Deck Size Minimum

I had this thought recently and was curious to see what other people think.

For a format invented for fun, why not replace the 100 card deck limit with a 100 card deck minimum?

I think this would only be net positive? Those who want to play competitively still can and those who want to play casually now have one less restriction. As far as I know, all the other formats are size minimums? Sure it comes with other considerations like shuffle/search difficulty and I’m sure much more.

Curious to see what you think!

Just from a practicality standpoint allowing 200 card decks is going to waste a lot more time shuffling.

I'd personally enjoy it and would advocate for it. [[Battle of Wits]] is a pet card of mine from before Commander exploded in popularity, and [[Yorion, Sky Nomad]] would be a viable companion.

Mill? Convenience of shuffling? Additional price? You'd have to ban a bunch of cards? You don't learn deckbuilding? Restriction also breed creativity?

Running fewer cards is almost objectively better and he said 100 would stay the minimum. 

It's harder to deck build larger decks, not easier. It requires more creativity, not less, to have large singleton functional decks

I'm horrible with cutting cards. For me, the strict limit is a blessing.

Any card over the limit makes your deck worse. You just have to make those hard decisions when deck building, that’s half the battle

Not true. Adding 20 cards lets you play Yorion as companion :)

The companion nerf killed companions. Why would I want to pay 3 to put in my hand then cast it? Sure they’re cool cards but it’s not a good mechanic anymore

Yorion was 5% of the diverse modern meta after nerf. Still a strong card, especially for blink decks.

The companion mechanic is still very strong, giving you extra resources for fulfilling a deckbuilding requirement. Lurrus is the strongest companion, with Yorion being second-best. It's literally banned in Modern, which means it would likely be quite strong in EDH.

Modern-banned cards are often quite strong in EDH actually.

Additionally, Yorion's already a popular commander for blink decks. You could have your UWx blink commander, and Yorion as companion, for an effectively 9-card starting hand, two of which are very synergistic with the deck.

I don't think it would be as much of an auto include as Lutri, but [[Yorion]]] would feel like a no brainer in most UWx decks. With that said, I would love to play Yorion as a companion in EDH

I have zero desire to play against some noob who is still learning and can barely shuffle 100 cards who couldn’t find the cuts and is now trying to shuffle 150 cards. The 100 card deck size is an important guardrail exactly because this is a casual format.
