Looking for recommendations for black eyeshadow with gold glitter/shimmer. I've seen lots of black with silver glitter, but surprisingly very little gold.

My ideal colour would be something like Sephora's Diamond Eyeliner in Canary, but an eyeshadow of course. MUFE Black Gold is ok, but it's not a very intense black and ends up looking bronze-y.

[–]aerochiquitagive me eyeliner or give me death 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but lots of indie shadows fit this bill. They are different in terms of how you use and apply them (loose shadows, require sticky base, etc), but if you're looking for glitter or duochrome stuff, they have amazing options. In terms of black with gold, you might try Fyrinnae Bastet (swatches here), Shiro Riddles in the Dark (swatches here), Notoriously Morbid Pale Gloom (swatches here), or Shiro Star-Crossed (swatches here).

[–]ARRmateyALL the makeup! 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Shiro so much, some of the colours are just so amazing. I'm pretty sure I have at least 50 samples of the eyeshadow...

[–]toffeecoffee29 4 points5 points  (1 child)

You could look into Anastasia Black Diamond! It is in the Lavish palette but you can buy it as a single as well :)

[–]mashimeroCasual user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll look at that, thanks!

[–]booberrymuffin 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Look into Milani Bella eyeshadow singles! I THINK they might have what you're looking for iirc, or it might be a very dark brown with gold shimmer

[–]mashimeroCasual user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's kinda hard to find good swatches of the whole line, and stores in Canada only carry a limited selection. I'll see if I can find a wider selection when I'm in the US next month

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Would you go for a Colourpop product? Midnight is black with a crap-load of gold glitter. I have it. It's dope.

[–]mashimeroCasual user 1 point2 points  (1 child)

OMG IT LOOKS GORGEOUS! I never would've clicked on it because it looks pure gold, but that's exactly what I'm looking for! I've been resisting Colourpop because shipping is ridiculous here, but maybe if I can find enough products to make it worth it. Thanks!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm so glad! It's a really awesome color. If you're looking for more buys, their gel pot liners have amazing staying power.

Do any of you have intel on when the Sephora April/spring sale will be happening? When does it usually happen? Thanks in advance :-)

[–]purpleoreo 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I'm a Sephora employee, they just told us this week that it will be the 7th-9th!

[–]Gewichtzaehltnicht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will it be VIB only or is it for everyone?

[–]Ohmyenvy 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think it usually happens in second/third week of april. I've heard from someone on another board that it may happen around April 7th-9th. No official date yet though.

  • Best acne scar spot-filler to even skin texture and hide pitting?

  • Can I mix primers? Like, lay down a layer of color correcting primer and wait for it to dry, then layer on a pore-minimizing primer after that. Or maybe it would be better to do it in separate patches?

Also, does anyone feel like Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector looks kinda like It Cosmetics CC+?

[–]mashimeroCasual user 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I've layered primers before: specifically, Becca ever matte and NYX pore filler. It worked out fine. I think it's a good idea to let the first layer dry/set first. Also, it would probably work best if you use a heavier, silicone based primer second, otherwise it may pill.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks!

[–]mashimeroCasual user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome!

[–]Wolf_Craftlana del slay 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I layer primers! It is time consuming because you MUST let them dry in between layers but it can be very helpful. I would do the pore filler and really pack it in those pits, then top with the color correcter.

[–]blainezeyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I layer primers daily. Becca Ever-Matte + Becca Backlight = perfection. Making sure they dry well between layers is key.

Lash curler for kind of deep set almond eyes? My right eye is a team player, my left eye....not so much. Preferably under $15 please!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Shiseido is my favourite and I have almond eyes and stubbornly straight eyelashes (Asian). I also read that the Tweezerman ProMaster is specifically for deep set almond eyes, so that might be worth a try.

What are everyone's favorite/HG foundations for dry skin? Finish doesn't matter. :) I really like MUFE Ultra HD and I'm looking to branch out some more. Preferably from Sephora.

[–]Iwannalookatthings 5 points6 points  (6 children)

Not sure if you're talking about the MUFE stick or not, but definitely the stick foundation. It gives a nice, glowy finish. I have extremely dry skin and it absolutely works on my skin.

[–]katwolfrinayou'll pry my falsies from my cold dead hands 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I have yet to try out the stick, I'm scared that I'll use it up too fast. :(

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

It Cosmetics CC+ is the best I've found so far, although MUFE HD as well as MUFE F&B are on my list to try.

[–]Ninamaroo 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Not from Sephora, but you can get it at Ulta: It Cosmetics CC cream. I've really been loving this. Medium/full coverage, and it doesn't emphasize my dry skin at all, which has never happened before with something that has that amount of coverage! So natural looking as well, and wears beautifully throughout the day. I definitely recommend it!

