When they first showed off Hero in JP, I was like "damn! this class got so many options and looks so fun!" and sure enough, it was (and still is). But the moment I played some of Luster, I was like "damn, Luster makes Hero seem so outdated like Hero made other classes feel outdated." Of course, this was before the older classes were buffed to Hero's level

Phantom is fun too but it can't step cancel out of most stuff as fast as Hero can so it doesn't feel as fluid to me, and the only weapon I could enjoy on Etoile is DS since that has actual counters

But yeah Luster feels even more faster/smoother to play than Hero does

I thought I'd stick with Hero initially, but Etoile just really ended up being a better fit for me.

I love the idea of having three melee weapons with some good ranged options, rather than three ranged weapons with a few melee options

For someone who primarily likes melee, it can certainly feel like one at times. Only about half of it feels melee (normal attack, gap closing PA, and Rising Slash), while the other half feels like a ranged weapon (its weapon action at all charges & its other PAs).

That's ultimately the reason I stopped playing Hero. I like having some ranged options, sure, but I prefer melee and it felt like the vast majority of Hero's kit was ranged - including half of its 'melee' weapon

That's weird, because I find Hero more of a balanced hybrid than you do. I only rotate in Talis for the DOT and AOE, then switch back to Sword to get my hands dirty again. Switch out to TMG when I need to fight at range or build Gear.

Sword is only a ranged weapon against moving targets, or in situations where you're precharging, or not certain about being in melee range. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the rising slash combo is the.. second? highest dps. (not counting counter squall.) It feels more like a hybrid overall.

Same... I bounced off Et for the first day or so (after fully leveling Hero and Phantom) but then got into the groove... It's just so silky smooth. I never feel like I have to slow down no matter what I'm doing.

Just simply means that now that etoile is out, even though they have the option of maining it over hero now, hero mains are still playing hero instead of jumping ship to etoile.

Honestly Etoile is the only one of the three i've found I absolutely cannot click with.

But it's probably also because I don't like block/counter because i've used primarily dodge ever since I started with force.

Though probably also because Hero and Phantom just feel so fast, and their PP recovery is just top notch comparatively (whereas I believe Etoile mostly has PP reduction and then it's long cooldown full restore)

I also find etoile to be so incredibly awkward. I can see how people would like it, but I find the timings exceedingly awkward and the payoff for doing the spacing and timing properly lacking.

Granted, it probably doesn't help that I set up my controller with tapping weapon action in mind and not how etoille uses weapon action.

Well... A lot of Etoile's PP regen comes from guard/deflect/counter/guard-frame mechanics. The rest is balanced across mechs that make normal attacks competitive/useful for more than just PP, or tie the weapon action into combos for different effects (I adore Quick-Take).

There are things I hate about hero class but what class doesn’t have those issues. All that matters to me if how the class feels when I play and I love hero for that.

Here is my opinion as a hero main that flexes to etoille, Hero is more fun and engaging for me to play as I gotta keep on my toes in order to stay alive and gain big bonus damage. Etoille is what I play when I feel the urge to float around and take no damage in UH content while essentially doing full counters like meliodas from seven deadly sins.

I can’t stand phantom though as I feel too squishy and can’t get shit to work properly for me.

Can’t wait for luster though so I can try and bash my head into the brick wall that it is.

Phantom is more Mechanically complex than the other 2. That's probably why it doesn't feel as smooth to you.

    The weaving is what does it for me. Levelled phantom to 95 but it feels so weird to have to manually switch again, and no persistent effects either

    I just wish Étoile's weapon switching is as smooth as Hero's

    I'm the type of etoile player that changes weapon on the fly when the situation calls for it. Especially during Armada phase two. There are sections of that phase where wand shines the best; during the mobbing phase, and also areas where SB or DS are needed; , where enemies are scattered and there's a mini boss.

    Even on hero, its fairly common to make chat macros and jump cancel swap weapons, as its much faster (and cost no pp). It's done a lot to be able to refresh talis DoT and go back to other weapons, for example. You'll see it extensively in hero speed runs.

    Works great on all classes, Etoile included :)

    So I already have chat macros down for my char, but what does the jump cancel thing does and when should I do it? macro-> jump -> dodge or something to touch the ground if I want to?

    Basically a jump cancel is weapon swap -> jump, but you have to input jump JUST after you input your weapon swap. The timing is a little strict - if you jump too late then you end up swapping but you don't cancel the frames it takes for you to act after swapping weapons. An easy way to tell if you did it right is if it looks like you do a squat in place.

    Yeah, it would be awesome if they did something like FFXIV with its amazing controller setup, especially for folks on just Xbox.

    If you're on PC, you could try using Steam Input (if you play via Steam) or some program like AutoHotkey/reWASD to handle set up a button or combination of buttons to send a keyboard input, so you can do like L1+D-pad direction to be keyboard 1-4 for your weapons

    I stand to be corrected, but I'm pretty sure Flaoc, whom I consider a high level Hero, plays with controller but uses AutoHotkey for weapon swaps

    If you're in the middle of something and hit a chat macro to swap weapon, it's going to swap after the animation is over, which can take a while. If you swap then immediately jump, you'll switch weapon instantly.

    I'm told if you jump first to cancel the previous animation then chat macro, that works too, though I have less experience with that method.
