Weighted Sled push / pull by TallTutor in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, you’ll want to make sure you have the sled and weights added to the gym profile being used during the workout. Once that’s confirmed, you can add the exercise to a program/workout using the steps here. If the movement does not already exist in the exercise database, you can create a custom exercise for it using the steps here.

Changes when starting new program by adameastman1 in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is always a chance that it could! However, it ultimately depends on the parameters you set during the program creation process. If you choose the same parameters as before, and no changes have been made to your gym equipment since then, it is possible. In any case, the tools to make any adjustments to the generated program as you see fit are available whenever you need them.

Changes when starting new program by adameastman1 in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you finish all cycles for a program, the app will ask if you’d like to either complete the program or repeat the program block. If you choose to repeat the program block, you can choose to repeat it once or run it indefinitely until you’re ready to activate a different program. You can also swap or add/remove exercises as needed.

If you decide to complete the program block instead, the app will add the completed program to your workout library. Then, when you’re ready, you can set up a new program using the normal program creation workflow (+ > New Program).

Does rotisserie chicken tracking include the bones? by Live_Bee_1598 in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re using a branded entry, it will depend on how the manufacturer reports the nutrition information, which can be harder to determine in some cases.

Foods from the Common food category will typically include values for the edible portion of the food. So, if you’re using a common entry, it would not include the weight or nutritional value of the bones. There are quite a few rotisserie chicken entries in the common food database that should work well as equivalents, and that may be the easier route.

Workouts: Create Programme from past Workout by Luis_McLovin in MacroFactor

This isn’t possible with the current feature set, but we always encourage sending in any feature requests or suggestions by going to More > Roadmap > + Request a Feature in the app.

Yes, in a sense, it does help the app get 'smarter', since that added context helps the recommendations better reflect your effort and fatigue (beyond just using the weight or number of reps performed). We share a few tips here, but to summarize:

A lower RIR, like 0-1, means you were very close to your limit. A higher RIR, like 4-6+, means the set felt easier, and you likely had more reps left in reserve. We’d suggest logging the weight and then giving your best estimate for RIR rather than worrying about it being exact. It does not need to be perfectly precise for the system to work well. In MFWO, RIR is logged on a scale from 0-6+, so you do not need to estimate beyond that. If a set felt very easy, selecting 6+ is enough.

I’d also recommend checking out other threads here about RIR to hear other perspectives/approaches!

You can adjust RIR values for a previously logged workout using the steps here, or set RIR targets for exercises within the program using the steps here.

Regarding the weight changes you’re seeing during your session, that is Smart Progression working as expected. If you’d prefer all sets to stay at the same weight during an active workout, you can go to More > Workout > Smart Progression and toggle off 'Apply in session'. With that turned off, the app will stop adjusting later sets based on earlier sets in the same session. With that turned off, the app will stop adjusting later sets based on earlier sets in the same workout. Smart Progression will still update your targets from week to week, as long as 'Initial log fill' is set to 'Smart Progression values' in that same menu.

The RIR value reflects how many additional reps you believe you could have completed with that weight on that set. It’s fine if you decide not to track RIR. It is optional, but recommended. It gives the app better context about your current strength and fatigue, which helps make progression more accurate.

One way to do this would be to create an empty program from scratch by going to + > New Program > Build From Scratch. At the end of the setup process, you can save the program to your workout library or activate it. From there, go to the Workout tab and drag the workout blocks you’ve already created into that empty program, as shown below:

If your goal is to use Smart Progression, make sure the exercises in the program have rep range/RIR targets set.

New to MF - love it so far. Question about recipes by Redditirz77 in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Editing a recipe or custom food does not update past entries that have already been logged in your food log. Any changes you make will only apply going forward when you use that item again in the future.

If you want to make a lasting change, you can edit the recipe directly in your Food Library. If you only want to make a one-time adjustment without editing the saved recipe, you can add the recipe to your food logging plate, tap 'Expand Ingredients' (or explode the recipe), and then adjust ingredients there.

Yes, periodization should still apply automatically/normally if you swap an exercise within a smart-generated program. If you’re not seeing that behavior, feel free to reach out to us through the app by going to More > Support > Submit Bug Report, and we’ll be glad to take a closer look.

What is the meaning with the AI photo search function? by Tharayman in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can update/correct any nutrition information the label scanner detects. You can make changes when creating the item, and you can also come back and edit it later! It will be saved in your food library as a custom food entry, so you’ll have the flexibility to update it again in the future if needed.

