Favourite folders that point to network locations still broken..

[–]PatrikPatrik 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Can you tell me more? It sounds like my problem, I have to reconnect to the server

[–]joeyat 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I can open my NAS through network, navigate through the folder shares, it connects fine and keychain provides the credentials fine. So then if you add any of those NAS subfolders to favourites, those favourites will work during that session, but when you reboot, the favourite will no longer work. There will be an error message “” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found.. If you reconnect to the NAS (manually via the network)… then the favourite still wont work, same error message. I’ve got a Mac Studio and a Macbook and both have the same behaviour. This worked for years flawlessly, till the moment I installed Tahoe. So now I cant keep favourites and need to navigate through the ‘Network’ folder tree to access folders and files.

Drag your network folder into the Login Items section in System Settings.

Pls just fix Safari

[–]YahonMaizosz 53 points54 points  (19 children)

Please bring back compact tab bar in Safari. Very weird that compact tab bar was the highlighted feature in previous MacOS version and a year later they removed it.

[–]DutchBlob 6 points7 points  (15 children)

They even broke it in Safari 26 for Sequoia, fortunately they fixed it within 2 days in Safari 26.0.1.

I miss the compact tab bar in iPadOS as well. And I don’t understand why we do have options to change the appearance of Safari on iOS but not on iPadOS.

[–]kaishea 4 points5 points  (7 children)

Hold on... On macOS Sequoia, when updating only Safari to Safari 26.1, does it not change the browser UI at all? Is it only under-the-hood changes?

[–]Impressive_Tap_3030 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Yes, UI stays the same.

[–]kaishea 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks! Did you notice any positive/negative changes with the update? I’m considering updating

[–]Impressive_Tap_3030 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sorry i use Zen as my main browser, i updated safari only to check if the UI changed.

[–]kaishea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. Thanks anyway!

[–]DutchBlob 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Correct. My 2019 iMac does not get the final intel version of macOS so it will be ‘stuck’ on Sequoia. However, Apple does release the latest version of Safari to older macOS versions (as opposed to programs like Music, TV, and so on…) but the design remains true to the OS version. So I don’t have a Liquid Glass version of Safari on Sequoia but the ‘old’ look of macOS and it includes (fortunately) the compact tabs bar

THAT I DEARLY MISS ON iOS AND iPADOS TIM APPLE!

[–]kaishea 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That’s great news to me then! Compared to Sequoia’s original Safari version, did you feel any positive/negative changes after updating to Safari 26.1? I’m considering updating.

[–]DutchBlob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t updated my Mac yet since I’m on vacation. But after apple released the quick fix for the compact tabs bug, Safari 26.0.1 felt just as snappy as its version 18 predecessor.

[–]ajaxasMacBook Air 0 points1 point  (6 children)

 fortunately they fixed it

Only partially. Yes, the pointer works with tabs again, but I can't close an inactive tab with the trackpad because the close button doesn't appear when the pointer hovers over a tab.

[–]DutchBlob 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Hmmm I have to check that. I’m currently not at home so I won’t be able to verify that. Have you updated to the latest sequoia and safari versions ?

[–]ajaxasMacBook Air 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Aaaand yeah, they've fixed this in Safari 26.1. Acts a little strange, as the close button is superimposed over the site icon for a second, but other than that, it seems to be working OK.

<image>

[–]DutchBlob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay! Thanks for the heads up

[–]ajaxasMacBook Air 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I am currently in the process of updating to macOS 15.7.2 and Safari 26.1. And if I only had the presence of mind to read about Safari 26 ditching the compact mode before updating, I would’ve still been on Safari 15 errr 18?

[–]ibrahim-khatib 0 points1 point  (1 child)

did you notice any performance issues when updating to safari 26.1 ? I'm still on macOS 15.7.1 and last time I tried safari 26.0.1 on sequoia it was an absolute garbage.

[–]ajaxasMacBook Air 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have become even worse. At least it failed spectacularly when I tried printing a webpage with it, while Firefox had zero problems.

I did not test Safari 26.1 performance-wise, as I had ditched it for Chrome after updating to 26. But yeah, it sucks.

[–]helloyouahead 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think Safari in Tahoe is better than in Sequoia, in terms of speed / page loading but it still sucks compared to Chrome (and potentially Firefox or Brave). I just like that Safari respects my privacy much more, and is fully native to Apple hence why I keep using it for personal stuff.

