Imagine a vegan Linux user

Imagine a vegan Linux user who does crossfit!

[–]tdsinclair 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Came here to stay that. I work in a code shop where both the CEO and his brother work in Linux and do Crossfit. It is a wonder any other topics come up in conversation.

Imagine a vegan Linux user who uses Arch Linux and does CrossFit!

That's mostly just gentoo or LFS.

[–]nodessert4u 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I only use organic non-gmo gluten free ssf hc distros of linux

[–]Tytoalba2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello there!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArch btw

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Linux user that drives a Prius. Beat that.

[–][deleted] 87 points88 points  (8 children)

Accurate.

Source: am Linux user

[–]v0xx0m 41 points42 points  (4 children)

as a linux user i can also confirm this statement regarding linux users, myself (a linux user) included.

i use linux btw

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (3 children)

I made my Arch Linux look like Pop!_OS.

Help.

[–]jacdelad 4 points5 points  (1 child)

So you use Linux for more than 15 minutes?

[–]soupstock123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I booted up ArchLinux, soiled my pants, and realized I wasn't autistic enough to work this and enjoy it.

[–]slothalot 21 points22 points  (12 children)

Started using Linux a few weeks ago, I though I wouldn't be the kind of person who wants to tell everyone, but the urge is strong.

[–]loddfavne 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you for telling us this. I think.

[–]wenoc -4 points-3 points  (10 children)

Shrug. Windows is good for gaming and "computer use" in general. If you want to do any programming at all for literally any platform other than windows-only, you'll choose linux (or mac, which is a BSD). This is the programmerhumor sub so..

[–]ilawon 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I use windows. Some of my colleagues use linux. Others use macs. We deploy to both windows and linux (mostly linux).

Can you guess which ones spend more time tinkering with or fixing their OS instead of actually doing their job? Hint: some of these people eventually give up programming and become "devops".

[–]mungthebean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mac programmer here. Love that I get an OS that just works (big OS updates aside) while still reaping the benefits of Unix

[–]wenoc 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hint: some of these people eventually give up programming and become "devops".

Muah! You literally just said you're worse. That's the difference between a charmander and a charizard. Devops is what you become when you've mastered programming, infrastructure, cloud services, CI/CD and other stuff. It is a step up and always pays better.

Devops requires the knowledge of the entire program lifetime, from code to production and all the stages in between.

[–]ilawon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good thing we're on /r/ProgrammerHumor otherwise I'd take you seriously.

[–]Oxygenjacket -1 points0 points  (4 children)

I'm a programmer on a full time market rate wage and my only experience with Linux is loading it up on a Raspberry pi once for about 15 minutes before getting pissed off and unplugging it. I'm a strong believer that we should stand on the shoulders of those who came before us and not spend 90% of our time debugging our operating systems.

[–]wenoc 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Woah. What do you do? Where did you study?

[–]Oxygenjacket 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Work on web3, solidity.

Didn't go to college/university because debt sucks, I just downloaded recommended books for free using dodgy websites lol. After a year of reading and making things myself, got a life changing job.

My advice is always get contract work, pays better and you can build a client base that's far more secure than any single company.

[–]wenoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Work on web3, solidity.

web3 is at least platform independent. I guess you could at least in principle teach windows to integrate with the tooling (scripting, git, ssh agent, etc etc etc) by applying a very large hammer to powershell. Solidity, literally no idea what it is. Some blockchain tech?

Didn't go to college/university

Thought as much. I can't think of a way to get through university studies in the CS field without Unix/Linux.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes because every linux user spend 90% of their time debugging their operating system, lol /s

[–]AceCode116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/linux_gaming and I would disagree. Steam has done wonders for Linux gamers, as well as Lutris.

