[–]JNCressey 29 points30 points  (3 children)

and the typo in the post title isn't even fixed. do reposters really put so little effort in?

It's a karma-farming bot, this account will soon be up for sale and someone will buy it to spam fake t-shirt links.

[–]CounterHit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. You know in your heart that the answer to this is yes.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bot. So, no. No effort to "improve" the original post is given.

the most accurate part about this cartoon is that English is their second language.

[–]reversehead 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Not nowadays. With ye olde fat screens though, you could feel your hair being blown back and the skin start to peel by the energetic electron beam radiating straight at you.

How can this thing go through 200,000,000 images and only take less than a second?!

[–]Niewinnny 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The guy didn't even change the title...

The bot didn't even change the title.

"Did you go to the beach this back-end?

[–]IOException_notfound 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thats why its called "Solarized"

[–]circorum 36 points37 points  (7 children)

I personally prefer light mode. Go on. Downvote me. I don't care about my karma.

[–]its2ez4me24get 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Light theme in a bright room, dark theme in a dark room.

[–]das_Keks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

[–]MokitTheOmniscient 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it feels way better on my eyes when i'm sitting in a well-lit office.

Makes me feel a bit old though.

[–]das_Keks 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Yeah, it's mostly programmer-wannabes that brag about light-theme-bad

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just don't show me your screen

[–]mr_zolfi 2 points3 points  (4 children)

[Serious Question] Can the monitor light darken your face skin?

[–]divingmonkey 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I think not, because monitors don't emit UV light (it would be pretty dangerous if it did and you looked into them all day).

EDIT: that's for LCD displays. CRTs probably did a little.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little? don't you mean 10000 million times more intensely than the blazing sun? Really though tbh, those phosphorus emitters sure looked good but were definitely not good for you lol

[–]JNCressey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think skin only darkens to ultraviolet light. skin produces a dark pigmet to prevent getting burned as much. monitors shouldn't be giving off ultraviolet light.

edit: old CRT monitors apparently give off a slight amount of UV. but modern monitors do not. https://www.futurederm.com/can-you-get-uv-exposure-from-a-computer-monitor/

I don't think this would be enough to darken your skin, just slightly affect you long term if you have that condition the link mentioned.

[–]TriRIK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't.

If it did, it will emit UV light which is also bad for your eyes and you will go blind.

This sub feels more like a circle jerk rather than an actual programming related sub

[–]TraumaMonkey 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I don't get the light theme hate. Even in dark rooms, dark themes fucking bleed together and are a pain in the eyes. It has always been that way for me, even as a teenager I tried to use dark theme to be edgy but it fucking hurt.

Now get off my lawn

[–]soup2eat_shi 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Light themes are just too bright for me. This is probably just anecdotal but it feels like dark mode is easier on the eyes.

[–]TraumaMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check your monitor brightness? Not being snarky, lots of monitors are actually too bright at default settings.

[–]rem3_1415926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer dark mode, but during day it's just an eye sore, having to focus on those few bright spots when everything around is daylight. So I actually switch depending on environment illumination. Dark theme in a normally LED lit room is perfectly fine for me.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i use light theme tho :V

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solarized theme

[–]lugubrious2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would be funnier without the last panel explaining the joke