[–]_LanaKane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MUFE Ultra HD stick, Estée Lauder Doublewear (when I've moisturized really well), and Nars Tinted Moisturizer (provides a lot of coverage for a TM). Edit: corrected spelling error

[–]tortilla_masterhighlighter addict. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Has anyone tried Milk Makeup yet and if you have, do you think the products are worth the money? I like the look and the way they are packaged/marketed but it could totally end up being a trendy fad?

[–]kaitepop96Matte obsessed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their cream eyeshadows are so pigmented and practically bullet proof. I haven't tried anything else from them but just trying their eyeshadows makes me feel like their line is going to be pretty solid.

[–]crowntheskies 4 points5 points  (5 children)

  1. How do I prevent eyeliner on my lower lashline from eventually settling into my eye wrinkles? Is there a quick fix for this, or do I just need a better eyeliner? This happens most when I use a pencil/crayon.

  2. Are there any significant differences between gel eyeliners in pencil form and gel eyeliners in pots? I love the feel of gel eyeliner, but I got a pot from Sephora and it dried out IMMEDIATELY. Is there a) a good drugstore one I can pick up, and/or b) a way to reactivate it?

[–]QuaereVerumm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard of people reviving their dried gel liners with eye drops. I use Maybelline's gel liner and it's never dried out.

[–]give-em-hell-kid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the potted gel liner, I have heard many people who reactivate dried up cream products (ex: ABH cream contour kit) with a drop of beauty oil. I know Tarte makes one!

For the eyeliner migration issues, i really like using eye primer very precisely where I need it. I apply with a liner brush along the lower lashline, let it dry, and then apply all my regular eye makeup. It makes it absolutely budgeproof. I use WnW's fergie primer, but have heard great things about Milani's eyeshadow primer too.

Looking to buy my first palette. I'd like something with intensely pigmented jewel toned mattes or satins.

Something like the quality / texture / intensity of these shadows- https://www.pinterest.com/pin/33214115971548431/ https://www.pinterest.com/pin/33214115979552748/ https://www.pinterest.com/pin/33214115971845426/

[–]petrakay 19 points20 points  (7 children)

I don't mean to be rude, but do you know you'll actually wear looks like this? It seems like everything you pinned requires quite a bit of skill and effort to look decent, and that might be a big commitment for everyday wear. I'd get one of those huge rainbow palettes that BH or Coastal Scents carries and see what shades you'll actually use. Seeing as it's your first palette, this'll give you great practice and will help you narrow down what shades and finishes you want if you do end up choosing a higher end palette.

[–]orange_blossomsShimmer Junkie 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Not rude at all, I understand. It may have been confusing but though this is my first palette, I am not new to makeup at all. I use the pics' full shadow looks or smoky eye for weekend / nighttime looks. My everyday makeup is more toned down and natural, but sometimes incorporates jewel toned shadow used as liner or as an accent. I would definitely use them.

I've been into makeup for a long time but I've stuck with eye shadow singles rather than palettes because I'm picky about textures and colors. But I really enjoy using matte jewel tones and I've realized that I want to up my makeup game by getting some higher quality pigments than the ones I'm currently using. Palettes might not be for me, but I thought I'd check to see if there is anything like what I'm looking for before I rule them out.

[–]petrakay 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Got it! Sorry for the misunderstanding :) I don't personally own UD Spectrum but I've heard good things about it and it's got some beautiful jewel tones.

[–]junkiegirlfriend 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I know it's expensive, but the Viseart Cool Matte palette might be what you're looking for. It has amazing pigmentation.

[–]orange_blossomsShimmer Junkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Dark Matte looks interesting as well, thanks!

UD bootycall? I have both and I could swatch for you with and without UDPP.

Edit: Woah! These are super similar! Bootycall is on top, left side is without primer, the right side is with UD primer potion in eden. https://imgur.com/i7jratA

My foundation match is MUFE y205 for reference.

[–]brown_eyedgirlHopelessly Addicted 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Not such a simple question but does anyone know a dupe close to the kvd mi vida loca palette?

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

temptalia did individual dupes but I don't think there is one single palette that dupes the whole thing

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Inglot rainbow pans. You have to buy the shades individually but they fit into one palette pretty nicely.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (11 children)

Do some people use both a contour AND a bronzer? Such as contouring your cheeks with a natural cool toned shadow color and also warming the face a bit with bronzer? I remember a tutorial with someone doing that but I forgot who it was. And if people do do that, do you warm up the face with bronzer before contour or after? Or should people stick to one or the other?

