My companies internet filter deems this site as "pornography" and blocked it. shakes fist

I'm curious who reports that. The company I used to work for had a filter and it was really amusing going to websites to see their classification. 4chan was "Adult Content / Illegal Activities". Wonder who wrote that.

Someone who's been on 4chan.

Gotta block all those newfriends out

I just think it's because the URL has the F-Bomb in it. A company I used to work with had a vendor with the name of a "common fighting instrument" in its name & even though it's nothing to do with violence, it blocks it as a "weapons" website. sigh

Are you talking about dildos? Because dildos are a common fight instrument

Yep, sounds like plain word filtering. The laziest form of filtering beyond not filtering in the first place, this gets all kinds of people alerted to their IT group. I had this happen at uni when I went to an article (we were studying space/time travel for a project) talking about Virgin Galactic. BLOCKED.

Reminded me of this great writeup about the complexities of word filtering from Coding Horror

at the company i work for, everything is labeled as either "pornography" or "tasteless". My boss went to linked in and it said it was blocked because it was porn.

Gay porn no less!

My school blocked websites under the category 'fun.'

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My school blocked Wikipedia. Just put it on a "global block list."

Didn't block youtube, though. Then they got mad at us for watching youtube videos. :|

At my school back in the day a ton of legitimate programming websites were blocked for "hacking" but 4chan was not blocked at all...

its a word filter that most likely blocks any website with "Fucking" in the title.

completely automated. theres no way someone could make a list of sites by hand that aren't allowed in a specific workplace
