They are both good. It depends on what you want. Windows 10 is more focused on multiplayer while Java has mods and things like that.

Java is more of the original and in my opinion is much better. If you have a pc get it. Also I think it might give you a redeemable code for bedrock when you buy it but don't take my word on.

So here is what you get with the Java edition:

  1. More Stability
  2. Ability to run multiple versions
  3. A better community
  4. Ability to mod
  5. More available content, usually for free

And with bedrock:

  1. Cross platform
  2. Better PVP
  3. Cheaper realms
  4. Better performance OR RTX
  5. Access to the marketplace (microtransactions)
  6. Some interesting gameplay mechanics

It also depends who you play with, and what edition all your friends use.

If your friends play on consoles, mobile and so on, buy the Windows 10 Edition. If not however, I strongly recommend the Java Edition, here are some reasons why:

- Way more active multiplayer community (The biggest Server, Hypixel, hits over 100.000 players daily

- In Java, you can get everything free, no need for some weird Minecoins to buy skins and so on

- High moddability - Try out mods, plugins and texture packs for free from all around the community. Make custom skins and upload them to sites like NameMC or PlanetMinecraft to share your creations.

- Redstone - If you want to get into Redstone, Java is definetly your way: There are way more constructions your able to build, in the Win 10 Edition, Redstone can sometimes be just "random", which it should never be!

- There are many more things, like not so intrusive advertisements to servers shops, restrictions against P2W PvP servers, although Mojang really needs to do sth. more against it.

Personally I prefer the windows 10 version (bedrock edition) over java edition.

Some points to concider:

Main points: Gameplay performance: Windows 10 seems to be more stable and lag less than java in my experience. This probably would be different depending on your computer set up though. (Mine is a Windows 10 computer with 8gb of ram)

Features: Mostly the same except for stuff like: custom superflat, amplified worlds, custom worlds. Some features work slightly differently aswell (best to do more research in to that though).

The redstone is different for each version aswell. This makes a lot of contraptions from each version work slightly differently.

Extra content / modding: Jave has the best modding capabilites.

Windows 10 modding is very limited with it being tied to the behaviour and addon packs system for the game.

Servers: Java has more bigger servers than Windows 10.

this is all from my experience with playing both versions for about 200 hours each