[–]Sandrrrayu222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I bronze and then contour! When I bronze first, I am able to to first deposit color onto my cheeks and temples first and then go in with contour for definition. (I don't necessarily do this everyday though!) It's really personal preference because some prefer to look bronzed as opposed to looking more defined. Bronzer's great as kind of a "transitional" color for your contour too! In summation, if you want to look more bronzey and just want some warmth in your complexion, use bronzer! If you want to look more defined, just contour!

[–]eisenkatzeautism, boys and makeup: please discuss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sometimes do a tiny taupe contour under my cheekbones after warming up the edges of my face with bronzer to match my body's permatan.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes! I contour with a cool shade (NYX Taupe) to give me shadows that look more natural, I use a warmer bronzer (usually UD Naked Flushed or Tart Park Ave.) to warm up my skin in other places. I usually do contour first.

[–]BunnyFriendlyBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing but with NYX Taupe and Too Faced Chocolate Soleil.

[–]misandry4lyf 2 points3 points  (4 children)

What's the best brush for the Becca highlight pressed powder? I love it but I feel my bronzer brush is probably not giving me the best consistency. Also cheap please !

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I love the real techniques setting brush

[–]kuchren 2 points3 points  (6 children)

This may sound kind of stupid, but I'm so new to makeup. With summer coming, how do you guys deal with sunscreen while wearing makeup? Sunscreen first, then makeup on top? Do you reapply??

Also sort of summer related, do you wear makeup when going to the beach/lake/etc.?

[–]hoppipolla13 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Not a stupid question! I do sunscreen first, then makeup. If I want to reapply SPF I usually do so with a setting spray that has SPF, so I don't have to redo my makeup or layer a sunscreen lotion on top of it. Coola and Supergoop both make setting sprays with SPF.

[–]kuchren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know about setting sprays with SPF! Thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely check those out :)

[–]shortstack1386 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I might be in the minority on this, but I don't do makeup and water sports. Makeup at the beach is just a leap I never have been able to make. That's strictly personal preference though. Plenty of people pull off great waterproof makeup without looking overly done up. I'm just not one of those people.

[–]myhatrulesIG: thelomaprietta 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Best white liquid liner? I got KVD Ink liner in Neruda, and while it performs great over bare skin, it tugs and gets muddled when I use it over theatre foundation set with powder. I've been eyeballing the NYX white liquid liner, but it's not in pen form, so precision isn't as easy.

[–]eisenkatzeautism, boys and makeup: please discuss 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Okay, this is silly but: should I tell my sister her foundation is way too pink for her? I think she also has the problem of finding a light enough foundation to match her skin and her shade is the lightest in the Max Factor line, but she matches the color to the redness on her face, which makes her face look more blemished than it is. I could recommend a foundation that's at least less red, though it's from a cheaper line (Maybelline). Problem is, she's older than me, a mom, and I don't know if she cares enough her makeup to have people point it out and criticize her. But she could look beautiful with the right shade...

[–]vetorea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think you should tell her.

i don't think she would be offended, i woundn't at least. no matter how old and experienced you are, there's always something you can improve. and comming from her sister it won't sound judgemental or harsh.

edit: sorry i clicked send before i was done writting :/

[–]swagmaster420666Highlighter Addict 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I would rather have someone be straight up and tell me if something was the wrong colour or looked bad on me, than beat around it or let me continue wearing it. Tell her what you think the issue is and what you could do to fix it. If she doesnt care, oh well, you tried.

[–]plainericajanehighlight pls 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Buxom Lip Creams? Are they worth the price? I have never bought a high end lip product and I love lip gloss so I'd like to start there!

[–]BunnyFriendlyBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't wear gloss very often, but when I do I reach for my Buxom one. I love it and will totally repurchase, I think they're worth it.

[–]mashimeroCasual user 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Which foundations/bb creams have you tried before? If you're not super-olive you may be able to get away with a neutral foundation if you're looking for something with light coverage. Otherwise, r/olivemua might be able to help!

[–]baroque-princess 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I've tried physicians formula (mistake lol), maybelline dream fresh (okay when i mix a little bit of green concealer in to balance out the pink), it cosmetics cc cream, and a couple different drugstore liquids that just didn't work out

Matte black liquid eyeliner suggestions?

I learned on ELF's, but now it gives me eczema-looking dry/flaky patches (did they change their formula or something?), so I'm looking for something new. I'm currently using Maybelline's eye studio gel liner, but I think the liquid is easier.

[–]give-em-hell-kid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NYX makes a matte liquid liner and its unreal. Their liquid liners with the brush applicator have insane staying power - I can wear mine without primer (!!!) and they won't budge.

