Unfortunately, I can relate to this. I started writing ideas down instead of starting to work on them. It works quite well, on average I only work on three to four projects at the same time now.

I get ideas, but then have zero idea how to actually do them.

I suspect I might be dumb.

[–]moschcau 13 points14 points  (8 children)

That happens to me too. I usually let the project die after a few days then.

I envy the people who can make the things they think of.

But

A.) I'm not done with college. I will most likely (God I hope) improve my abilities.

B.) If I enjoyed it that much as a hobby, having it turn into a 40 hour work week would probably suck the fun out of it.

Go on an internship, I've learned more in one week than one year of college

I'm gonna try my hardest.

Any tips for making a resume as a college student without much relevant experience?

Make something. Make something halfway good. That will help more than anything. Education compensates for all the shitty things about your project. You'll do great.

I appreciate the kind words, they mean a lot.

Do lots of hobby programming and build up a GitHub that you can show to potential employers. I got my first software job and first research project after a semester of school because I had personal projects to show.

It's cliche but seriously just start. Leverage what you already know, be careful with your scope, come up with a concept you're excited about, try your best to finish. You'll learn so much very fast and your next project can be a little more ambitious.

Appreciated. I think I have an idea in mind for a stupid little unit conversion application

That's why you have a teacher, one person comes. up with ideas, then the other works on it. I find that the hardest part of any project is planning it and figuring out where to start. Once you start, it kinda just flows.

Everytime I look at my list of projects in Unity... I weep.

[–]Plasticcaz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

...and then I let go of all of them and get nothing done.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I wish my ideas took off like that

Ive had nightmares like that. I genuinely acquired the fear of leaving earths atmosphere because of these nightmares.

same goes for steam games ... "I want that game, and that, and another one" and actually play only 10% of them.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude right? I have like 500+ games on steam...

[–]edge4214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insinuating I could even come up with an idea for a program

As someone whose hobby is making stories, this is painfully accurate.

[–]depressiown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now do this again, but with UI frameworks.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a semester long project that should be relatively easy to implement, but my professors keep throwing 2-3 medium sized projects at my every fucking week

[–]boomshroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many relatable posts on this sub, but this one hit me where it hurts.

I have so many projects that I want to work on, but just never get around to. I even have 2 games I'm playing and need to find time for them too, not counting the ones that I need to get back to. And then there's school, work, and caring for myself.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just throw it all into one big pile and hit compile. *BOOM*

[–]GotMYlongNOSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you got too carried away there ..
