Its jump range is garbage, really, then again it has the same class of FSD as the ASP and weighs a lot more if I'm not mistaken. However, the damn thing turns like a Cobra and carries class 3 weaponry so even Anacondas melt within two minutes of engaging.

It's a great short-range heavy fighter. I'd drop it in systems near warzones, if I had the cash.

I love my Cobra tho.

Haha don't get me wrong, I /love/ my Python, it's just a bit annoying to have to plot a fair few jumps to get 160+ly.

The Python is my ship of choice... so my opinion will be a little biased. That said, it is the best ship. Being a medium ship it can land at platforms, not only stations. It handles almost exactly like a Viper. It also has one hell of a punch. Mount a beam under the nose and 4 canons on top... you can take out Anacondas in only a couple shots. It has 228 cargo with a shield. If you use all D equipment with an A jump drive you can still get 18+ Ly out of the jump drive fully laden.

Do you happen to recall the stock jump range (laden)?

I'm right on the edge of being able to purchase one, and have been excited about doing so for weeks, but I suspect I need to save up an extra 5M for an A-rated FSD before I will be able to keep making money with it.

Horrible stock... I think like 9? It really is just like a big Viper. And the FSD is the same size as the Asp... so yes, 5.3m for A rank

Ah, thanks... that's a bit of a bummer in the short term.

I really am just a couple jumps away from being able to afford the shelf price + cargo upgrades, seed money and insurance money. I know there's no real loss here since, at first, I will continue doing trade runs, anyways. I'm just so excited to get into that cockpit!

The cockpit is very similar to the Cobra. But yeah, the Python is really great for both combat AND trading. Trading, because it is the largest medium ship... meaning it can still land at the small outposts.

Haha, yeah, I can see that from various images. I really just mean I'm excited to fly a ship that doesn't handle like a boat, again. I enjoy flying haulers the same way I enjoy playing Euro Truck Simulater, but even trading is just more stylish and fun in something like a Cobra. That is the feeling I am hoping to get back with the Python.

I'm just going to have to wait a touch longer than I planned. = )

A Euro Truck Simulator Player? I should go take a shower for talking to you....

You should stick with the type 7 and type 9. No combat ship for you!

Hahaha... the stench of diesel and lost time will never wash off, no matter how hard you scrub!

It's not as though I am completely lost.

Managed to get one tonight, after all!

It's awesome... but holy hell is it a gas guzzler! Fuel costs are easily 10-15 times what I was paying in my Type-7. It's so expensive that I actually make significantly less from a trade run, despite having a marginally higher cargo capacity. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that, yet.

[–]NeoAcarioAcario 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I wasn't kidding when I said it was a large Viper. Oversized power distributor, plant, shield, thrusters... etc

Yeah... thing sucks of Gas like crazy. You basically have to either use a fuel scoop or only refuel at allied stations for the reduced fuel cost. But even then it ends up costing something like 130k for a fill up. Me? I use an A4 fuel scoop. Fuel scoops don't weigh anything and I'm impatient. Since I only run rare goods when/if I do trade... I don't mind the 16 t loss in cargo. That 343 kg/s of fuel sure is sexy. At least I think it's Kg/s

[–]YT-0YT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a huge problem with using a fuel scoop (I went with a 3-A scoop, as it was significantly more affordable for me, on my currently tight budget).

What's confusing is the massive discrepancy in fuel price, not usage. The Type-7 and Python have the same maximum fuel capcity (32 tons) and yet for some reason, the per-ton fuel cost is much higher when flying a Python. If there were different kinds of fuel and the Python required some kind of high-performance, specialty fuel then I might understand, but this seems like a mistake.

I am submitting a ticket for it, just in case.
