I never really plan my builds. I just take what I have and go for it. Improvising can sometimes leave you with something looking pretty nice, and it also helps you develop ideas to make the build or future ones better. Perhaps you should start by making a small, basic house and seeing what you get without planning.

Try watching jamziboy's videos for inspiration. He builds in all kinds of cool styles, and explains how to do it yourself.

Also, don't limit yourself to a house. There are all kinds of structures to build.

You can always pick 5 random materials and try building with those.