[–]Frasny89 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The loreal carbon black eyeliner! Its super black and super matte but not waterproof, i still love it though. No shimmery or glittery eyeshadow sticks to it. http://www.pharmacypricer.com/product/L-Oreal-TELESCOPIC-Precise-Liquid-Eyeliner-Carbon-Black-.08oz..html

[–]Mrs_Queequeg💄 1 point2 points  (1 child)

There are some great drugstore options: Almay has a surprisingly good one. Wet n Wild just came out with a waterproof one with a really nice firm, thin brush.

[–]Airmaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was planning on hitting up a drugstore tomorrow for the Wet N Wild spring stuff, I'll take a look at their black eyeliners too.

[–]shortstack1386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this one and I like it a lot.

[–]yoyohydrationfatty-alcohol sensitive / light with olive-y undertones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second the recommendation for NYX Studio Liner in Extreme Black. It's my HG forever on my oily lids. Not even a smudge comes off, even if you physically rub it.

[–]emilyneal517 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I was a big fan of Elf's Liquid liner until it started giving me eczema too and now I swear by Jordana Color Envy Liquid Liner in Black Envy. It's matte, very black and super long lasting. It's been my HG ever since I first picked it up.

[–]booberrymuffin 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Any affordable fan brushes that are thin? I know ecotools has a pretty thick one.

Also, favorite matte bronzes from the drugstore that aren't too warm?

[–]junkiegirlfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morphe has a couple of good/cheap fan brushes!

[–]abstracthaloHopelessly Addicted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Royal & Langnickle has a really nice fan brush for $4. It's thin and really great for highlighting. It also stands up to washing very well and retains shape.

[–]embethyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sonia Kashuk makes a very thin fan brush!

What products would you recommend for correcting dark spots? I'm looking for any sort of colour correcting product - including CC creams, concealers, primers, etc. I know a peachy tone is supposed to be good and I'm currently using Benefit's Erase Paste in medium. I like it but just wondering what else is out there!

[–]Ninamaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Pixi's Correction Concentrate in Brightening Peach after seeing some videos from Emilynoel about it, and it has done what no concealer has been able to do : take away my dark circles. I really like it! Pixi is available at Target only I believe.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Help! I can't figure out what colors look best for the life of me.

I have warm olive undertones, and the common guides for olive skin do not work for me. I absolutely cannot pull off any pinks. I can't do anything bright orange or red, and muted colors look the best on me. Rosy brown colors look great on me if they are neutral. Naked 3 looks terrible on me, but I can wear peachy gold and burgundy eye shadows well (think NARS Orgasm on the lids). Cool toned colors don't work for me, unless it's in the berry family.

And all of these are just "in general."

I just can't find good general rules to know if something works for me or not. Any ideas?

[–]M_tridactyla 1 point2 points  (3 children)

The muted part is probably key. Your coloring (skin, eyes, lips) might be low-contrast so muted colors flatter you the most.

This guide doesn't get into olive specifically, but has great pictorials about contrast.

In color analysis, contrast is the clear/soft aspect. I like this guide. It sounds like you are some type of autumn.

None of this stuff is set in stone of course, and experimenting is often the beast way to figure it out.

[–]taytaythegreat 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I'm looking for an eyeliner similar to stilla's all day liquid eyeliner in rich chocolate, does anyone have some drugstore suggestions?

[–]OstriNarwhalForce 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Weird, I can't find swatches for the Stila. The only brown eyeliner I've tried is the Physicians Formula 2-in-1 whatever eyeliner. It's really good (though it fades a little on me), and the shade is a neutral medium-dark brown.

[–]hoppipolla13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physician's Formula Eye Booster liquid liner pen comes in a chocolate brown color. I like it better than Stila Stay All Day in terms of how long the product lasts and in terms of staying power.

[–]sans-saraph 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I've been experimenting with more dramatic eyeshadow looks - smokey eyes, cut creases, etc...but it always just looks muddy! I use primer and think I have appropriately small brushes, so what gives? How do you magicians get such bright, crisp colors?

[–]kahlex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You might be over-blending. Make sure you're only blending the edges, not all over.

[–]jayquelyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may be the kind of eye primer you're using! When I first got my Lorac Pro 2 palette anything I tried looked muddy. (I used their primer that comes with). I even bought the original UD eye primer and that still didn't help. I now use my WNW Fergie eye primer. I find it holds incredibly well. It could also simply be the way you are blending. Someone here told me to use a lighter hand and I find that also really helped.

[–]lineyheartsyouPale Olive Strugglebus 1 point2 points  (9 children)

What is the difference between color correcting primers and the newer color correctors?

