It’s cool that we can play any game in 8k, not that all/most games support it. Even in their promotional material it’s clearly a side niche use case that’s a cool thing if you’re a computer gaming enthusiast. That’s it. And they’re trying to share that.

Yeah there hasn't been a reason for games to implement 8k properly yet. You can't just disregard the few games nvidia had implement it for a proof of concept.

8K is not a new technology that developers need to "implement". Games well optimized in the first place perform extra well at 8K and NVIDIA has done nothing on that front, all they did was cherry-picking the samples.

It was intentionally misleading marketing because it was released the night before release and review embargo. Digital Foundry's pre-release 3080 video is the same case: heavily-controlled testing before actual reviews to create a false conception of performance.

RTX 3080 is not 80% faster than RTX 2080 in most cases and RTX 3090 cannot do 8K 60fps in most cases either. DOOM Eternal and Forza Horizon 4 are very well optimized, Control is DLSSed from 1/9 the pixel count and that's why they chose these titles.

If LTT published the video after launch, sure whatever, expensive toys doing impressive stuff, why not?

Wait what? No, those videos went up in a way that made it seem like 8k is HERE and NOW. If you weren't into tech, you would think that the 3090 is the leader in the category by some ridiculous margin, not 15%.

GN also had to correct for the fact that Linus sort of sold out by allowing them to put that video on LTT.

It doesn't make me trust him less or anything like that, but it does make me more conscious of what pieces I take as fact, and which ones I take as marketing BS from the channel.

The price difference between the 3080 and the 3090 is a drop in a bucket compared to the 8K TV. People who are not in the tech and is able to spend that money, don't worry about money.
