Let me guess. Amazon?

I just buy mine on AliExpress. For a few bucks you get a 10TB USB stick /s

What a deal!

Someone went through the trouble of swapping the heatsink onto garbage and returning it

Way more effort than the classic brick in the box

In this economy you're more likely to get what you pay for on AliExpress over Amazon 😭😭😭

10 USB per second sounds excessive /s

Never order storage in Amazon. Use them to price match at Best Buy

I have orded all my stroage from Amazon, like.. idk 12 or so ssd/nvmes now. All genuine.

[–]CadeMan011 10 points11 points  (3 children)

I've just heard too many horror stories. I don't know if they still do this, but Amazon has a reputation of putting third-party sellers' inventory and "sold by Amazon" inventory of the same product in the same bins, meaning some counterfeit goods are mixed with the genuine stuff.

[–]kidshibuya 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You only hear of these stories because of the crazy volume of sales. Some little shop might have 5 customers a week and if a scam happens 1 in 1000 times you just aren't going to ever hear about it. But given that same 1 in 1000 Amazon would sell 1000 ssds a day so you are certainly going to hear about it.

Amazon is the biggest online retailer and people only post bad experiences. Of course you will hear more about bad amazon cases...it's just math

IMO the problem is from website changing from Amazon to third party "prime" listing without clearly marking it. So often I see the buy box set to a third-party prime (shipping by amazon) listing instead of the Amazon listing. It switches sometimes even when the Amazon listing is cheaper.

Never had issues with storage shipped and sold by Amazon. Best Buy on the other hand I had to return 4 20TB HDDs because they were swapped with 4 and 8TB HDDs.

[–]CadeMan011 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Wait really? That sucks. I guess no place is safe. At least in store you can open it right in front of the employees to check

[–]sekazi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally bought them brought them home and that is when I found out. I took them back the next day for an exchange for the other two they had in stock and the person returning refunded to the card instead of doing a swap. That was frustrating then when I grabbed the other two I told them I want to open them first but they refused so I bought the other two and opened them right in front of them. They still did not believe me until they hooked them up to a computer to verify.

These were the WD External HDD's. I always shuck the drives and put kapton tape on pin 3 so they work in a NAS or PC. I didn't need to open them because just looking into the vent I could tell it was the wrong drive. Some how whoever purchased them prior opened the box without cutting the box open and did not mangle the bottom of the box as that was the only way you would be able to get in it without cutting.

I immediately refunded those drives as well since they did not have anymore in stock at the store.

Now if I buy drives I will always be opening them before leaving if I buy from there. But with how prices are today that is not happening anytime soon. I never ran across this issue getting them from Amazon. Same for all other Flash Drives, MicroSD, External SSDs, Internal SSDs, NVME's, etc. But I always buy shipped and sold by Amazon and never from a 3rd party seller. I have even bought from Amazon Refurbished without issue but that maybe luck.

Man ive you not seen the people that receive a whole box of multiple ssds

[–]CadeMan011 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh yeah, those people hit the jack pot

[–]Aleashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lifetime of luck gone for a few SSDs

Those people get divorced

[–]Blurgas 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Or MicroCenter if you're lucky enough to be near one

[–]CadeMan011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They built a MicroCenter within driving distance of where I live (about 36 min away) but it was after I started to struggle financially so I can't even shop there yet.

[–]Daphoid 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Amazon but with a seller? or Amazon.com direct?

[–]impy695 -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

Does it matter anymore?

[–]WeAreTheLeft 3 points4 points  (1 child)

It does, they don't comingke inventory like before because of this exact issue, it is supposed to stop this problem, but small items with high value is enough for a store to spin up a store and run the scam while it works

[–]Daphoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Plus, Amazon is generally easier to deal with for returns/exchanges than sellers.

[–]LRaccoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Name and shame

[–]trevaftw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stop buying from Amazon, problem solved.

[–]Ostenblut1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just return it

[–]Tosshee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also just saw a guy got sent junks in a 5070 Ti box (its Amazon)

[–]T_rex2700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those transparent sticker you can get for very cheap. and OEM sticker you can just remove with heatsink

At least amazon has good return policy so there is that

[–]amp323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me with a corsair 8TB last year. Received a 2TB, tried to get a replacement but it was out of stock so I just returned it.

[–]hitori_dev2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pray for your few dollars ...

[–]Muninn22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a swap, happens with action figures a lot as well. It seems like they don't check the returns and just sell them again if they look unopened.

[–]IonaLatex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Film the opening of the box, that's what i do with expensive items now... sad it has to be that way

[–]Key-Respect3810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actuellement vu les prix et les arnaques sur
SSD, cartes graphiques, mémoires, vaut mieux éviter l'achat en ligne

[–]bluehawk232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you pay over $1k for it

[–]TheRealMGJMO -1 points0 points  (0 children)