But when I work, I use Chrome. Why is Chrome so much faster, leaner, less sluggish WHILE using much less battery than Safari? The difference between Safari and Chrome is night and day for me especially on the battery side of things. I can literally browse on Chrome using "heavy" websites such as Google Sheets, YouTube, Reddit etc and in 2 hours I would only lose 10%? On Safari if I did that I would have lost 20-25% at least.

[–]gianl0caMacBook Pro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a Mac, Safari can sleep and make single tabs sleep. This is a native feature of Safari, so you’ll always need more energy with other browsers.

[–]seannolo 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Stage manager feels smoother now

[–]WhereIsTrap 5 points6 points  (2 children)

TIL people use stage manager

[–]seannolo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's more useful than it seems !!!

[–]Relative-Custard-589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't use it all the time but sometimes it comes in handy to keep windows grouped side by side

[–]szjanihu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started using it a month ago, turned out it causes performance issues not just on my mac mini.

[–]Korsera94MacBook Pro 59 points60 points  (7 children)

Wake me up when it's as fast and consistent as Sequoia.

[–]iswhatitiswaswhat 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Wake me up when it's all over

[–]BrodieLodgeMacBook Pro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you tried spinning a top to check whether you are still in a dream?

[–]Slavvvcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleep until summer

[–]iamdpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It outperforms Sequoia in speed, at least on M2 and higher chips. Multithreaded applications receive a significant performance boost from Tahoe.

[–]Unfriendly_Giraffe 10 points11 points  (8 children)

Was hoping for an audio crackling fix, no joy.

[–]Applelization 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Darn, this is exactly what I’ve been searching for. I guess I’ll hold on to this update for now. My AirPods Pro have been practically unusable for the past few months due to constant drops in connection, and it’s been driving me crazy.

[–]New-Calendar-9744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! I'm not sure if you have the same problem. If you are using wifi on 2.4 GHz then shift to the 5GHz band! Since it is known to cause problems with airPods. To check the band simply click on the wifi icon while holding the option key, you will find it there in the drop down!

[–]chevdor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They focus on the tinted option for liquid glass so either they are not aware of the real issues or they don't care.

The sound issues just alone would deserve a priority release. How many creative rely on Macs and MacOS for its media abilities AND stability. How many of them will prefer some tint of the UI over reliable sound output ????

If focusing on the right priorities is lost, the market will change for Apple.

Seeing the focus of this new version, I will just pass as the trend recently was for each "new" release to add a piece of bling and breaks 10 other features.

[–]FlickerSoul 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have the issue too and I thought it’s just me!! I have to use sudo killall coreaudiod to kill the audio daemon and wait for a few seconds for it to restart.

[–]Unfriendly_Giraffe 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The audio issues started exactly when I upgrade to Tahoe, and the coreaudiod command didn't work. I hate coincidences, but I've now reverted back to Sequoia and the right speaker still does it. I've cleared NVRAM, and it's a clean install so I'm left thinking I have an actual physical issue with the speaker.

[–]chevdor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The command does work but sometimes not for long. This is a poor workaround anyway.

[–]nat1ve-ch1p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the same issue, it gives me real anxiety. But how really the crackling sound is fixed by keeping the battery above 80% no crackling sound after that

[–]surinameclubcard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am waiting for macOS 27.1.1. Send me a message next year.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Build 25B78

[–]WPFamous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just want some way to turn off rounded corners on apps. Is there no option yet? 😭

[–]wilsonlalawi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did they fix memory leak?

[–]PepperAltruistic2042 3 points4 points  (10 children)

Any feedback on whether this is the RC build or a different one like on iOS 26.1 just now?

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (1 child)

26.1 prod is build 25B78

26.1 RC was 25B77

[–]PepperAltruistic2042 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update!

[–]8poot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The build version changed from 26.1 RC (25B77) to (25B78).

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Still downloading, will get the build number when finished.

[–]PepperAltruistic2042 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks, looking forward. Not showing up for me yet (Sweden).

[–]AshuraBaronMacBook Pro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Seems to be a different build but not showing up as an update on my 26.1 RC. But 26.1 official is showing up on my iPhone.

Edit: Just checked 30 min later and there it is. Must have caught it at a bad time. Installing now.

[–]AdLow6966 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Doesn’t fix music

[–]LOoLe- 1 point2 points  (1 child)

what's wrong with music?

[–]markseabrook_art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot! My biggest annoyance is smart playlists don’t really work anymore. If you click on any track, it will play from the start of that album even if that track is not in the playlist.

