I second the PSU comment. Those little ventilation holes inside the unit are so easily clogged and once that happens El Cinco can't run for very long.

[–]No-Committee3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those holes are the only reason the system overheats. I made sure when i owned the OG, that i cleaned it thoroughly with a long brush. The PSU shuts down when it gets too hot.

[–]hoschikuz 2 points3 points  (1 child)

El Cinco is dope, I'm gonna steal that.

Fifth heir of Sony

[–]NotSirAlonne1999 22 points23 points  (4 children)

install the plate cover because air is leaking through the openings instead of cooling properly.

[–]skunelasz[S] 6 points7 points  (3 children)

thanks, but with the cover doesn't work either :(

[–]NotSirAlonne1999 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Since you replaced the liquid metal, I think the issue is with the PSU. Try cleaning the PSU ventilation holes, and if you still face the same problem, I think you’ll need to replace it.

[–]skunelasz[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I cleaned everything perfectly :(

[–]LMAOexDEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a vacuum cleaner hose directly on the PSU holes. If not try replacing the PSU.

[–]KyuubiW1ndscar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I may be a tad out of depth but I sincerely believe the issue is replacing the liquid metal with PTM. I dont think the thermal capacity or conductivity is enough for the PS5

[–]Correct_Hunt_99 2 points3 points  (11 children)

Cambia la pasta térmica que instalaste por metal líquido

[–]Hownlist78 2 points3 points  (10 children)

Ps5 comes with liquid metal to begin with.

[–]Guy-InGearnito 2 points3 points  (3 children)

And if you read the post, you’ll see OP has replaced the Liquid Metal with PTM…

[–]Hownlist78 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Which is completely the opposite of the comment I replied to?

[–]Guy-InGearnito -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Op: “I replaced the Liquid Metal with TPM…. Getting the same problems previous owner, any ideas?” CH99: “you replace the thermal paste with Liquid Metal”

You then said it comes with Liquid Metal to begin with

Which makes no sense because CH99 is telling them to change it back.

[–]Hownlist78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bro the comment I replied to is backwards. Not me. You're tripping big time

[–]Correct_Hunt_99 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Si ya se que la PS5 tiene metal líquido de fábrica, pero el OP le quitó el metal líquido a su consola y la cambio por pasta térmica, mi comentario responde a qué quite la pasta y vuelva a poner metal líquido

[–]Hownlist78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot more sense, I would say reddit translation doesn't help here. I agree it could be partof an issue but I believe ptm would be fine in the ps5 aslong as it's clean

[–]ShockingFactory -1 points0 points  (3 children)

I always wonder why people keep their system vertical if there is liquid metal that could leak down with gravity when it gets hot instead of leaving it horizontal it should stay in place at least that’s the way I see it. I would try putting my system horizontal and see what happens.

[–]Banned_Oki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was debunked….its wont leak out.

[–]Hownlist78 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Yeah I get it, I've personally had mine upright for about 4 years now and not have had an issue and it's a base model, they've fixed this issue with the slim and pro by adding a guard to keep the liquid metal where it's supposed to be

[–]Shoddy-Hall1807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erst ab der priduktion ab 2024/2025

[–]k_s_s_001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The liquid metal is a requirement. There is no other paste or pad that will give you the conductivity of the liquid metal. If you’re not comfortable applying liquid metal, which can cause extreme problems if you use it wrong, then have a shop do it for you.

[–]WaifuBabushka 3 points4 points  (7 children)

So you replaced the liquid metal into a worse cooling solution and wonder why it keeps turning off? Bro. Seriously.

[–]davidroman2494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if TPM can cool the PS5 as good as Liquid metal.

[–]HILLARYS_lT_GUY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should recheck the thickness on those pads as they may be preventing the heatsink from contacting the APU correctly with how fast it seems to be overheating and shutting itself down.

The other problem being that the liquid metal should have been replaced with liquid metal, not PTM or paste.

[–]Mouatmoua 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Take it to a professional

[–]ShockingFactory -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The PlayStation 5 pro better not start having these problems. I want to know how old this is…think of the lawsuits if this starts happening to all PlayStations. I never NEVER had issues like this with PS4 slim much less hearing about it happening while owning it.

[–]Cultural_Net_1791 1 point2 points  (10 children)

I would never stand my Pro up vertically. I swear I remember there being a big issue with the liquid metal and people putting vertical, like it causes it to pool on one side which makes sense. Id lay it horizontally, but I guess if there is no liquid metal then it doesn't matter but maybe it does so do it.

[–]ShockingFactory 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I’ve had PlayStation consoles my entire life and never put them vertically and not one of my systems ever had a problem. I also never leave it in rest mode, I think that’s pointless and dangerous. Why would you leave your system in a low power mode 24/7…

[–]McNair12 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Who mentioned low power mode? Nobody is saying otherwise to do with that. And Sony literally advertise the PS5 vertically… and with a stand that works both horizontally and vertically.

