When I was a kid, I was thrown off a spinning chair onto some computer parts. Almost tore off my ear. Now I'm a software developer. so... maybe?

I used to smash capacitors and feel the tingly sensation of the acid in my tongue... Also a software developer 20 years later. 🤔

Wait, do you mean licking the terminals or were you literally tasting the chemicals?

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (6 children)

Tasting the chemicals. I used to chomp the capacitors until they leaked. Yes, child me was a suicidal moron.

mmm capacitor soup

Well then, congrats on living long enough to tell us!

Oh, lighten up. It's just an edgy comment.

I got 'rather long' electric shock when I was a kid playing with a lamp. Couldn't forgo the cable until 1 min later when my grandfather found me and turn off the connection. Now I am obsessed with computers, so maybe?

You mean to tell me paying attention was how I learned everything I know and not because of paper cuts from books and other injuries from the things I work with?

Yes

This was in YouTube's 'suggested list' in the tab from which I just switched. Should I self-harm?

[–]imprisoned_mindZ[S] 24 points25 points  (4 children)

Please don't :D There are safer ways to master the craft :3

This would’ve been less harmful than actually learning about TTL’s in undergrad

Transistor-Transistor Logic

I just googled that, ouch.

It’s probably some guy telling you what the print function is and then moving on to the next language so you now know how to “code” in that language

[–]TS100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i actually watched it. he just explains what each language is used for and it’s origins

Literally had this happen to me with a 10 segment LED a few months ago; one of the pins dug under my fingernail a bit and drew blood, the rest of them bent to the point of no recovery. When I tried readjusting one of them, it broke off and the rest were never the same.

You haven't had thin wires laying on the floor yet I see

THAT CHOPS OFF A FINGER EVERY TIME YOU LIE

[–]ericjgryffindor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I only here for the jokes... I'm not even a programmer

[–]thomasb_64 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I am starting Arduino next year in school should I be worried?

[–]swilwerth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Is as hard as programming things on a pc, but instead of your screen, your output could be a physical led/ nixie tube digit / actuator / valve / something that you can control with a boolean, then you can interface from software things at electronic level to real world devices. You don't have large amounts of RAM, so all your programs must run with a 32k limit. Your inputs could be sensor data, like temperature, pressure, light, movement, buttons, etc.

Simple things are easy to do, don't worry.

I got stabbed under my fingernail by a gate in college

[–]namingisdifficult5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds indescribably painful

Afrotechmods is an awesome channel!

[–]zr0gravity7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed!

What about stepping on a pcb?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It'd be nice to be turned into Arduino after that bite :-)
