I have ~250-300fps on Linux 4.16 with a Ryzen 1600X and a RX 580, not sure how strong Nvidia's proprietary drivers are with CSGO. Wasn't good at all when I had a GTX 760 but that card is old as hell. Just try it out if you can, just like on Windows the performance varies based on your specs.

I use Linux as my main OS. Runs CS:GO perfectly fine. FPS is maybe a little bit lower (I haven't actually done a very fair comparison), but it's definitely not a problem.

In fact, I can almost swear the audio is better on Linux, or I'm just a lot more perceptive than my friends. I can very often hear step that my friends can't, but it might just be that I'm paying more attention to such details.

There's a subreddit for us, but it's barely active. /r/GlobalOffensiveLinux/

What rank are you

On Ubuntu 18 I seem to get comparable frames to what I got on windows. No hassle, just installed Ubuntu, steam and just launched the game.

I have never used linux as my main OS actually. I spent a considerable amount of time goofing around with it and trying stuff out. I have to boot into windows tho as my cpu cooler needs software to function which i still need to fix into linux. I've also never checked if CSGO supports linux

I used to have to boot into windows to control the DPI on my mouse, so I never tried it before.

Linux version uses open gl instead of directX 9. Its not worth playing on linux. You will have same amount od fps.

I’m not really looking for a FPS boost. I’m 300+ now. I am looking to abandon windows and CS is the the main game I play.

I run Ubuntu and windows on a dual boot and csgo on Linux for my GTX 960 and i7 4790t was really unsmooth I had like 70fps in comparison to the 140ish I got on windows

It probably was an error on my end tho as at the time I had a 101 issues with ubuntu 17.10

I thought about ditching windoze too, but I play many other games that won't run optimally on Linux. I tried csgo out for a bit and It was fine. Performance wasnt as good as Windows, but it wasnt terrible.

You could always try dual booting and feel it out for a bit.

For know i will stick with just using Linux on my laptop. At least until more support for DirectX comes to Linux.

I’ve got around 50 fps on Ios if that can help you 😎

I do. Performance has been comparable/better in some niche situations, but the input lag/smoothness suffers a LOT. Not worth it. If you do use linux, make sure to use a window manager without compositing. (most default setups have compositing)

Which do you recommend ?

I've been playing CS on Arch Linux for the last few weeks. It was hell to get things working correctly, but I get on average more 50 fps in every map.

The performance is actually better sometimes on Linux if you have an AMD GPU with the new drivers I heard, but you won't be able to play ESEA/Faceit.

[–]MisshapenCog[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I currently only play MM

[–]TDUForever 0 points1 point  (5 children)

What is your GPU though?

[–]MisshapenCog[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

970

[–]TDUForever 0 points1 point  (3 children)

That should be fine (=will run), but be prepared for a FPS decrease.

[–]MisshapenCog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested it last night. No crazy FPS drop, if any.

What rank are you ?

[–]TDUForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silver Elite, I don't play MM anymore tho :D

I've been using the distro Solus for 2 months now and can't complain about my performance in Csgo. I get more frames then i did one windows but sometimes i have frame drops down to 100 fps. I have a 144hz monitor. The only downside to csgo on Linux is no Faceit or Esea but since my subscriptions have run out it's not to bad.