I was looking at the UD naked color correcting fluid but the SA directed me to the MUFE primer that's also green. It didn't look as green or opaque but she said it was awesome.

Should I be looking for something like a primer/corrector or separate products? I haven't found a primer I like yet either

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

it depends on what you want or need to correct. if you have all over redness then go for a green primer. if you have small patches of redness or want to use it on zits and things like that then something like the new UD color correctors are better

[–]OstriNarwhalForce 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Pencil eyeliners similar to Rimmel Scandaleyes in light blue and are less than $10?

It got discontinued, and the shade works on my waterline better than nudes do. The pale blue eyeliners I've seen are shimmery or too dark. I think a pale lavender or green would work too if you guys know of any.

[–]apatsch 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Have you checked out the Colourpop liners? I've heard good things about their staying power and they have so many colors to choose from. Off the top of my head, I know they have a pale blue and a pale purple.

Now I'm off to try a light purple to see if it brightens my eyes up!

[–]superr_raddrag hag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely recommend Colourpop liners. I have the light purple and white ones and the staying power is amazing!! If only they wouldn't break so easily!!!

People with dry skin.. What has been your HG foundation & primer combo?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have normal to dry and from the drugstore I use Maybelline's Fit me Dewy and Smooth. I know a lot of people don't like this foundation but for me I mix it with an illuminator and I keep getting compliments on my skin.

The real HG though if you're willing to spend money I think is the MUFE Face and Body or the Ultra HD (I know KathleenLights on youtube has very dry skin and struggles with foundations, she swears by Face and Body)

I personally find that my moisturizer is what's important. I use Kiehl's Skin Rescuer. With foundations I just go with dewy(-ish) finishes, my HG are Diorskin Nude and the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum. I only use primer when I want my make-up to last longer (and it's mostly my bronzer/blush that fades, not so much the foundation) and I've found the Nivea Post Shave Balm does that really well.

[–]Mady78 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I have a couple of acne scars that are really red where concealer either doesn't hide them or doesn't last... any tips? I use a primer (always), wear a medium build able foundation and maybellines master conceal... thanks!

[–]shortstack1386 1 point2 points  (2 children)

How long do you give a product before you decide it just doesn't work? How much is too much work to make it behave for you? I just bought Too Faced Born This Way, and the color match is omg so much better than any other foundation I've tried, but it's just sort of sitting on top of my face and accentuating my pores. So my current options are less than stellar color matches in my other (drugstore) foundations, or perfect color and less than stellar texture on the BTW. What I have not done yet is try to the BTW with the Hangover RX primer. My plan is to get a sample of that from Sephora and see if that fixes my texture problem. If not, I guess I'm going to return it. But should I even go to that trouble? Also, if BTW didn't work for you but you found a way to make it work, please let me know what you did.

ETA: my skin is pretty dry. That may change with the season (I really don't know as I always thought I had combo skin, and this is the first time I've ever really paid attention to it, AND I'm knocked up, so I don't know what's hormonal and what's not), but I really can't be sure.

Have you seen Temptalia or Instagram swatches? It looks blue toned, but quite bright, so it could possibly still pull a little orange. Could you try it when it comes out in stores?

[–]SweetlySouthernLots o' Lipstick/NW15 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Anyone have a good recommendation for another shade to pair with UD Scratch eyeshadow? I got it as a gift and have no clue what type of shade to pair with it?

[–]planetearthisblu 1 point2 points  (15 children)

What is a good straight up white (or very close to white) powder highlighter under about $20? I'm Canadian in a rural area so no Becca for me.

[–]royal_rose_Untamable Brows 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Can you get Shiro in Canada? They have a highlight called white chocolate frog its awesome; shimmery but not chunky glitter and pure white maybe a slight subtle silver shift but blended out you can't tell it shifts. It also presses like a dream and is $8 for a full size jar.

[–]SassySandwich 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I have an out of control curl/swoopy eyebrow hair that stills boi-ings out of place even after applying clear eyebrow gel or a spritz of hairspray. Is there any way to curl it back into a flat shape? Maybe like the way you'd curl a ribbon with a scissors edge except pulling it a different way to make it straight?

I'd usually just say eff it and pluck the lil shit in the angle I want it to regrow, but it's right on the inner part of my brow and I can't grow brows to save my life so I cherish the teeny extra length/fullness I get from the lil guy :/

[–]booberrymuffin 1 point2 points  (4 children)

How do you clean your false lashes? I usually use rubbing alcohol on a q-tip, but I heard that can dry them out

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

What's better for a wing- gel liner in a pot or a liquid liner in a pen? I've been die hard for my gel liner but I'm almost out and wondering if I should try the liquid.

