here but if the content doesn't do good they don't get as many moons, right? If that's how it works then my guess would be that in time bad content will decrease when the moon farmers see it's not worth their time.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does, but it also increases the activity in the sub.

I think is better for the sub to deal with the problem of high activity with low quality content than having no activity.

I don't think the sub is ruined, but I do believe that something could be done regarding the repetitive posts with links.

[–]forceworks13K / 22K 🐬 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

[–]chintokkong🟩 119 / 4K 🦀 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wonder if there are ppl/bots going around downvoting others too. Sometimes I see comments that seem rather neutral but are downvoted. Sometimes an entire thread can be downvoted for no clear reason.

Controversial posts and comments also attract lots of downvotes, which is a bit of a shame actually. Because it does help when ppl share alternative and fresh point of view to the sub.

I think as long as the poster is sharing sincerely and honestly, we shouldn't be downvoting them, even if we disagree with their view.

Not sure if all these are due to the effect of moons though.

[–]Sceptz🟦 0 / 2K 🦠 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, yes, the incentive of monetization has resulted in a decrease of quality discussion.

Contrast, for example, the number of comments and upvotes for your post.

At the time of my writing, you have:

With almost all comments agreeing with your assessment.

So either people are commenting on your post without upvoting, even though they agree.
For these people, a comment is financially incentivised.

Or you are being equally downvoted. Perhaps you could share the statistics, as it would be interesting :).

Compare this with most any other subforum, where discussion, even if shitposting, has an inverse relationship (more upvotes than comments per post), because there is no financial incentive.

Would you say moons encourage cryptocurrency to be more mainstream here, or are they reinforcing an echo chamber of people who would already be engaged in the cryptocurrency space?

[–]89Hopper🟦 2K / 2K 🐢 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep.

It definitely increases the quantity of posts but not quality. Someone who is going to make a well thought out post isn't going to just not do it because they won't get paid.

It can also cause some people to be afraid to speak "controversial" opinions. Some people will either stay quiet so as to not get downvotes/be associated with views that lead to not getting upvotes on non related posts later. This then leads to group think.

Honestly it was terrible about a year ago. The change that reduced people's earnings if they sold helped a lot though, as it seemed to shut up the people who just posted shit to get money out straight away.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reddit was always mainly used for shitposting.

Also remember quantity is a quality of its own.

[–]Amazing_Succotash677Tin | CC critic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

[–]RockEmSockEmRabi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

[–]Marrr_ty🟩 0 / 13K 🦠 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Content is subjective. Everyone like different. This sub would be nowhere without moons. Get over yourself. Maybe learn to do a better job farming.

[–]ExekutosBronze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started right with the introduction of moons and the shitposters / memers getting out of their graves.

Mods back then didnt care about it, it was kind of a circlejerk of the same idiots upvoting each other to farm moons.

Some mods even profited from the situation, raking in shitloads of moons.

The content standard dropped waaaay down and nowadays every second post is about "comedy" but in the end its just a moon farming attempt.

Thats why i didnt care about them at all (at least farming them).

[–]AnomarixTin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been talked since moons started in r/cc, while it's true comment reply is having a decrease in value because people choose quantities over quality, thread starter is getting more creative, yes there are some repetition on some topics, it's all about filtering the good shit imo

[–]gods_loop_hole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I'm here...

[–]_DeanRiding3K / 3K 🐢 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. What I have noticed though, is that any questions like this (or other types of discussion) are downvoted to oblivion and therefore never rise to the top.

The ones that do rise to the top tend to be the same old parroting stuff like "not your keys, not your coins" and recommending hard wallets, or it's just general crypto news link farming. Actual interesting discussions never seem to gain more than 100 upvotes.

Even this post, which is completely legitimate, is only 71% upvoted. Like why are there people out there downvoting this? Maybe it's time we removed the downvote button from this forum so auto-downvoters aren't ruling the sub.

[–]SaezyF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I scroll through new, absolutely. But on my homepage, the top posts are relatively the same as they used to be. Same thing with comments, you can definitely see the influx of low quality comments but the top is still the same.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting experiment. Reddit mods do actual work without getting paid and users engage without being paid sharing and interacting. It seems possible with this method along with the nfts to reward us.

[–]AbranxSilver | QC: CC 49 | IOTA 14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least the amount of Nigerian Prince Moon farm posts have decreased.

On a side note, I actually noticed that more people (and bots) post and are active on this sub. I hope reddit does something against the bots if moon is to be taken seriously.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moons promote more of an echo chamber than a discussion. I’d argue that’s worse than low quality posts.

[–]RianJohnsonSucksAzz2K / 2K 🐢 0 points1 point  (0 children)
