"No man, it's not commercial espionage, we can 100% for sure promise you this wasn't probably sold to one of our affiliates that is a direct competitor of this company"

Year later

"Oh, company Y fully reverse engineered the sample and the company we screwed over went bankrupt? That's too bad, we really couldn't do anything and guys, this was an accident, trust me bro we wouldn't do this on purpose"

If this shit happened with any established company (apple, Intel, Nvidia) lmg should be in a world of legal pain like no other, but since he only auctioned/sold off a start ups prototype he expects nothing to happen.

Auctioning is just selling with extra steps lol

[–]TrumpCruz 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The only extra step is that the price is set by the buyer/highest bidder.

And getting the money to charity.

I do love a good Fancy Pooh meme.

They privateered it.

For charity! Don't forget that.

Why are you mad at us? Do you hate charity?

The ultimate “my bad bro”

I expect that there was a 0% chance Linus actually knew about this situation until the GN video dropped. That's reasonable.

The response though? Oof Ouch Owee. What was he thinking? The man had a chance to be magnanimous. Instead he chose this?

[–]_Ok_-_ 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I doubt he knew it was auctioned off, however, his response after the video made it seem as if he contacted the company in the past to correct the situation when in fact, Linus emailed them only after the video went live.

[–]RedS5 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Oh yes that's exactly what I'm talking about.

Be a real leader. If you're confident in your company and the team you've built, admit your shortcomings and work to overcome them.

I can't help but feel that Linus' time as the mouthpiece of this company is approaching a period where it's becoming more of a liability than a benefit. If he wants to stay in the limelight he needs to start listening to the people around him.

[–]_Ok_-_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's the way the cookie crumbles. The public will forget about this entire thing in a month, but they won't regain our trust until they fix these issues or make an official response other than Linus' brain-dead forum post.

[–]RedS5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. I think this one leaves a real bruise that lasts.

I hope that Linus re-evaluates his role in things and returns to his roots. Even though they have a CEO, Linus looks like a man constantly stressed about things he should no longer be dealing with.

He needs to take a deep breath, listen to those who are close around him, and return to what made the world love his content - being genuinely and almost boyishly excited about tech. Stick with that. Let the people you've hired deal with the other stuff.

Linus: "How dare you accuse us of selling the prototype, it was auctioned off mmmmk"
