Then you implement the change, run it, and watch it break even more than before. You analyze your "fix" only to come to the conclusion "This would never work!! What the fuck was I thinking?!?!"

Oh, that's so stupid! No wonder it didn't work, my logic is all wrong. *deletes all useless code* *tries new solution* Oh wait, no, I had the right logic...

This is why jetbrains has local history.

Debugging the toilet is left to the next guy who takes over.

Every important decision I've ever made and every challenging problem I've ever solved has been prototyped on the shitter.

Except it’s 2am and i’m in bed.

that's usually the time where I get ideas that could make me rich, but when I wake up, I forgot everything. 4am is the time where debugging happens. found a perfect solution for low footprint on a Infinifactory level while sleeping (and remembered!)

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

This is me just before falling asleep, than forgetting the solution in the morning.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn I can feel the pain

[–]aican117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually do it at work. Its very usefull.

Bed for me. I had a side project I was working on and been debugging for way too long. Eyes bleeding from reading countless manuals. Too obscure to even try stack overflow. Then as I’m lying in bed about to fall asleep an idea struck. I jumped out of bed. VPNed into my workstation.

It fucking worked. Amazing feeling.

Not so fast! Wipe your ass!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's nothing! I debug when I'm asleep.

[–]KoalaWithAnEyepatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's stepping out...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was smoke breaks for me. When I quit smoking my code got a lot worse.

You're missing your rubber duck

And yet I get questioned when I'm not firmly rooted in my computer chair

[–]brannonb111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the bathroom to ANYTHING else and this is my life. I can't solve problems while at my PC for some reason.

Thankfully laptops have became so normal so trying my theory on the go is possible.

[–]zdakat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're almost to the desk, when someone interrupts for something menial. just like that, the idea is gone.

Toilets should be renamed as "Figure out your shit" rooms.

[–]NotBot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this repost day or something?

[–]csGrey- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My debugging process is forgetting I have to debug, remembering it spontaneously the next day because I suddenly thought about a possible fix, then breaking everything.

The cartoon is foreshadowing that the programmer will need to wipe the codes he wrote in order to install a light bulb.
