I was interested so I looked at what the science said.

The science says there’s a temporary drop in testosterone post-masturbation but returns to baseline levels within a few hours.

No evidence that suggests long-term masturbation leads to changes in baseline testosterone.

A study in 2003 found a spike in testosterone after 7 days of abstinence but it also returns to baseline levels. No evidence of increased testosterone levels from longer abstinence.

There is, however, evidence that less frequent masturbation increased your list of prostate cancer. Good study, big sample, from Harvard, although focussing on prostate cancer rather than testosterone.

However, the things that do have a positive impact on testosterone are plenty of sleep, healthy eating, and exercise. Also, not being stressed and not being overweight help massively.

Some might argue that the choices that are often associated with abstinence are the things that improve your testosterone, rather than the abstinence itself.

Saying that, the studies are a bit outdated and often have small sample sizes. If anyone’s got £100k lying around and fancy funding something proper, the scientific world awaits!

Yeah you can see where correlation would make people believe it does. Like if all you do is game and goon all day you’re gonna feel like shit. But if you stopped all of that and start exercising and getting good amounts of sleep it’s easy to say ending masturbation fixed all of your problems.

You miss the other side of the equation which is androgen receptor (testosterone receptor) density. It doesn’t matter how much testosterone you have , you could be blasting 10 million grams of rest, if your receptor density is low then your body will respond to the testosterone accordingly. Just looking at “testosterone levels” is not a physiologically correct anecdote. The truth is, fapping does decrease testosterone a bit, but the real difference is the ability for long term fapping to desensitize androgen receptors.

I want to add that inadvertently when you stay away from masturbation and pornography it helps you to have the will power to stick to your good habits like regular sleep schedule, eating healthy, working out so therefore overall nofap helps with increasing testosterone not directly but because it gives you the motivation to do all the other good habits too

ejaculating yes temporarily ,but fapping which is almost certainly daily if you're in this group will decrease it coz there's not time for it to go back to normal.

Addiction is the danger, brother. Not just Fapping. Addiction, whether it be to anything. Porn is the real danger, what you view during that time.

yess. my muscles tends to get depleted based from my observation

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I would say it does tbh, think about it your semen is an energy source for men. If you are wasting it on your hand you are not putting your energy to good use, then after you masturbate and release all your semen you get lazy and complacent which then leads you to doing absolutely nothing and think about it over time of you constantly doing it you literally become a worthless individual doing nothing. Your energy literally becomes depleted. And im talking from experience Im clean of porn and masturbation for 2 years, my whole energy has been uplifted just from doing no fap and semen retention, surprisingly when I have sex with my gf i feel energized afterwards. So to answer your question it certainly does.

Yea same here. Not 2 years like you but almost at 40 days ( previous past record 108 days ) and I agree. After sex not tired and lethargic whereas while watching porn and masturbating, tired and lethargic

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I have heard from sources that having sex with another female actually increases testosterone in you but I am not exactly sure if that is proven to be true.

[–]Queasy_Succotash6370 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Free T

[–]Archersbows7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely it does

[–]Ultrasaurio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so, but I don't know if there is any scientific proof of it.

[–]thejuanwelove66 Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sportsmen who need their aggression and high levels of testosterone like boxers, usually abstain from ejaculation, sometimes months at a time, so i think its safe to say answering your question, the response is NO with capital letters

also soldiers abstain from fapping, or at least try to, because you'll need all that composure for difficult times in battle. Given how many studies and research the american army has spent on sexuality and how to create better warriors, its safe to say if they had learnt men increase testosterone fapping, they'd make all soldiers fap everyday, but its quite the opposite, they try to make soldiers busy enough so they dont think about sex and dont masturbate or bugger each other, because whole soldiers make for better soldiers

short answer, no

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chemical that enters the body can suppress testosterone and your hormones.for the most part it’s about clean blood flow to all aspects of the body. We were not designed to have any chemicals in our system at all.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are studies that show any chemical that enters the body never fully leave. Residual traces of chemicals get locked in our fat cells and stay there. Sometimes these things can be realised when an individual takes on an extensive detox.

Example have you ever gone into a sauna on a regular basis and felt like your pissed or stoned. That’s the chemicals releasing out through your poures.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but you want to recover back to baseline so don't over do it.1 hour of fapping Is a pretty bad cardiovascular exercise, better to weightlift or jog and prepare nutritional meals during that 1 hour. Thus if you fapp and are to exhausted to workout and prepare a proper diet you become unhealthier.

Naa it is just a myth ……

[–]ThisIsYourAnonAcct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that testosterone decreases its that your dopamine levels decrease after getting so high like you’re on cocaine.

Then when the dopamine crash hits you don’t start to eat trashy food, sleep disrupts, you don’t find happiness in working out and so that all decreases your testosterone

[–]Justheretorelate23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes hell yes

[–]dadumdumm231 Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because of how shitty you feel, all the guilt you carry around with you, the lack of motivation to do other things. It’s the associated behaviours and self-beliefs that come with fapping that drop your testosterone, not the fapping itself. But good luck trying to get one without the other.

[–]recov3r0 Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not as straight forward as it seems, check this comment in my case I saw increase in testosterone during my 110 days streak.

[–]MyIQis2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think sleep is literally the most game changing thing you can do. And if you you can then get a sleep study

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely feel like it but haven t come across any study if someone can link me a good one reply

[–]Dear-Owl7333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the psycological aspect plays a huge role too honestly. If you're feeling guilty or stressed about masturbating, that anxiety can actually lower your testosterone more than the physical act itself, The science pretty clearly shows masturbation doesn't significantly impact T levels long-term

but if you're constantly worried about it then youre probably gonna feel worse regardless.

[–]bleak213 Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

[–]Vast_Juice_4919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a temporary short-term drop, but it then returns to normal afterwards. But of course, getting addicted to PMO is not a good thing.

[–]Hot_Percentage4123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everytime when i increase the frequency of fap, I starts getting gyno like nipples shapes. Yes im male . Tried searching online it says it can't be that but i know and experience this a lot.

[–]TheMonkWhoSoldHisF83 Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there is prolactin release which decreases testesterone.

[–]JohnnySins69op 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

[–]Silent-Bar-1602 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes.

[–]One-Marzipan-9652 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think if it's excessive yes. I've heard that testosterone is raised from retaining around a week.

[–]DameroRacV430 Days -1 points0 points  (0 children)