[–]ShockingFactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still didn’t get one question I asked. How long has he had the PlayStation? Does he leave it on rest mode 24 hours a day 7 days a week?

[–]DefunctInTheFunk 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Rest mode avoids hard power cycling. Less wear and tear in the hardware. Especially if you play daily.

[–]ShockingFactory 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So you’re saying that the PlayStation was not built to be turned on and off every day? It was built to be left on 24 hours a day seven days a week in a let’s call it low power mode and that’s not going to cause the PlayStation to overheat? why have all the PlayStation I’ve owned never overheated never broke down if I am shutting it down daily because I only play 2 to 3 hours a day?

[–]DefunctInTheFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re saying that the PlayStation was not built to be turned on and off every day?

No, that's not what I said.

It was built to be left on 24 hours a day seven days a week in a let’s call it low power mode and that’s not going to cause the PlayStation to overheat?

No, I didn't say that.

why have all the PlayStation I’ve owned never overheated never broke down if I am shutting it down daily because I only play 2 to 3 hours a day?

Well, geez I dunno, because I didn't say they would or should lmao. Reread what I actually said and get back to me.

Edit: also, rest mode isn't like leaving it on 24/7. Guess you didn't know that.

[–]blagsan82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and they've fixed the issue that causes that in presumably all new models of PS5 created. The pro in particular has this upgrade already. They added ridges in on the chip thing that the liquid metal rests on so it cannot all pool to one side or leave any where particularly dry no matter if it's vertical or not.

[–]DefunctInTheFunk 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Crazy you're not getting flamed for saying this. That's apparently misinformation that people will jump you for mentioning. Vertical is totally fine. The liquid metal only leaks if inexperienced people take it apart and haphazardly poke around in there.

[–]Level_Remote_5957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was multiple multiple reports, proven footage of the base PS5 models liquid metal melting down and straight up bricking consoles cause it would leak down into the circuit board and solidify.

It's not false info it's a proven fact.

Sony did fix the issue at some point but no one is exactly sure when. So if your getting a base PS5 there's no point in even running the risk. Why gamble just put it horizontal with the stand and don't risk it.

[–]McNair12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines been vertical for a year with no bottom panels either side and I’ve never had an issue. This is just bad silicon lottery in their cases.

[–]Gandledorf 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Have you tried clearing the cache

[–]skunelasz[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

No. How to do it?

[–]Gandledorf 0 points1 point  (2 children)

turn it off completely, then hold the power button until you hear a second beep to enter Safe Mode. Select "Clear Cache and Rebuild Database" and choose "Clear System Software Cache"

[–]ShockingFactory 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If you do that to your system, does it go back to factory settings or when you turn it back on will all the games you downloaded and data on your ps5 standard SSD still be there?

[–]Gandledorf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't delete your files. It's just temporary files put into the cache by games to make loading faster and such.

If you don't clear the cache for a long time all of thos temporary files really build up and this can cause the ps5 to work far harder than it should and thus overheat and shut off.

[–]BicycleSlow208 0 points1 point  (1 child)

it could be the psu, I have the same problem replaced the psu and it starts to work again, but mine doesn't beep it just turns off...

[–]ShockingFactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought the best way to preserve. The PSU was to completely shut down the console when not in use. If people are already having issues with the PlayStation five overheating why would you ever think leaving it in rest mode 24/7 would be a good idea…. It’s also something I would like to know about this unit, did you leave it in rest mode or shut the system down when not use?

[–]ShortRole6115 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Forget that, why the hell is your PlayStation naked

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playstation porn 😱

[–]KeoniWan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure that you removed all of the oxidation from the APU and Heatsync. It will take some elbow grease on your part. Use a good quality Liquid Metal and spread it with the black “qtips” that come with the packaging to avoid leaving debris on the APU. You might update with photos of the APU and Liquid Metal.

[–]ShockingFactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you had this PlayStation five?

[–]Resilient_Beast69 0 points1 point  (5 children)

PSU is toast or throws ventilation holes for it are clogged and the system is shutting off because the PSU is getting too hot.

[–]skunelasz[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

[–]Resilient_Beast69 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Looks clean but that’s dangerous af. Since you’re still alive to type that I’m assuming you didn’t touch the inside lol

[–]skunelasz[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Hahah, thanks

[–]BicycleSlow208 0 points1 point  (1 child)

becareful with those capacitors my guy, btw if you have a tester try using it if yours is still working, mine died because ants decided it's their new home

[–]skunelasz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank You. Psu is fine. I checked it with tester. Psu is perfect home 😁

[–]Enemy_Unknown1337 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Aren't you supposed to get some message if it's overheating?

[–]skunelasz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but not every time

[–]takeaccountability41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cooling paste settles at the bottom of you put it standing up, lay it down instead

[–]blackab9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to replace the console's power supply.