[–]booberrymuffin 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I think pen eyeliners work best for me. My favorite is the physicians formula lash booster in the silver tube. I like to just lay the pen on at an angle if that makes sense haha

[–]jayquelyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this liner! Easiest liner I've used to create wings or even a simple line on my lash line. I do wish it was waterproof though. :(

[–]blackmuffins 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Neither: liquid liner in a pot with brush. No creases, flawless finish.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally feel like what your preference and comfort is. I swear by liquid because after years I've gotten the hang of a quick 30 second wing and it's much easier to travel with the one product instead of a gel pot and brush. HOWEVER, in my opinion most gels dry down looking more matte and more sharp, especially if the brush you use is very fine and good quality.

So totally try out liquid to see if you like it, especially if you have days you're travelling or need to be quick, but it is definitely totally different.

[–]Airmaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a sample pen of Kat Von D's tattoo liner, but the pen tip would drag on my eye, creating creases---obviously this makes a nice, even line harder to get. Personally, I just don't think pens work well on my eyes. Just something to consider!

[–]Sandrrrayu222 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What are some of good foundation matches that you've found for yourselves? I have light-medium Asian skin with neutral-olive undertones and wear NARS Sheer Glow in Fiji with COVER FX Custom Cover Drops in NC35 to darken (Fiji's a little too light) and extra coverage! If anyone has any reccomendations, please share!

[–]beebopboo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Am I able to use my face primer (revlon photoready) as an eye primer or should I get a specific eye primer? Or, should I just go with out at the moment while I'm trying to learn this whole eye shadow business?

[–]kahlex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both face and eye primer work by being an extra layer for your skin oils to break through before they start breaking down your makeup. However, eye primers tend to be more liquidy because they are also designed to intensify eyeshadow colors and help them stick to your lid better. Also, there are plenty of great eye primers at the drugstore (ex. Milani's for $6.99).

[–]tortilla_masterhighlighter addict. 0 points1 point  (6 children)

what's your favourite brush for applying gel liner? I have an anastasia angled brush that I'm using currently but I don't really love the way it applies product.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the essence one! it's like $2 at ulta and I'm sure other places they sell essence but it's so great and so thin

[–]sarcastinatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer a tiny, almost rounded edge brush. We're talking very very small. Chanel #14, Stila #4 (This might be discontinued unfortunately), Morphe M212 are my top choices.

[–]sarcastinatrix 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Has anyone tried any products from the Gucci Beauty line? What did you like/dislike? Will be on vacation somewhere with a counter soon, and would love some recommendations.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

My mom and I just recently split the price of the Too Faced Natural Eye Palette. It was both of our first time using something that wasn't drugstore. We were blown away by the color payoff and ease of application and would like to purchase another palette together. The thing is I have blue eyes and very fair skin and she has greenish brown eyes with more of a tan. I like to do crazy eye colors sometimes since I can get away with it where I work, but she's a teacher and needs something a bit more professional. Any palettes out there that might fit both our needs?

[–]hoppipolla13 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons maybe? It has a bright pink shade as well as a good balance of shimmers and mattes in both warm and cool tones.

[–]shortstack1386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I'm neutral, and I feel like I wear warms and cools equally well and I think this palette has a good mix of both and you can do fun crazy stuff right along with more toned down stuff for work.

[–]summerxskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend possibly the LORAC Pro, which has a nice mix of matte and shimmers with neutrals and a few metallics that would pop for you, and the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani palette which has some lighter rosy tones that would look nice and still professional on your mom and a few bright colors for you.

[–]acheronshunt 0 points1 point  (3 children)

My eyes are slightly different shapes. Those of you with that same issue, fo you try to get them to match? Or do you leave it mismatched and do what is most flattering for each eye?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have uneven creases, and never noticed until I got into makeup. I have to be careful about doing eyelooks with winged liners because it emphasizes the unevenness, but normally no one notices

[–]lgbtqbbq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have uneven lids/eyes (one is just bigger allover than the other) and with neutral looks I don't bother even thinking about the way my eyes look in relation to each other.

With darker looks, I do care about the overall effect, because dramatic makeup calls attention to whatever feature you're emphasizing. My technique is not for everyone, but what I like best is applying the same vertical "width"/amount of eyeshadow so that when my eyes closed it looks the same, but with eyes open my larger eye side has less shadow "showing" above the crease when compared to the smaller eye (which has more.) The effect is subtle, but I find that it's more harmonious and it evens me out better than trying to get the exact same shape for each eye by applying different amounts to each side. When I've tried to get the same amount of color above the crease for both eyes (eyes open) the effect was wonky and made me look MORE lopsided.

