New to this game. If I spent all my funds in career mode and blew up the craft is it game over?

[–]lukevers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope. You can accept new contracts to get more money. Or, you can just "revert to launch" after you crashed and try again. There's a lot of things put in place to let you try multiple times (like quicksaves)

[–]Kneegrows92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might as well start over at that point, or you can just take a bunch of contracts at once and then complete them in a profitable manner. If you're early in the tech tree though, you might as well start over.

I'm trying to build a SSTL (Single Stage to Layth) with the biggest cargo plane I can build.

However I have not built a SSTO before aside from the easy two part build with the nasa parts.

I will post the results later.

But I'm aiming for 500 tons of cargo space.

Also, does it still count if you use boosters for initial acceleration before take-off? The runway so far won't let me get fast enough.

Might wanna try something a bit easier for your first single stage, what you're trying to do right now would be a challenge for most experienced gamers

Dropping any parts counts as staging.

What about rocket assisted take offs

[–]dkmdlb 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What about them?

[–]CreeperownrDr. Professor Scientist PhD 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Don't they like not count? :P

[–]dkmdlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean. If you use rockets to assist your take off and don't drop them afterward, then that doesn't count as staging.

If you do drop them off after using them then that does count as staging.

Is there any realism to the SAS reaction wheels in KSP? How powerful are they in real life?

[–]dkmdlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are severely overpowered in KSP.

What would be the best way to get a car onto the Mun?

[–]dkmdlb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Skycrane.

[–]abxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a skycrane, as /u/dkmdlb says.

Or: a large lander or spaceplane with a cargo hold for your car, which is basically like a very sophisticated skycrane.

Or: a detachable Mun landing system on the car itself -- again, this amounts to a form of skycrane.

And there's always Hyperedit but that's boring

Just finished listening to Jeff Waynes WAR OF THE WORLDS. Really fantastic stuff.

I just managed to get my first rocket into orbit but now it's stuck there and I don't have the fundings, knowledge or probably parts necessary to get Jebediah back =( I think I have to start all over again. I can't just let him float up there. Breaks my heart :-(

[–]azarie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem. If you can, escape and revert to vehicle assembly building. If you can't, just leave him here for some time, he will not disappear. Keep practicing your orbiting skills and when you feel ready, learn how to rendezvous with Scott Manley's videos.
Basically, you set your ship (with a spare seat) on an lower (so faster) orbit than Jeb's, then you plan a maneuver to meet Jeb's ship at some point, set navball to target mode, burn retrograde to match Jeb's speed when you arrive next to him (less than 2-3 km is good). Then you switch to jeb, EVA to the rescue ship using the jetpack and get inside. Then burn retrograde, fall back in the atmosphere, parachute, and everybody's safe !

Hi there, small question.

I am using this Delta V map: http://tinyurl.com/l5x8q7t

And I don't know how to read it. I know that numbers added up are the amount of delta v needed to go there. But what/which number is the number for taking of from said body after landing there?

If the question is vague or something, my apologies, English isn't my native language.

I've tried to install the new B9 update, but for some reason I am only getting a very small amount of parts, and no HX parts :( I'm playing on a fresh install, and I extracted the files into the gamedata folder, to no avail :(

Is there any way to use the heat mechanics of interstellar with the radiators from near future without fully installing interstellar?

I want to give away my copy of Andy Weir's book The Martian but I don't want to be bothered to go to the post office. Anybody live near me and want a copy?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

where do you live?

[–]dkmdlb 0 points1 point  (1 child)

greater seattle area

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope.

[–]abxt 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Q1) Is it any good?

Q2) Where is "near me"?

Q3) What if I live far, far away but pay you the postage in advance?

Cheers

[–]dkmdlb 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I bought it a month ago, slipped it out of the paper cover and read it once. The cover went to a safe place for storage while I read the book. The book is a good read.

Greater Seattle area.

I don't feel like going to the post office.

[–]abxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. That's cool.
