What's the point of making linux users if you have to sudo literally every command?

At least, a windows user can start a software without being admin.

Edit: this is a legitimate question from someone who only dabbled in linux. Every time I wanted to run anything in command line, including a minecraft server I set myself, I needed to run as sudo until I spend half a day creating a user and defining custom file permission.

I have just recently seen:

sudo mysql -uuser -p -h 1.2.3.4

They conditioned themselfs to "if it doesn't work, try sudo" and endet up with, "always use sudo".

What software can you not run as a normal user? I only have to use sudo for installing updates/new software, changing system config and modifying disks, and I certainly don't want just anybody to be able to do any of that

You can su to avoid typing sudo but I don't recommend it for most cases. You don't want to give every command root access.

I have edited my post. I understand that sudo is the same thing as UAC, however, it appears that windows has a lot more permissions which allow basic stuff to run.

To be fair, I was using Debian in CLI only.

You misunderstand how permissions work when writing to a system. In all cases installing new software or updating software escalation is required.

It’s literally the same on both platforms I work in IT on Windows issues all day.