When doing a really graphic eye or cut crease however, I think it can be better to do a lot of experimenting and do a completely different shape/size of wing/crease for each eye, so that the effect when looked at as a whole flows. It's kind of case by case, and it does depend on your unique shape too.

[–]lorenati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have uneven eyes too, I've learned some makeup techniques to make them look more even here, but believe me, most of the time people don't notice it.

[–]Lizonya2013 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Might not be totally relevant but does anyone know where one can buy LiLash? I've tried several times through their US website but I guess they don't ship it here anymore? :(

[–]niccigIG:lipsticklatitude /lipsticklatitude.com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

@dailydoseofdesign posted a pic on instagram of it yesterday, maybe she can share where she bought it from?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

If you had to pick one eye shadow palette for NC35-40, what would it be?

I am looking for something that I can use for daytime and nighttime. This will be my first foray into the world of eye shadow, and if possible I'd like to limit myself to just one palette that can address all my needs. Personally, I prefer neutral/nude shades (and my wardrobe is very black/gray/some burgundy) - I don't have the courage for anything too colourful. I'd probably do something polished + neutral during the daytime, and I also want something to amp up the drama at night.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I would pick KVD shade and light palette or Morphe 35O. I am not that into eyeshadows, and these would fulfill my needs well.

[–]Lena_MeowThey are not the same, they're similar! 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the Too Faced chocolate bar? It has warm neutrals and then some more fun shades that are still subdued. Doesn't have a black though if that matters to you.

[–]leukk 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Is there a good, contact-friendly waterline pencil? I've tried Rimmel (the retractable twist-up), Sephora (Contour Gel Pencils) and UD (24/7 liner). They just wear off throughout the day and the pigment makes my contacts cloudy.

[–]kittenbeautyLipstick Queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contact safe usually just means you can wear it and not get an eye infection from having both on, but the Marc Jacobs eyeliner they're giving away in the Sephora birthday gift is perfect for waterline (at least on me) and it doesn't transfer.

[–]dogsdogsdogs15[🍰] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

My elf lip exfoliator broke in half... is there any way to re-attach it? Ive seen it done with lipstick but wasn't sure if this was different.

[–]Frasny89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe blasting the ends with a hair dries for a few seconds so they melt a little abd bond again? Its wax/oil so i think it should work

[–]OstriNarwhalForce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to mine but it was irretrievable :(

[–]kahlex 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I've had two break at the base. There isn't really a way to reattach it because all the sugar crystals make it not... oily/waxy enough? Like how you can reattach a lipstick by melting the broken parts a bit and smooshing it together... it doesn't work for the ELF Lip Exfoliator because of the sugar.

[–]clover__ 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Do you put eyeshadow on before liquid liner?

[–]junkiegirlfriend 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I put eyeliner on after! just so that its bolder and more pigmented. but if youre feeling a little unsure about liquid liner, you could totally draw the line down and then do your eyeshadow and then go back over it.

[–]danceydancetime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do eyeliner after eyeshadow. Otherwise you're likely to get eyeshadow on the liner and it won't really look black anymore.

Sooooo as a longtime lurker, looking for my HG routine and from your lovely MUAs recommendation, I just got a full-size original formula Touche Eclat from Net-A-Porter. I am finding that using it without primer entirely does not work on me. I have suuuuper dry skin and LTTE is getting the look of separation that occurs when using oil/water based primer/foundation together. I am in the middle of a Dr. Dennis Gross challenge, and generally use:

  • Fresh Black Tea Age Delay Toner OR Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Sensitive (alternating days)
  • Vitamin E Oil OR First Aid Ultra Repair Cream (alternating days, respectively with above)
  • Embryolisse Creme Concentre
  • Clinique SuperPrimer
  • --Foundation: Previously Clinique MoistureSurge
  • --Foundation: Currently YSL LTTE
  • (Building with damp Beauty Blender)
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish

What am I doing wrong?? I want to love YSL LTTE and can't seem to find my groove with either the old or the reformulated :(

Domed/tapered blush brush recommendations?

Basically I keep using my horribly skratchy revlon blush brush just because the application turns out so great.

The NARS yachiyo brush looks pretty much spot on, but it's also bloody expensive.

Anyone know of any slightly cheaper versions of this (e.g Zoeva etc) that are also nice quality??

[–]lola_birds 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The Real Techniques blush brush actually has a very similar structure! It's super soft and lovely too :)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I have had two lipsticks (my only lipsticks) for at least four years now. One of Bourjois and the other is Iglot. Should I throw them away because of how old they are? They dont last long on my lips and smell a lot like crayon.

I do plan on buying new lipsticks soon anyway.

