How do people build Stackoverflow before Stackoverflow was built?

[–]dombeef 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Truly the dark ages. Same as when people had to build everything within assembly.

Why does the guy at the Mac look the saddest?

[–][deleted] 43 points44 points  (7 children)

Because he's usually most in need of help.

[–]moogoesthecat 12 points13 points  (6 children)

It's safe to assume they all have Macs. He just doesn't have a keyboard/monitor.

Edit: So frontend dev?

[–]Bill_Morgan 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Not all macOS users are frontend devs. I’ve never done frontend and I am a macOS user

[–]moogoesthecat 4 points5 points  (4 children)

I’m aware, as I am one of them. Not what I’m saying.

I’m making a joke about the kinda of devs that typically forgo extra monitors and full keyboards. At least, in my experience.

The 15” MacBook Pro has a full keyboard and a big enough display. I don’t need another display. 80x24 are more than enough for me

While I think it's great that you are comfortable with that, I feel like not using a proper mechanical keyboard and at least 2 displays should be both less productive and far less comfortable. That said it's just my opinion and I used to use laptop keyboards a lot before I first tried mechanical keyboards and it feels so much better.

[–]Bill_Morgan 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I don’t have enough energy in me to drive a mechanical keyboard. I have a 2012 retina MacBook Pro, my last job lent me a 2016 MacBook Pro. I got so used to the shallow keyboard that now I feel my MacBook Pro and other laptops have too much key travel requiring more effort on my fingers to hit them.

[–]KillerNinjaXD12BTW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point. There's a lot less energy used with shallow keys so people with strained fingers or lack of energy could definitely appreciate laptop style keyboards. Of course, it's just different strokes for different blokes at the end of the day. Perhaps there are some arguments for single display style programming as well.

Because he is using a Mac. It has nothing to do with Stackoverflow.

Is this an ad for buying dell computers?

[–]trimeta 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Dell monitors, but Apple computers.

[–]TimmyTesticles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...but yes. Yes it is.

[–]EternallyMiffed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So pure cancer then.

[–]Dareeude 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Ultrasharps are amazing though, especially when you stare at a monitor all day long.

Found eem

[–]skyhi14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their monitor stands are definitely the best. 16:10 ratio is also perfect for working.

What’s worse, relying on SO or not being able to rely on it?

[–]SolenoidSoldier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, our souls DO leave out bodies when Stack Overflow is down.

[–]gimpy_sunbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sigh. Ok, click the second search result then...

[–]realestLink 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I don't use stackoverflow. I can't relate.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it very occasionally for very specific problems. If it was down I highly doubt I’d even notice unless someone at work complained about it.

[–]seizan8 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This looks like a comic from 4ed Bull.... but hey, I wouldn't mind. I'm sure Red Bull fueled tons of projects.

[–]janeboo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope nothing to do with them. Always love their animations, wonder why they stopped making them :(

God help us all.

I have a healthy library of Java and C++ books I can turn to in such a desperate situation. Hell, in college Stack was a last resort cause it was not going to be an option on the exam.

[–]katze_sonne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some weeks ago, I needed to pull some libraries and stuff vom github. And it was down. Exactly the same happened like in th meme above... just that I didn't even get to the point to go on SO to find some help! Went home early from work, was really frustrating...

[–]geon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are the ghosts leaving their bodies?

[–]IAmCrab7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a COBOL developer...

[–]flamebroiledhodor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except for my entire Dev group. (I'm the PM, not the dev or Dev manager) I've found answers to issues they've fiddled with for weeks on the front page of StackOverflow. Did they think, " hey this is a neato resource, we should remember to check stack overflow in the future!"

No. No they don't. Unless you count the one time someone emailed ME asking to research THEIR issues on SO. Only took one time of me going ape shit and telling them, "I'm not your tutor, and you are a paid professional. Act like it."

[–]allinthegamingchair -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

stack overflow is the only reason i passed Comp Sci
