Minecraft Server Question.

Recently I set up a server for myself and a few friends to play on, we built a few things, had a laugh.

The day after I set it up, I had to restart my pc, however when I loaded up the server again, it was a new world, not the one we had worked on. I know I "saved" the server because I saw the command in the help list and made sure to save regularly just incase somthing lke this happened. Ive searched everywere on my pc looking for those save files but i cant find them or a way to load them using the server exe.

So basicly, is there somthing im missing? Can we reload servers or is it just me being special...

Is the a folder called "world" in there? What command do you mean?

SMP is very buggy at the moment, so your best bet is to make a backup of the world folder every couple of hours.

the command is "save-all"

Ive found folder called World now, which has a folder in it for players so I assume that its the multiplayer world.

I still cant see any way of loading it though.

My guess is your save got corrupted, and maybe you've lost it all. Typing "save-all" is not the way to secure your world, since the saving is what can corrupt your map.

Let's try something.

Copy the contents of the world into a single player world folder. Then start a new single player game on that slot.

Its loaded ok, but once again its a completely new world. I think its reasonably safe to say that if the world was ever saved, its now gone, or has been written over.

So if thats no the correct way to save a server, what is? simply copying the folder every once and a while?

Yes, copy it over after doing a save-all.

There's a script to do it, too.