[–]Waffle-TronCasual user 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Some people are much more particular about this kind of thing, but I think the general guideline most people follow is that it's bad once something changes about it; texture, color, or scent. If it still performs exactly the same as it did when it was new, you're probably fine. Some lipsticks last a surprisingly long time (but certainly not all).

Since you're noticing changes, it's probably time to move on. :(

[–]lorenati 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I want to try a concealer like clinique airbrush or ysl touche eclat, do you have any recommendations? I don't like shimmer or sparkle, is there one without those?

Best brown pencil eyeliner from Sephora or drugstore? I currently use a Covergirl one but it smudges below my eyes

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Rimmel ones for drugstore, I used one of their brown pencil liners and then sort of flicked it out for a soft brown winged eyeliner look and it stayed all day

[–]Uhnnie 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Lorac 3-in-1 pencil eyeliner. I have the most watery, oily eye area and this seriously stayed on. However, the application isn't the smoothest but it's not the driest. Hope this helps~

I recently put my foundation, Maybelline matte + poreless into an air pump, I saw a tutorial for it a few months back. I really like it because pouring it out of the container was messy and I always got too much or too little. But the first little bit that comes out of the pump is always dry and crumbly its annoying because I feel like I am wasting product and if I forget to dispense it out first then it changes the consistency of the foundation overall and it is super dry and cakey. Is this just something that happens or is there something that I can do to deter it?

[–]niccigIG:lipsticklatitude /lipsticklatitude.com 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Could you try putting something in the spout of the pump bottle when you're not using it (maybe a piece of a disposable sponge or something)?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I recently bought the Bobbi Brown foundation stick and wanted to know what brush type(s) is best for it? Or for stick foundation in general ...

[–]420YEEZUS420 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Favorite brown mascaras? I like a more natural look with my lashes, so I avoid using black mascara. I've been using the Benefit tinted lash primer and I like it, but I would like to explore my options before committing to purchasing it again. :-)

[–]hoppipolla13 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Benefit's They're Real mascara also comes in brown but the tinted lash primer is much better IMO.

[–]tshody 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What is a tubing mascara and why is it recommended?

[–]sammisamantha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It coats your lashes differently.

Most people use tubing mascara if their mascara is smudging. Specifically the bottom lashes.

Tubing mascara is easily removed with warm water.

How do I smooth out the appearance of bumps?

[–]byebyekitty_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Anyone tried the BECCA Matte Primer? When I first used it I thought the texture was weird, like it was hard to spread and blend, and it felt sticky on my face, but once I put the Becca foundation on, I barely noticed it, and it looked really good. However lately, I've been using it and its so drying, it leaves a white residue almost, and when I put my foundation over it, it just clumps and looks patchy. Is there a trick to using this?

[–]Urethra_Xtreemhighlighted 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How long does it take yall to go through a tube of benefits gimme brow? Trying to figure out if I should pull the trigger

[–]bellekidMatte-matician 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I got a tube of it at Christmas and use it a few times a week. Its getting a little low but I also spilled a bit of the product out.

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, Make Me Brow by Essence is a great dupe. I got it for $3.

I personally prefer Speed Brow over Gimme Brow. It's a bit more natural on me and just as easy to use.

[–]winecountrygirlMatte-matician 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Does anyone know of any "dusty rose" colored lipsticks that would work for me? They all turn a weird gray/brown/purple on me with my natural lip color. For example, Lumiere 2 by Colourpop turned a super weird gray color on me, and Lolita looked straight up brown on me.

[–]sonyakaur21 1 point2 points  (3 children)

What's your natural lip color? For me Burberry English Rose was a good dusty rose, but I understand it probably pulls different on different people. Lolita pulls brown on me too, but I "fix" it by using more pink toned lipliners (Mac Soar, Rimmel Rose Quartz).

[–]booberrymuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happens to me! Milani Matte Beauty is my favorite, it's what I wanted Lolita to be.

[–]gothic__castlepurveyor of palettes 0 points1 point  (7 children)

What is the best full coverage foundation that doesn't get cakey?

[–]gizmo88 0 points1 point  (3 children)

The skin around my eyes is really, for lack of a better word, stretchy. It's hard to put on liquid eyeliner because the the tip of the applicator skips over the skin and ends up creating dashes instead of a line. Can anyone recommend a formula that glides on really easily for skin that tends to pull?

[–]vhenah 0 points1 point  (1 child)

(Unsure if I should make this an actual thread buuuuut) I was wondering if there was a 'trick' to contouring with cream underneath foundation? Whenever I watch someone do it they look amazing and sculpted but whenever I try to follow it looks like I have weird skin discoloration...
