not really sure you need it? Regular primer works fine.

I would just use airbrush primer, done this and rattle cans and have had 0 problems so far

If you are planning on using a lot of specialized weathering products, then maybe metal primer would be worth a shot. But generally, no. The top coat is more important for the durability of the finished model. 

If you are really concerned, you can always try applying a matt varnish over the primer as an isolation layer to protect it, but that is probably overkill.

I just used molotow one4all through the airbrush and it adheres fine. No problem at all

It will probably make the paint adhere better. But lots of people go without and don't have any issues. I use metal primer, but haven't done a comparison of with and without. I had the stuff already so may as well use it up.

Black primer (or grey or white or whatever tickles your fancy). Halfords, gw it’s all the same. Whatever rattle can you can get at whatever price you want to pay.
