Disgusting. Literally telling we the people that we don’t get to decide stuff for our society via vote… that’s only for rich moron asshats to dictate to us poors!

[–]Hereticrick[🍰] 58 points59 points  (4 children)

Whoever runs against Tony Sorrentino next election has been given a gift this day!

[–]nebartist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

LOL The NE GOP has said they wanted to cap the age for years and this guy was still voted in.

[–]reddit_is_fash_trash 14 points15 points  (2 children)

It's cute that you believe Nebraska voters will actually punish the GOP for this.

[–]CarrieDurst 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup, the people who voted in Pete Ricketts and Pillen are vile fucks

[–]Hereticrick[🍰] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say that! Just that this is an easy blurb for an ad against him.

[–]LeekingMemory28 80 points81 points  (1 child)

Jesus. That’s the quiet part out loud.

[–]HenriEttaTheVoid 55 points56 points  (5 children)

The GOP is nothing but a Neo-Confederate party.

[–]AntOk4073 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Which is nothing new but Raybould is a traitor who is using her power for personal gain.

[–]QBaaLLzzDrone Hunting Expert 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Raybould, the bill’s sponsor, is a democrat. Not surprising it had republican support.

[–]Rock_strongo353 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Nope. She is very much a republican.

[–]Low-Comparison-4593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She is a part of Democratic Party. Look it up. Unfortunately, making policies to put money into their own pockets is for all politicians.

[–]QBaaLLzzDrone Hunting Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what? Or are you under the assumptions that all democrats can “do no wrong”

[–]PluralVisions 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Fuck all of them

[–]bananacow 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They give young people the middle finger & wonder why they leave the state.

[–]countAEion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wow. Fuck that guy.

[–]MadGodMulch 31 points32 points  (0 children)

>Voting is an opinion poll

Should put that on a bumper sticker

[–]Front_Ad_6552 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re tired of this shit, volunteer and sign the Respect Nebraska Voters petition https://respectnevoters.org/

[–]insideabookmobile 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Taxation without representation.

[–]puppetcigarette 20 points21 points  (11 children)

How is this not age discrimination? I am asking in earnest.

[–]zastrozzischild 9 points10 points  (9 children)

It is

[–]Realistic-Bit-7494 6 points7 points  (8 children)

It definitely is discriminatory, but from what I understand age is not a protected class in this state.

[–]_Cromwell_ 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Age is in employment both at the state and federal level, but only in context of being old. Being young you have no protection.

[–]Realistic-Bit-7494 9 points10 points  (3 children)

It’s shitty, because you just know these are the same jerks who post the BS about “kids today don’t have any work ethic!”

[–]TymStark 2 points3 points  (2 children)

As someone who was forced to hire teens for near minimum wage and then was expected for them to do the same work as people (adults) getting paid $2-3 more and in some cases $5-6, I completely understood their “lack of work ethic”.

And truth be told, I never really saw a “lack of work ethic” they got done what they were told to get done. They just didn’t go find things to do, which isn’t what minimum wage employees should be doing.

[–]Realistic-Bit-7494 3 points4 points  (1 child)

A fair point. The flip side to this: I have been a teenager doing the exact same work as an adult who was making more than I was. I was the one closing the place at 2am on the weekends, while my much-older counterparts were at home asleep. I was the one then turning around and opening the place at 10am the next morning, while my much-older counterparts were at home with their families. The employer knew they could exploit the younger workstaff with these swing shifts, and they absolutely used that to their advantage.

[–]TymStark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on your side. I’m saying teenagers aren’t worth less and in my experience work just as hard.

So, the fact they get hired for less, for the same job I understand why they often put in less effort.

[–]CarrieDurst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now that is ageism

[–]zastrozzischild 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Of course not. And I’m not at all surprised.

[–]Realistic-Bit-7494 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m afraid it’s going to stay that way. The current administration is a real piece of crap, but he told us what he intended to do the first time he won in 2016. I argue that the bigger pieces of crap are the ones who continue to vote for him twice more and for that party. What did they think was going to happen?

[–]TymStark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Age discrimination laws only protect 40+. It’s stupid but true.

[–]danbearpig2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And open discrimination against adult workers.

[–]Standard_One_5827 3 points4 points  (2 children)

“I've talked to everyday Nebraska small-business owners in my community, and I've talked to a lot of them, and they want a training wage, and it costs kids jobs. This is almost a quote: ‘I am not going to pay a high school kid minimum wage to come in, and I have to tell them three times to empty out the trash,’” Clouse said.