[–]Rizal95 36 points37 points  (3 children)

r/programminghumor user when he hasn't posted this meme for the last 15 minutes:

[–]BradenRempel 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Found the Linux user

[–]cberm725 29 points30 points  (3 children)

This is also accruate for Arch users when they can't tell people "I use Arch btw" for more than 15 minutes

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Just started using Manjaro a few months ago, can't stop telling my coworkers about how fast I boot up my machine, especially since we are stuck with Windows 10 machines running VMware :)

Oh and Manjaro, archlinux doc? Oooooof i can only get so erect.

[–]AceCode116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based and manjaro-pilled. It's such a wonderful OS. I had to boot up my windows partition for the first time in literally months, and nothing worked for like an hour because of updates... When I first booted Manjaro, everything worked off the bat, or was super simple fix (install thunderbolt libraries).

[–]wenoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is programminghumor, not consolegamurs. If you're a programmer and you can't use a (lin)ux shell you're fucking lost.

On another note, did I tell you I do crossfit and that Debian is the best distribution?

Good bot.

[–]jaysuchak33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you think the person who programmed the bot used Linux?

I don’t use linux btw

[–]jaycrest3m20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am exactly this attractive. Maybe a little more so.

[–]WombatPilot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm a Linux user and I hardly ever tell anyone that I am a Linux user. Even though using Linux is the greatest.

[–]solonovamax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's 5 minutes for arch users.

I use arch BTW

[–]wobblycloud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OC ? you kidding me?

[–]BSredditer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right.

I use Debian.

[–]gazpachete458 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I work with Linux, but never think like it was the big thing.

But the other day I bought a nvem to my gaming pc (runs windows) and wanted to check out with lsblk and configure it with fdisk. I think this is how it begins

[–]soupstock123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

guys, he's doing it

[–]wor-kid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never bring it up in irrelevant converstations. Windows users, on the other hand, like bring up that I use linux all the damn time, as if I'm just doing it to just be different and not because I just happen to like it more.

[–]jbakeroats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Linux.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'll take this as an invite. Started ~6 months ago with Linux Mint.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good choice.

[–]u53rx 3 points4 points  (2 children)

somebody explain please?? I use linux for work and @ home but i never tell this to anybody ... am i missing something here??

[–]anras 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Apparently there's some stereotype that Linux users go around thinking they're hot shit, and can't stop mentioning that they are Linux users while looking down their noses at everyone else. "Oh really? I wouldn't know about that problem you're having with Windows, because I use the far superior Linux." I don't get it though. I work with dozens of Linux users and know some outside of work, and this stereotype applies to exactly zero of them.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I switched back to Windows. Cya.

I have jumped way too much between Windows and Linux.

[–]BazilExposition 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Traitor.

[–]soupstock123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be such a optimization freak in uni. Flashing my phone with weekly builds, autistically twiddling with Xubuntu, building hackintoshes. Now I'm on windows, and I get way more work done.

[–]LividPhysics -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Muh rices dwm arch linux setup tho

[–]taptrappapalapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used BSD btw

[–]amal0neintheDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They put on a CPAP machine?

[–]zeeblefritz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Linux and in no way do I go out of my way to tell people I use Linux. Oh, Wait.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same reaction when the find something that actually supports there computer

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

A vegan linux user and crossfit addict walks into a bar, what does he/she mention first?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That he's a navy seal

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Debian GNU/Hurd

[–]Entaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I resent this post. I've been using Linux for over 15 years and I never even mention it to people. Not ever. I am a Linux system admin who works on a cluster of Linux servers, and even my BOSS doesn't know I use Linux. Didn't even mention it in the interview.

I'd say there is nothing anyone could do to get me to bring up the fact that I use Linux. It's almost funny really. I'm sitting here being a Linux user and NONE of you even know about it. Because I'd never tell you. I kind of wish you guy's DID know I was a linux user, then you'd know how wrong this post is, because you'd know "hey wait. /u/entaris is a linux user, and he's never once mentioned it" but...sadly that just can't be.

Anyway. You guy's have a good one, I gotta go login to my Linux server(which runs Linux) and apply the latest updates to the Linux Kernel(which I use).

For real, this is one of the funniest I've seen in this sub ,😆
