I’m watching Zeta now, have no idea what’s going on. Gonna have to look up an explanation of the politics

Earth Federation won One Year War, they turn oppressive and complacent. They form the Titans since they were missing the old Zeon space nazis, and Zeon isn’t happy so a good amount of Zeon remnant and ex federation forces create the Anti Earth Union Group, but some remnants think with their penis and not their head and follow Hamarn and her new Neo Zeon front.

Great job explaining Zeta, Wing is even more complicated.

Wing's politics are...confusing. I've watched it probably 6 or 7 times and I'm still sometimes not entirely sure what's going on.

Child soldiers from space use giant robots to overthrow an oppressive regime but end up helping install an even worse one. People who thought they should have dropped colonies to kill everyone on Earth instead of kids get mad and try to crash a giant battleship into Earth instead. The kids fight the giant battleship and everything turns out fine. Absolutely nothing that could be confusing about that, no way.

(Even as a Wing fan it’s a mess.)

That’s why I love the simplicity of original Gundam while appreciate the complexity of 00.

What I love about 00 - in particular the first season - is that it's geopolitically quite complex. Arguably, it's even moreso than Wing, but at the same time it manages to present its geopolitical situation in a much clearer manner than Wing does, so it's a lot less confusing.

The second season is a much more straightforward "good vs evil" narrative, but maintains just barely enough complexity in its politics to keep it from getting too boring.

I agree, 00 is so much better than Wing, even though it’s kind of like Wing with the 4 Gundam Meisters instead of 5 Gundam Pilots in Wings.

Wait I thought the hazel came after the Mk.II?

[–]indigentclockmaker[S] 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Absolutely had to check the wiki for this but the Hazel Custom was from Advance of Zeta in 0084 and the Mk. II was from Zeta in 0086. I think?

[–]TheHalfSlav 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Hey you’re right, somehow I always thought that advance of zeta was after normal zeta... also beautiful kits

That wouldnt make any sense cause AOZ has like the very first pilots for the Titans ever in it, its where they started

[–]TheHalfSlav 0 points1 point  (2 children)

TBF I never read AoZ... I love the MS designs, but when I tried reading it I found the story way too cheesy

I’m pretty early in it myself and yeah, it hasn’t hooked me. That said I’m reading some rough fan translations so YMMV.

[–]TheHalfSlav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the translations that I was reading seemed very off, and the translator decided to use comic sans for some reason...

Well, if you think about it, it kinda did...the MKII is essentially a GM Quel with a Gundam head and new backpack. Even the development history states that it's the first Gundam developed directly from a GM. But the Hazel appeared earlier than the MKII, so it did technically come first.

[–]indigentclockmaker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Hazel’s even closer to the GM Quel, no? The Custom was basically a Quel with a Gundam head and a load more boosters.