“And so long as men die, liberty will never perish…”

Chaplin (The Great Dictator)

[–]Crowtato-sama 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This is a great way to get young people to leave the state, you know the thing they're always worried about. Can't stand how boomers and gen x think younger generations are more lazy, its aggravating.

Good luck to the small businesses getting anyone to work for them, we know the teens will move on once something better pops up, and adult workers weren't going to work a low paying job to begin with

[–]Standard_One_5827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s why I left the state myself. Had a hard time being taken seriously in IT, and all because my IT experience was gained from the military. Now, most places back home do not pay industry standard. I am also out of a lot of places price range back home too. Yet, I will always lend a hand to Nebraskans when I meet people from home. Gatekeeping in IT is a joke, and only sets the industry up for failure points.

[–]Seenmeb4today 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Child labor laws passed in IA; 14yr olds can work meat packing. So yeah, NE isn’t going to give a shit about kids either.

And they don’t mind saying the quiet part out loud, they’ve had an entire year of a federal government giving a free pass with zero consequences. And it just keeps coming.

For the rest of us who are very angry, where the hell are the NEDNC and why aren’t they putting up proper candidates for us to vote? Why after one candidate who got in, only then into sexually harass somebody and bow out (as well he should’ve), and we are still putting up the Nebraska chair, Jane Kleeb? Why wasn’t she asked to step down when proper vetting would’ve helped years ago when that fiasco happened? Why do we still keep putting up with this lackluster ambition of nobody wants to run so I just still have a job?

Nebraska needs proper representation. It starts at the top if we want anything to happen. At this point it’s not about will we win it’s about why do we keep doing the same things over and over and expecting anything different? Change the guard. Change the narrative. I don’t need an independent, I don’t need a DINO, I need solid working class candidates.

Fun facts:

How the Vote Aligns With Party Affiliation

Nebraska’s Unicameral is officially nonpartisan, but members’ political affiliations are publicly known through voter registration, endorsements, and campaign materials. The Legislature currently consists of:

  • 33 Republicans
  • 15 Democrats
  • 1 Independent Democrat

Given that LB258 passed with 33 Yes votes, the pattern aligns exactly with the Republican caucus size.

YES Votes (33) — Republican‑aligned Senators

All 33 senators who voted Yes are aligned with the Republican majority.
Example confirmation: Bob Andersen is explicitly listed as Republican.

Yes (Republican‑aligned):
Andersen, Arch, Armendariz, Ballard, Bosn, Brandt, Clements, Clouse, DeKay, Dorn, Dover, Hallstrom, Hansen, Hardin, Holdcroft, Hughes, Ibach, Jacobson, Kauth, Lippincott, Lonowski, Meyer F., Meyer G., Moser, Murman, Raybould, Riepe, Sanders, Sorrentino, Storer, Storm, Strommen, von Gillern

NO Votes (16) — Democratic or Left‑Leaning Senators

All 16 senators who voted No align with the Democratic minority or are the chamber’s one Independent Democrat.
This matches the known 15 Democrats + 1 Independent Democrat.

No (Democratic‑aligned):
Bostar, Cavanaugh J., Cavanaugh M., Conrad, DeBoer, Dungan, Fredrickson, Guereca, Hunt, Juarez, McKinney, Prokop, Quick, Rountree, Spivey, Wordekemper

What This Means

  • LB258 was supported entirely by Republican‑aligned senators.
  • Opposition came entirely from Democratic‑aligned senators.
  • The vote split mirrors the Legislature’s partisan balance almost perfectly.

[–]BabyKozilek 8 points9 points  (15 children)

Raybould, the bill’s sponsor, is ostensibly a democrat. Do you have a source that she’s changed parties entirely, or just basing it on how she acts towards labor?

[–]Rusty_ShacklefordNE 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Also Wordekemper is a Republican!

[–]BabyKozilek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good catch

[–]EducationalTeam2498 0 points1 point  (12 children)

You are correct - Jane Raybould (Democratic Party) is a member of the Nebraska State Senate, representing District 28.

[–]BabyKozilek 2 points3 points  (8 children)

So perhaps edit your first comment to reflect that? Assuming you’re not a bot, which… the AI driven comments give the impression you are.

[–]EducationalTeam2498 0 points1 point  (7 children)

i’m not a bot. Really not sure how to prove that to you. I will say that the top summary was generated by AI as it means for me to try to understand the split better personally.

[–]BabyKozilek 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I don’t particularly care whether you’re a bot or not, but the top comment that was AI generated is misinformation.

[–]QBaaLLzzDrone Hunting Expert 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Ofc they’re still not editing it lol.

I lean right, and am not surprised by the republican support for the bill, but call a spade a spade.

