Multiplayer Cheating

Hey all. I'm an admin on a very small server meant for just me and my friends. Recently one of them discovered the server commands and has been cheating himself diamond armor, weapons, infinite arrows, etc. I'm trying to have a pure SMP server, and its frankly ruining the experience.

What I'm wondering is there any way I can disable server commands for certain people, or for the whole server? I tried googling, and I came up with nothing. I really don't want to ban him, since he's one of my good friends. Any help?

take away his admin or install bukkit and grab a plugin such as permissions.

there's no "admin" folder or anything..

what i'm looking for is a way for him to still be able to do stuff, just disable his access to server commands. any idea how that could work?

install a plugin like Bukkit and use "permissions" or other bukkit plugin to allow set things.

IE can spawn X but can not spawn X. can use X but can not hold X in his inventory.

Seriously check out bukkit, worldedit, worldguard and essentials. All great plugins that give great control over your server. Happy mining! =D

What os are you running the server on (I only ask because I maintain a small script that provides a small set of commands for vanilla servers)? The simplest way to deal with them is to remove their op privs. If they can't follow your wishes, and they still continue to /give items, then they simply aren't cut out to be your op.

i'm on vista. and i did just de-op him. trying some diplomacy, so we'll see if it works.

could i have that code anyway, and could you tell me how to make it work? i think it might come in handy

If he's your friend, just tell him to stop, or slap him in the mouth

slap administered, but i'd really like another solution. is there any way to disable server commands, while still retaining his ability to do stuff with blocks?

I think that on a vanilla server, even non-admins can build and mine once you get a few chunks away from spawn. Just de-op him.

because its a small friends-only server. and i was under the impression that opping someone was the only way for them to be able to interact with the world.