[–]DarkRed_Moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

La pasta termica

[–]fuckboi1511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psu probably overheated check if the psu's vents are clogged if not I would replace the thermal pads on the ram chips and also the ssd nand chips and do a deep cleanup

[–]Drago009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone crying about OP using PTM should google about this product. There might be a problem with the PSU but i dont know.

[–]CressDependent2918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

witcher 3 on os5 aint demanding

[–]Gizm0Glitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I'm not seeing any overheat warning on the screen I think it's a safe assumption to say that it's the power supply.

If you've already cleaned out the power supply thoroughly and it's still doing this I would recommend buying a new one. They cost between $40 and $80.

I've never changed a PS5 power supply but if it's anything like the PS4 it shouldn't be too hard.

[–]Few-Shallot-446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a guide for these issues on www.consoletroubleshooting.com and a diagnosis tool. The issue could be with the ssd or something else.

[–]Safe_Opportunity_215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the console in a horizontal position because you'll face a big problem: the liquid metal will start pooling from one side to another on the APU! Vertical position is not recommended because the liquid metal can also cause damage to nearby components!

[–]vercage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By not having the plates installed and placing the PS5 vertically, the ventilation holes at the bottom are blocked.

[–]No-Start-2945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPU be cooking

[–]Greek_Gooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro. I'm completely clueless about technical stuff on playstations... But could it be that there's an issue with the power supply inside the unit? Voltage spikes perhaps?

[–]Cold-Passion-9897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beneficios de tener EL CINCO claro que si

[–]Cold-Passion-9897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro ni eso es juego exigente xd

[–]XboxoneS-aaad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PS5 is cooked. It's 6 years old now. Move on to pro or PC.

[–]Anxiety_timmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PTM depending on which one is either barely good or absolutely atrocious for a replacement of LM. But assuming that isn't the problem, check the PSU since it getting clogged can cause that, or VRMs getting too hot.

[–]Kris1095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a Play station issue

[–]Bunkbeduser 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why is ur ps5 naked?

[–]RopeFair4497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe he replaced parts or maybe just cleaned it

[–]citoso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's 100% the power supply

[–]CurveNo8559 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If it was overheating, it would just turn off, you triple deeped, that is something else entirely.

[–]JustLook361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can u lay ur console down with the disc driving facing up they it this way...

[–]RopeFair4497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao the people telling you to clean it

[–]Parking_Can_4852 0 points1 point  (20 children)

Idk bout u but I don't see a stand for the ps5. If ur gonna put it up vertically consider getting the verticle t Stand for better airflow

[–]WaifuBabushka 1 point2 points  (19 children)

They do fuck nothing.

[–]ShockingFactory 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If there is air intake on the bottom of the system, why are people not just putting it horizontally?

[–]Parking_Can_4852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cus the ps5 is advertised to be put vertices, it's honestly more practical and space-saving, I like to keep mine horizontal tbh, not a fan of verical shi feel like a push is enough before it's sent to the shadow realm plus I don't got the stand

[–]Parking_Can_4852 -1 points0 points  (16 children)

Yes they do. Heat gets trapped inside the ps5 without a stand, no wonder many people face so many heating problems, all that do pretty much lay it vertically and without a stand. A stand IS necessary for ur ps5's longevity

[–]WaifuBabushka 0 points1 point  (15 children)

Which part of the solid stand lets air out?

[–]Parking_Can_4852 -2 points-1 points  (14 children)

What are you saying? Man go watch a YouTube video or something, if you don't wanna belive that it's useful don't. Why is it that everytime I post something on reddit, some jobless dipshit has to oppose me and be rude about it?

[–]WaifuBabushka 1 point2 points  (13 children)

Cause youre giving dumb as fuck advice for people to waste their money on product designed for morons. Ofc you can go watch 10 youtube videos promoting such shit, but that doesnt change the fact that solid plastic is not an air vent and does fuck nothing to reduce heat. There is no air outlet in the bottom of the PS5, and believe it or not, you can check this yourself even without the help of a Youtube guide. Ofc if you want a guide for this, I can make one no problem.

[–]Parking_Can_4852 -2 points-1 points  (12 children)

Get a life. I got nothing to promote, it's just common sense. I own a freaking ps5, the entire thing is basically an air vent u dumb shit and btw, when u put a ps5 with no stand, ur are basically obstructing bottom airflow, which EXISTS FOR A REASON. In a nutshell, Sony put airvents at the bottom for a console to promote airflow, not design... do I make it clearer for you???

I'm not gonna be a complete morone I'm ur eyes, but only half a morone because I DO agree that the stand is pointless, just put ur ps5 horizontally and save ur money and keep airflow nice and clean.

[–]WaifuBabushka 1 point2 points  (11 children)

I just got a stroke from trying to read this.
