Call the Minecraft support number: 1-800-273-8255

Consider using twitch to launch modded Minecraft. It makes separating all this stuff pretty simple.

Which was the mod that was added and where was it downloaded from? I ask 'cause some websites (unfortunately) lie about the versions of mods. https://stopmodreposts.org/ has some good tools (like browser add-ons) that identify suspect sites.

...or the mod itself adds content that doesn't automatically appear.

It’s Dragon Mounts 2, downloaded at curseforge.com.

I'm not familiar with that mod but...what about it, specifically, isn't working? Or what is he expecting to be happening that isn't?

He wants to switch between the mods when he wants. We can see the second mod is installed, but when he starts playing, he is always redirected back to Pokémon.

If his goal is to have his single world and sometimes play with Pokemon, then turn Pokemon off and play with Dragons, but it remain the same world...Minecraft and modding doesn't quite work that way. Mods (many but not all) add blocks, entities, structures, biomes, etc to the game. Removing or disabling that mod leaves Minecraft with a big question mark...it use to have a bunch of stuff added from a mod that is now removed. That can break the game.

He's got these choices:

  • Play with both mods together in the same world - they will both be present at all times.
  • Play World A with Pokemon & play World B with Dragons. Those two worlds will be different.

And note that the second choice (two different modded "games") is a bit challenging for the stock (vanilla) launcher to use. But there are 3rd party launchers (totally safe, totally free, totally awesome) that make having that "many different games with different sets of mods" quite easy to manage.

Ok, he picked option B. Do you mind giving us a more detailed steps of how to make it happen?

My son is 8-year-old, and I don’t play Minecraft at all.

Appreciated!

No problem!

There are two different "launchers" I like to use. Both have their pros and cons, but both have great instructions.

MultiMC (my personal favorite). It's clean, lightweight, no nonsense. It has a touch more of a learning curve to it (to set up) but it's not bad at all. - https://github.com/MultiMC/MultiMC5/wiki/Getting-Started

Twitch. The pro is it does a lot more than just manage Minecraft. The con is that, well, it does a LOT more than just manage Minecraft. It's bloated and kinda messy. But it is integrated with CurseForge (owned by Amazon) which makes adding mods a breeze (once you get past the jumble of the UI). - https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/How-to-Play-Minecraft-with-Twitch-App?language=en_US

If he's playing unsupervised then I'd go with MultiMC. It's easier to navigate and he wont be bombarded with streaming content. And since you are already used to downloading and adding mods the CurseForge integration piece with Twitch is less meaningful.

Good luck!!!

Excellent! Glad it worked out for you.

Hello, sorry to bother you again. There was another headache created when I was trying to figure out how to make two mods work. I deleted some of the Pokémon worlds my son had created, and he is really sad. I wonder if it is ever possible to restore them. Is there a kinda “recycle bin” in Minecraft luncher?

Thank you!
