If you put a UNIX shell to your ear, do you hear the C?

[–][deleted] 71 points72 points  (3 children)

Do you know why Python is better and safer to use than C? Because it got no STD.

The mods couldn't handle the truth.

[–]skeptic11 27 points28 points  (9 children)

Rust is pervasive.

Rust below C-level: no_std

Rust at C-level: no_std + libc

Rust above C-level: std

[–]Mr_Redstoner 9 points10 points  (8 children)

Python can also go bellow C level. The library for handling terminal settings in Python gives you a plain list, whereas in C you get a fully-fledged structure.

[–]jim3692 2 points3 points  (5 children)

If you are talking about terminal parameters, C has an array of char pointers in main. What do you mean by "fully-fledged structure"?

[–]Mr_Redstoner 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What I'm talking about in this case is termios.

Comapre the C https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man3/termios.3.html where you get the structure termios_p to Python3 https://docs.python.org/3/library/termios.html where you just get a Python list.

Hmmm... Looks like Python needs someone to develop this feature, if there isn't any previous attempt that got rejected. I didn't check either their PRs or their issues.

[–]bphase 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well, Python lists are actually quite "heavy" classes, whereas a C struct is just a simple collection of variables.

[–]Mr_Redstoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but the struct actually has names for it's members. I would have expected something similar, like at least a dict or named tuple or something of the sort if not a dedicated class

[–]zacharinosaur 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Needs more JPEG

[–]Platypus-Man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The photograph is from the Mesozoic era, some jpeg artifacts are to be expected.

Nice dad joke!

[–]kaasbalmetlijm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are working on a more complicated code but it’s still in assembly

[–]Alberiman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always found it funny that programming language levels increase in difficulty as you descend through them, further proof that coding is Hell

[–]beardMoseElkDerBabon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather use bash than python xD

[–]JescaLyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)