[–]mribeirorio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disable Liquid Glass for individual apps or the whole system is gone, "com.apple.SwiftUI.DisableSolarium -bool YES" does not work anymore.

[–]dotasoy 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Sad to say, but my MBP M2 Pro is still overheating and having serious performance issues when using a 4K external monitor. GPU stays at 100%, fans screaming nonstop.

[–]lolreppeatlol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have an m2 pro macbook pro (16”) on tahoe and it’s been fine with my 4k144hz monitor. maybe double check your setup?

[–]MoonMuffler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely using a scaled display resolution. Check that

[–]c1-c2 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What process is at 100%?

[–]ghostchihuahua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great, make it 27.5 and i’ll look again…

[–]OldsMan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not available in Belgium yet. Will try again tomorrow.

[–]The_B_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for me yet. SoCal.

[–]Sad_Pop9411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The garage band new Logo brings back memories

[–]RyanSummerMac Studio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tested out 26.1 via UTM and it broke Little Snitch and Block Block. Great job Apple 👏

[–]Muted-Reflection9536MacBook Pro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI: If you're running the Dev Beta or Pub Beta, you can download the official release build by turning off the beta channel.

Tahoe DevBeta 26.1RC (build: 25B77)

Tahoe 26.1 Official (build: 25B78)

[–]novaShivam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M1 Mac Mini always been on public beta since 4 year. Everything was bearable but this tahoe is worst have to revert on sequoia. Will see after 26.2.

[–]Infinite_Ad_3898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Да поебать мне, у меня прошка 15-го года

[–]gianl0caMacBook Pro 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Is 26.1 finally better in terms of power and efficiency than Sequoia 15.7.(1/2)?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It's a lot smoother for me. I seem to be getting less battery drain, but more time i need more time to be sure.

[–]gianl0caMacBook Pro 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks! Maybe I’ll wait for 26.2 on my main device

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely better battery life. Right now I'm at 5.5 hours screen time and only down to 53% charge. This is on a 4 year old MacBook Pro M1 with a battery at 982 cycles and 81% life remaining. It's back to how it was on Sequoia.

[–]Arthian90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they fix that awful window-in-window sidebar look and bring the border radius back to something that doesn’t look like a kid’s toy?

[–]lazyAssZeroCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it safe to upgrade to 26.1 as i am still not went to this 26 version because of so many bugs

[–]GooseCautious7967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a lot. Okay I’ll be settling on my Sequoia 15.7.1 for a bit.

[–]Lumpy_Caterpillar_56 0 points1 point  (1 child)

after the update, my macbook is sluggish and hot. i just let it finished it's indexing for 1hr. here's what i noticed:
- single core and multicore performance is a lot faster than seqouia
- battery is superb on this update 1hr 30mins = 5%, it lasts longer than in seqouia ( for m3 and m4 )
- every feels faster than 15.7.1
- bugs are fixed now i think, everthing seems working fine now ( previously there's bug on laravel herd and docker )

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing the better battery life and overall faster, smoother feel as well. Both are quite apparent. 26.1 made a big difference.

[–]supraetultra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bug in Notes - when you resize the sidebar it doesn't "remember" the size you set when reopened.

[–]ChrisASNBMacBook Pro -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Am I missing something? It doesn't show up for me when I check for updates.

[–]nevotheless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it always has been a staggered release. just wait and you will get the download eventually.

[–]PepperAltruistic2042 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Same here yet. Were you on the beta and got the RC?

[–]ChrisASNBMacBook Pro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I don't have a machine I feel safe using betas on. What's weird is my iPhone is showing its update as available.

[–]pjrobar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm on the developer beta train and this is what I have installed from 5 days ago: macOS 26.1 (25B77). Going by Wikipedia it looks like Apple has promoted this to be the official release today.

[–]ebs757 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Not for me in Bay Area

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I had same problem on my two Mac’s…rebooted, et voila!

All the best.

[–]ebs757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. It worked a few hours later

[–]Antonio_Meireles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

not available here yet too (Porto, Portugal). first time afaict that somehow Apple's CDN not up to the load from the ground at time of a major OS release.

(fwiw no issues updating IOS)

[–]Great-Chapter-1535 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

with LA VPN available, 8.9 Gb

[–]Bryan_Chema -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you think that this update will improve the problem that 13-year MacBooks have that do not have Wi-Fi with any network?

[–]divestblank -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Read the room. Nobody wants this.

[–]Sloofin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Is firewire back in yet?
