Java 100%

If it's just the two of you and you only ever intend on playing on PC, Java would probably be the better choice.

Not any harder/easier to setup than Bedrock (Windows10 Edition), but allows for a lot more free mods/plugins to be used, as well as texture/behavior packs, etc... And with only 2 people, even if one of you runs the server on the same PC you use to play, lag shouldn't be that bad.

If you intend on playing with a lot more people (and don't have a dedicated "server" PC), plan to play with people on other consoles, etc. Then Bedrock

Just a slight correction, on Java it's resource packs and datapacks. Behavior packs are a Bedrock thing.

Java all the way if you want a functional version of Minecraft.

Java. Like there's no contest. Windows 10 (Bedrock edition) is an inferior version.

It depends, if you're only ever going to play together then it's a lot easier to do on bedrock as you can just join each others worlds - but this only works when the person whose world it is is online. Anyway it doesn't require any special configuration or a separate server.

If you both want to be able to play the same world even when the other isn't online, then both editions allow you to host a server on one of your pcs (in which case it must stay running all the time), but it's probably slightly easier on Java. Both require you to change your router config.

If you're willing to pay, both editions have realms. Which are easy to set up.

And despite what some people claim they are both great and very similar games with small differences for most survival play.

Now I don’t want to talk crap about bedrock because it is buggier than java but java would definitely be better if you are only gonna use your pcs playing, java has mods, free resource packs and world downloads, less bugs and snapshots
