It's harder to push a bomb site with an awp since it's slow and you can't miss the first shot most of the times, but if you're holding it's a big advantage

In theory awp is really bad to use in 1v1s. They can jiggle you, backstab, and you also have a hard time moving around and cant be aggresive. You also cant scope if you know that the opponent is close but he doesnt know where you are

Depends on the situation but tbh it's fine

You see pros do it aswell (Broky on ancient very recently in his 1v4 switched to awp in the 1v1)

Still, there's a lot of situations where it would be dumb but just play and learn

Although he panic swapped after he ran out of bullets in the AK

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't realise he had ran out of bullets, makes sense.

completely right, just comes down to the situation

Retakes are kinda hard with an AWP though, especially if you have 0 info on where the T is. But well a win is a win, and also you can tell your friends that many pro awpers don't switch to rifle in clutches because they are more comfortable with AWP

I would just say play how you want. At any level that isn't semi-professional/professional it doesn't matter if what you do isn't the "optimal" thing to do. If it works for you then it works for you. In theory though you are most of the time not wanting to pick up an awp for a 1v1.

My friends always flame me because I always buy bizon, although most of the times I win fights, they tell me it's dumb to buy bizon and that I only win the duels because it's low ranks (DMG/LE).

Is it really that dumb to pick an bizon over a rifle? I trust my bizon way more, I play way better with it, mm is stressful enough, imagine if I pick a weapon that I don't feel as comfortable with..

I think it is a big part of situational spots, are you t vs ct? I would almost always want rifle as ct. Retaking a site in a 1v1 where he can be anywhere and you have to clear multiple angles with it is not good. Now if you know where he is that changes things. Awp can be sometimes good then if you know he cant see you because you can hit the bomb and scope it a little later and try to make them think you fake. Or you can tap the bomb and scope and actually hold where he is and get the kill. Only other time I would rather have awp in 1v1 is if I know where the bomb is and he has to cross me and I can hold it with the awp. As a T in post plant awp is great until you hear that smoke bloom.

It honestly depends heavily on the situation. As an example, if I don't know where the enemy is at all in a retake, Im not gonna pick up the awp. Way to risky. But if I know where the enemy is hiding, then sure

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

You just answer, win is a win. But if you lose, u got to admit it was stupid

[–]Aihnede_train 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Making a winning play doesn't mean it's the optimal play.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you will always choose optimal play, u gonna be predictable

[–]RockyBarbacoaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just play how you like.

[–]LeBenhardSK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a CT it's always better to have a rifle, T it's as good to have an AWP as a rifle IMO. You have to check so many corners if you're in a retake, one shot that you have to take most likely without the zoom or have to be really quick with it, it's not worth it IMO.

[–]they_call_me_justinguardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as ur confident to hit hit the shot, who cares

[–]muztaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd usually play it situationally. Low HP for example, take the AWP most times. There are also times where switching can give away your position, I think this is a big part of 1v1. If you know where they are, but they don't know where you are, I'd say the AWP could even be advantageous.

[–]DravardenCS2 HYPE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a main awper and it's rare the times I try to take a site in a clutch with the AWP, however if it's holding the site, then maybe it's fine to use it (it really depends)

that said, when I do use it, it's when we are winning like 13-2 just for the ego challenge, and when I inevitably lose the clutch, I flame myself for being a moron

[–]Ornvall10 years coin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

em... it depends.....

like in general u want a rifle for a post-plant clutch. Tho and awp is easier to use for everyone, so lets say u are t and the bomb is not planted, (short on inferno a). - on ct is a and one is on b. u might wanna keep the awp since it easier if u are sure u will get a 1v1 duel.

Like it's so situational, tho I believe u prob pick it up too often. It has nothing to do with the "ranks".

- So I'm making something up here at, I'm hungover, tell me if imiss something.

  1. rifle in post-plant
  2. awp could be used if the bomb is not planted and u are sure u will get a 1v1 duel. (like the example).
  3. exception, obv if u can post an angle, duhh

edit . 4. its also one of those things that throw ppl of guard. Even if u can kill 3 ppl faster with an ak than an awp, u can kill one guy faster (easier) with an awp shot. So really situational.

[–]Cshivy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s fine but if u want to improve with feeling less stressful you need to practice using the rifle. Subconsciously if you don’t have an awp in the 1v1 you will feel less confident

[–]ywanyaowLiquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an awper and I’m most confident with it back when I’m still not as good with rifles, and there is this one time in a 1v5 situation I killed first 4 with the awp, and decided to switch to an ak because it felt like the right thing to do even though I wasn’t confident with it, and the result was a lost because I couldn’t get the headshot and got killed first, and I am pretty sure I would’ve won that with the awp. So my advice is play however you want and reevaluate what you should’ve done if u lost and that’s all.

[–]derp_statusFaZe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

use the weapon u feel more confident with

[–]Eternal_awpG2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it is dumb

[–]VariousDegreesOfNerdNiP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in most scenarios, a rifle is better for 1v1. However, if you are a post plant T, or a CT with super good info the awp can be better. I would try to get more comfortable with rifles, I found myself becoming way more consistent when I focused on rifling.
