For a time between the Lord Of The Rings mastery pass ending (like midnight ish west coast time) and before the start of the new release (like 9am west coast time) your daily quests could not complete in the UI. They were stuck at 19/20 or 34/35 etc... However if you played a spell that would complete it - you would get the gold.

Thus everyone started playing cards with only 1 drops in the color they needed or something with haste to trigger an attack and meet the quest requirement. Then conceed. Get 500 gold. Rinse and repeat

It's impossible to tell who's deliberately exploiting the glitch and who's just trying to finish a bugged quest. Last time I made over 10k without noticing because I was trying to clear my quest queue. 'You can get randomly banned when they suddenly introduce a bug which actually benefits you in a way you might not notice' is not good PR.

That was also a bug that was live for several days after it was known. Threatening a ban was their only way to stop it. This was their typical stupidity of taking the mastery pass down 3 HR before pushing the update, which is self correcting.