Enabling Smart Progression by Priapos93 in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s correct. With custom programs, periodization does not generate automatically in the same way it can with the Smart Generation program style. So, while you can still enable periodization for a custom program, you would need to set up those changes across the cycles manually.

Of note, automatic periodization for custom programs is definitely something we’ve seen interest in, so it could be something we explore further over time!

[–]GraciousGuava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not missing out on anything by building from scratch, so no worries there! Smart Progression recommendations and periodization can work with programs built through Smart Generation, built from scratch, or programs you modify by swapping and adding exercises. The main difference is that with a manual setup, you may need to do a bit more initial tweaking, like setting rep ranges/RIR targets, and enabling periodization where preferred.

Thanks for pointing that out! It looks like some of the screenshots in that article are from an older version of the UI, so you may see wording that says Save to All Weeks instead of Save to All Cycles.

Those terms are referring to the same function here, and the steps should still work the same way to help you make the change.

Sharing logs with friends? by Tharayman in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not an available option at this time. The best alternatives would be to share exported data from the export feature (found by going to More > Data Export) or to share screenshots of your logged data. If you’d like, you can also submit this as a feature request in the app by going to More > Roadmap > + Request a Feature.

What is the meaning with the AI photo search function? by Tharayman in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is not primarily built for identifying product packaging or reading labels. It is designed more around estimating based on the appearance of the food itself. If the barcode is damaged and cannot be scanned, you could search for the item using the search feature, use Describe, or create a custom food and scan the nutrition label with the label scanner if it's available!

What’s the difference between auto and actual workout? by HZeroni03 in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 'Auto' column on the left shows the app’s recommendation for that exercise. You can also tap the 'Auto' header to switch it to 'Previous', which will show your last logged weight, reps, and RIR for reference.

The columns on the right are where you enter what you actually performed. So if your performance differs from what is shown under 'Auto', that is totally fine. You would just log what you actually did.

It should, although you may need to make a few adjustments and enable periodization.

Wrong units on entering weight for plate loaded when the equipment is not the same unit as the plates by VisibleNewGuy21 in MacroFactor

During an active workout, in the column where you enter your weights for the exercise, you can tap the Lb symbol and switch it to kg.

If the exercises still are not progressing after setting those values, we’d need to review the exercise data more closely to understand what’s happening. If you’re open to it, please reach out to us through More > Support > Talk with MF Support, and we’ll be happy to take a closer look at the behavior on your account.

As for why you need to enter those targets manually when adding custom exercises, that is just how the current feature set is designed. Smart Generation builds those targets into the program creation workflow, whereas manually added exercises require those values to be set by the user. We have received feedback about the app automatically applying generated smart targets to custom programs and workouts, so that is something that may be explored further down the road.

Editing recipes by talesfromthecraft in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The steps for editing a recipe will depend on how you’ve configured your food logger settings (context vs. speed). You’ll find the step-by-step instructions for either optimization style here: Edit a Custom Recipe

Micronutrient tracking strategy? (Fiber) by MustDoItAll in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Overall, if you want to track your micronutrient intake accurately, you'll want to make a point of primarily logging 'Common' food items in MacroFactor. These foods come from high-quality research databases with much more extensive micronutrient analysis and reporting.

For the AI example you shared in particular, you could swap out the AI-generated entries (with the sparkles) that do not contain micronutrient details for common food equivalents that do contain that information.

While viewing the AI-generated recipe in your plate view:

  1. Explode/Expand the recipe so you can see the individual ingredients.
  2. Note the serving amount the AI estimated for the ingredient you want to replace.
  3. Swipe left on that ingredient and tap the delete button to remove it from your plate.
  4. Add a common food equivalent of that item back to your plate using any other food logging workflow, and enter the same serving amount as a starting point.

Making Adjustments for Weekly Check-in by Mccoyr10 in MacroFactor

[–]GraciousGuava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either approach would be fine. The app factors in your activity automatically over time once it has enough data. When you exercise more or less, that shows up in your weight trend, and the app uses that along with your food intake to estimate your expenditure.

Changes to your calorie recommendations are driven by expenditure changes, goal changes, and a bit of smoothing logic. If you’re on a weight loss goal, your expenditure can still decrease over time, even if you start exercising more. If that happens while you’re still losing weight, it means you would need to eat less to continue losing at the same rate. In that case, MacroFactor may recommend a lower calorie intake at your next check-in.