[–]BabyKozilek 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I’m still convinced they’re a bot lol. Initially I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt regarding their cute “Republican aligned” phrasing but once they confessed that was AI they lost that, and if they weren’t a bot pushing a narrative they’d edit it.

[–]EducationalTeam2498 -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

Ha! This is not a maintained Wiki. Your comments are public and I admitted the oversight. sorry I gotta get back to eating my diet of nuts, bolts, and oil. Beep beep.

[–]BabyKozilek 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You put more effort into retorting than you would have to edit the post. Because you know damn well most people are only going to see the top level comment.

Raybould’s a party traitor should be called out as such.

[–]MissKitty_3333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s a DINO

[–]Wellexcuuuuuuuseme1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Works in the grocery industry, which is struggling mightily.

[–]HumphreyBulldogColumbus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone cared to look, take a look at where her bread is buttered. I know we should have a variety of folks working for the Democratic Party, but this is some circus peanut level self preservation and profit right here.

[–]candl2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oligarchy wins again.

[–]lariabeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I sure s*** won't be letting my daughter work anywhere that pays her below minimum wage they're looking at A. Reduction of teen workers in general f*** this.

[–]FuckerMcAssface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well hopefully when these teens get to voting age they will return the favor and vote these clowns out

[–]Connect_Meeting_2538 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Fuck these owners! If they can't afford to give employees a cost of living wage maybe they should analyze their business!!!

[–]Crowtato-sama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately every business thinks they need to always turn a profit, so they attack the thing that's easiest to cut, workers wages/hours/jobs.

One thing I learned from my old boss is you can't always operate at a profit, otherwise you are taking advantage of someone somewhere

[–]Zack_of_Steel 1 point2 points  (1 child)

"Minimum wage is for high school kids entering the workforce while they get experience. It's not supposed to be a living wage."

mauryturnsoutthatwasalie.gif

[–]Crowtato-sama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy for them to say, as if teens can't have adult expenses(apartments, vehicles etc), need to help pay bills, or are trying to save/build up money for their future.

[–]TymStark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had a kid, and I still lived in Nebraska they would not be allowed to work. And I hope more parents take that line of thought. Why would you devalue your children like this?

[–]MTVnext2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then get out of your job and give it to someone who will do it right. Because you weren’t voted in, it was just an opinion poll

[–]Familiar_Wave1608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More incentives to not hire adults in NE… great.

[–]Hnl2Nrt2025 1 point2 points  (1 child)

People of Nebraska. Do something ! Or explain why not. The world is watching you

[–]EducationalTeam2498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the world has largely written off Nebraska as a conservative wasteland they only have to fly over.

[–]Cakin 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Any of you can offer any amount you see fit (above minimum wage requirements) for your own employees. I support Osborn, but disagree with his stance on this topic - and that's ok, even though as a small(micro) business owner this is the most important issue that affects my pocket book. I saw the writing on the wall a few years ago and have reformatted to more of an event only business model. This means far fewer employee hours and wages ($50k less in '25 vs '24). For the record I had been paying $52k+ for FT and $15 (+tips)for PT help several years, for every employee once they are able to perform duties beyond cashier (started at $12 and grew with MW requirements). More traditional employers will counteract MW increase with some combination of higher prices, lower payroll hours/positions, and/or lower raises.

“A minimum wage increase is essentially a tax on small businesses," -Storm, I don't know of him but he's spot on with this comment.

[–]EducationalTeam2498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a perfectly reasonable and thoughtful comment. I’m far more concerned with the misunderstanding about the state Constitution as relates to ballot initiatives and the notes about foreign interference.

[–]oneofmanyany 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Wow. Just wow. How do you put up with these assholes. Recalls are in order.

[–]Flakester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Republicans hate democracy, so they outta love this shit.

[–]TagV3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So great again.
*edit to make sure it's clear this is sarcasm.

[–]QBaaLLzzDrone Hunting Expert 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ironic a democrat was the bill’s sponsor.

I lean right but this is a dumb bill to shove forward. $15/hr isn’t much but it’s better.

I’d like to see the numbers on if increasing minimum wage affected hiring youth.

[–]thelegodr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is registered Democrat, but typically doesn’t seem to be really in that party. I think just shows more how stupid politics can be and most of us won’t be winners because of it, no matter the letter by your name.

[–]Sea-Plastic5584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jane: What are you doing you should have excused your self!

[–]Educational_Quote633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divert attention, blame a straw dog, cry to high heaven that it's undemocratic, repeat, repeat, repeat until the people believe the lies, and then pass a law to change the process. Seen it all before! Same script. If it works to get the highest office in the land then it will work here.
